McGovern to become a director of football in the summer. When phsyco takes charge on July 1st

As much as I admire and love John McGovern to bits, in my opinion for what it's worth he doesn't have the experience to be a director of football.

Just been announced on radio 5 live, pearce to be announced manager Thursday but will not officially take charge until the summer.

Gary Brazil will remain in temporary charge overseeing last few games.

The fact that he's never done anything remotely like it in the past might make him think his not particularly experienced for that role- its an honest assessment of jm though, he's a lovely guy, a true gent and loves the club to bits but is he a dof?- great footballing career and years in the media/ hospitality industry but saying that nobody really knows what a dof actually does so good luck to him if its true.

This is my point, you said it yourself. who really knows what a dof does, yet you are saying he doesn't have the experience to do it. it's not like he was previously a milkman is it?

I didn't say that he didn't have the experience, that was another poster - you questioned the other poster because he said he didn't think JM had the necessary experience-i'll turn it round a bti on you and ask you 'what makes you think he has got the necessary experience?' and what do you think the role involves?

How do you get experience as Manager or Technical Director of Football unless someone like Fawaz is brave enough to give you the chance.

You work as an assistant or learn your trade in the lower leagues to build up your skills and experience, you can't just be thrown into it by someone being brave? Pearce has done a fantastic apprenticeship but I can see why a few would question jm as dof when there are so many people who are better qualified or with more experience of what i'd think the role involves. I did say its a strange role though and it probably varies hugely between clubs, depending on whether they have a chief exec or not? Is it a link between the players/manager and directors or do they oversee every footballing issue? If its purely a link jm could be a good appointment but i'm not so sure if its to oversee and develop? Nobody could doubt he is a footballing man but he has very limited experience with regards to the operational side of it? Wouldn't frank Clark be better?

Yup I agree 2tone maybe Frank Clarke would be better, and no one knows what level of responsability a dof might have. Did Fawaz not say earlier in the year he was bringing in a C. E. O in july?

Surely the point is Forest will have 2 very experienced professional football men who both love and put Forest first,
wasnt it a very young inexperienced Brian Clough that was given a chance once! that didn't turn out so bad did it?
Lets hope they both grow into their roles and become legends reborn.

I think if we take on a CEO or a DOF we need to move to take someone who has a reputation of positivity with the press/dealings with other clubs and to reign in how keen Fawaz is to announce everything as soon as he gets a confirmation - rather than someone with a history with the club. Ideally both would be ace, but I don't know anyone that fits that bill?

John McG is highly valued but cannot do DoF as he has no current contacts for players in the game.
