Rumours are suggesting the same names but how likely are they to be true. The Newcastle player prices vary from £2m to in Excess of £2m, is it hearsay, or made up over a cuppa.

I've heard it is 1.75m with 250k in add ons based on goals and promotion to PL. It has been suggested medical has been completed this evening and transfer to be announced tomorrow.

Bit more than a rumour we've bid 2million for Murphy and offered him a 2 year contract.
More talks over next 24 hours with a possible medical.

Yep Nep mate although why we are trying to sign a 34 year old striker when we have one 10 years younger and better in Vellios I'll never know.
Waste of money.

Watching tonight's game and Cummings, Vellios and Brereton all looked good. not sure we need another striker.

We 100% need a new striker. Not saying Murphy is the answer but been at a big club like Newcastle and experience we only help the team and players.

Ben Brereton and Cummings aren't traditional number 9s.
Vellios is and I do rate him really highly actually but he's vastly less experienced than Murphy and in side that many are saying lacks experience and leadership - he gives both of those.

Murphy might not be of the same calibre as Britt but he's a solid 13 goal a season striker who is stronger in the air than all current options, holds the ball up better than other options and to repeat my earlier point, has great experience at this level than all our striking options combined.

It's a no brainer for me.

£2m is way too much for a 34 year old who didn't really do much last year in the best team in the league. He's decent and I'd be happy with him on a free or a small transfer fee (£300k or so) but that's way too much on a player who isn't going to get us challenging for top 6. If we're spending £2m I'd rather it be on a 20 year old conference striker who's hungry.

Agree Guv. Wouldn't be disappointed if we signed Murphy but for 2 million I'd want someone who's going to be playing a bit longer! His experience would be vital tho but no more than 500k.
