Could be something moving on the Charlie Austin front. I can't put odds up here but we have suddenly moved to odds on for him.

I imagine burnley are more willing to offload him after the hull fiasco. think they may have learnt something about the player they didn't know before. in which case his going price will have come down and forest might have taken a punt. so i'd say yeah there might be something in it

We don't need a 20 goal striker, only 33% of teams in last 11 years have had one who have got promoted. We got to share the goals around the team. {Ed034's Note - haha how much spare time do you have on your hands??? :-)

Odds are generated by the money that's put on so some big bets on him coming not necessarily from someone ITK but to get to odds on there may be something in it. I said from the beggining no chance but bookies aren't stupid. As for the Forest haven't got money to chuck about comment get back to your own site probably nothing being wrote on it LOL.

To the person saying we don't need a 20 goal striker we do. Our goal difference was very poor last season and we simply didn't score enough goals in some easy games which some ended up biting us in the ass.

20 goal striker wording has been done to death, it's a boring expression now, but still let's face it, if Sharp had got 20 goals rather than 11, we would have been in the playoffs most likely because we would have probably got another point or 3 here and there. Anyway, that's completely irrelevant now lol. What we need is a reasonably prolific goalscorer however many goals that may be.

I saw the statistic, I am a student, a lot of time on my hands! most teams who go up have a player who gets double figures but under 20 goals. We need to get a decent striker, who can get double figures, then find other players who can bag! For example, be more deadly at set pieces, as well as up top

Mcgugans goals have gone
Sharps goals have gone
Dexter/hendo will get 10 between them
Cox might get 10 great player though 100% effort all the time. So that's 20 between our strikers. With no mcgugan to rescue us it falls on Lansbury to add an extra 10/15 goals which I can't see happening although he is a great talent and a much better all round player than Lewis.
Defence looks good enough to me, can't see why we need another cb halford, Collins, Hobbs, lascelles.
A top quality striker is the most important piece of most successful teams. Real Madrid without Ronald's goals? Barcelona with out messis goals? Man united last season with out RVP's goals? football is all about the most goals, if you don't have goals then you don't win games, it's as simple as that.

You make a good point about replacing their goals but that is what billy is trying to do and it doesn't have to be a striker alone who can do this. Bing in a forward who can get 15 and say mackie who can get 5-10. Plus cox, Patterson, Lansbury, Reid and guedioura means we have goals in the side. We just need two more players

We do need a dead ball specialist. MCgugan was the closest we had to that but he was hardly PVH or Pearce level when it came to free kicks that you just knew we're going to go in as soon as they lined it up. A defender who can bag a good few helps as well. Been a while since we had one or those. Chambers did well if I recall in front of goal the first Champipnshop playoffs we got to under Billy. Chipping in from all over is the right way, we potentially have a devastating threat in midfield, but elsewhere is lacking. Cox, Hendo and Dex have the potential for double figures but it's not a sure thing based on recent history. A sure thing would be nice, whatever that is :) {Ed034's Note - Reid? Guedioura?

I never said we have the goals in the side. As I don't think we have, well they didn't come enough last season, but the myth of relying on one player to bag 20+ is foolish. If a so called individual comes along and gets injured for a long period, we would. Need goals elsewhere, it is a team game after all. So attacking midfielders, a decent striker and someone who can head in set pieces, that's how you win promotion and have stability!

All about the service for me. Not many strikers outside the prem make their own goals at them quantities. Check the service out from the footage on you tube of strikers we have been linked with. We did well last year without any pace in the team or wingers. Although I do agree we need a natural finisher. In the ilk of good old earny

No such thing as 20 goal a season striker, most that have done it, do it for 1 season, n that's it. (in the championship) So ideally you want to buy the player who's going to do it this season (that hasn't done it yet).

Are some people suggesting that we will keep 46 clean sheets and win all of our games by 1 goal? Because with the current crop of attacking options we will never score over 40 goals through out the entire season.

As others have said, a 20+ striker does not always mean promotion (Watford, Huddersfield). What we need is a team where goals can come from a variety of players, therefore the opposition will not know who to mark out in the games. Billy is putting together a team that will work for each other and with options, goals WILL come from a variety of players.

Marty, I ain't suggesting we don't need a goal scorer, as every team does. Aslong as they get near 15 it's enough! Aslong as everyone contributes. It's suicide to focus on an individual, ye we need someone to take chances, but many games we don't create enough. I never said we don't need a goal scorer but we can't be dependent on that one guy

Totally agree with the post about the possibly devastating midfield. I believe we have the best midfield in this league in terms of quality but I just can't see who will replace mcgugans goals. I hope Lansbury can do it but I can't see it happening. adlene gets the odd great goal now and again but will probably only achieve 6/7 at best. I do how ever believe that Paterson will have a good impact and maybe chip in with 10 or so goals. would be nice to have that goal scorer though who stands out and gets opposition worried, takes pressure off the rest of the squad then as well which gives us an added threat from different areas of the pitch

Its the insistence on it being 20 goals that is the problem, not that we don't need a goalscorer.

Forest haven't had a 20 goal striker since David Johnson and we didn't go up that season anyway.

Someone who can score 15 would improve the team, so if someone like that is available and fits the squad then it would be a good move.

This x1000. All the '20 goal a season striker' nonsense absolutely does my head in. I wish more fans understood that a strikers goalscoring record is heavily dependent on things that have nothing to do with his own individual ability.

I'd far rather we threw the kind of money Charlie Austin would demand at a proven, top quality winger. Paterson aside, we still lack pace and width in midfield. Not a lot of point in having a proven goalscorer if you haven't got the players to create chances for him.

In theory, I agree it doesn't matter where the goals come from, but there again we've been promoted to the PL twice, and those seasons featured Stan the Man and PVH.
