I'm very happy to have Psycho as our manager. But he has already revealed a very basic flaw in tactics.

Is it really possible to think that 4-5-1 is appropriate both for an away match against a Premiership team and at home to a team at the wrong end of the Championship?

Why can't we play the same formation whoever we play against?? Are u going to criticise the likes of morinho for playing the same formation against Man City as well as a lower league team in the cup!!
The same formation should be played 99% of the time and breeds familiarity and a style of play and it shouldn't just be chopped and changed whether we are home or away. The test of a manager comes when that regular formation/style needs changing during a game due to one reason or another and I think on a couple of occasions Pearce has done that really well. Most notably the reading game

Don't agree atall tbh. IMO The issue at the minute is that we are missing Reid big time and Antonio, henri and Burke just aren't performing as well as they have been the formation is fine and proven because we have been top scorers in the league. Britt is somewhat isolated ATM.

3.) 02 Oct 2014
I'll keep this simple for you Keeno. Playing the same formation every game makes us very predictable, very easy to analyse and very easy to counter. I don't know if you've noticed but BA has been virtually smothered out of the last 3 games.

4.) 02 Oct 2014
I agree with Keeno. In most jobs, learning your role is about repetition. For Forest, both home and away games need to be treated as the same as if they were playing top or bottom of the league teams.

This will enable the team to learn the formation, learn the style of play and get those instincts as to where players will be or how and when they make their runs.

The team cannot change their style just for lower end teams as this disrupts play on the field players will unsettled and out of position and can end up in negative results.

At best, for lower end teams, the formation and style should remain the same but maybe you rest the odd player and bring in the likes of Grant for a start.

We need to be patient, we must trust in SP because, let's face it, he sees these boys day in, day out and knows what they can do and how they do it. He has faith in this formation, we're joint top of the table so something is working well. Yes it could be better but that could always be said about everything.

It's only just October, there are plenty of games left for things to get better and for the goals to start flowing again.

Mig, At least be witty if your going to try and patronise mate!!
You are now making a different point. You are saying Britt is isolated because of the 4-5-1 and in that respect I don't disagree. If you'd have said our formation is not right i'd have agreed with u. I think we are much better as a 4-4-2 with someone up supporting BA. However your post says we should keep changing formations depending on how strong the side we are playing is or if we are at home. And that's what I completely don't agree with. Whether 4-5-1 or 4-4-2 we should be sticking to it week in week out so everyone knows their role and is comfortable and knows what others will do. When that familiarity develops then you work on adapting the style during games etc when teams are causing issues etc or stopping you playing. Or u make changes.

6.) 02 Oct 2014
There will be one particular formation that best suits the strengths of the players at your disposal. Why would you not set up with this formation at the start of every game?

7.) 02 Oct 2014
Sunday's line up will be intetesting with Fryatt and Reidy (possibly) fit. I think Reidy fits in well with a 4-5-1 but not as well in a 4 man midfield. I know he was paft of a 4 against Blackpool but they were rammel.

8.) 02 Oct 2014
So if you were SP you'd change tactics every couple of games so we don't become predictable and easy to analyse. That's the kind of thinking that has players like Antonio wondering round like a lost sheep as he did for much of the game against Wigan. It seems our strongest formation is 442 and now with fryatt back, I think SP will go with that but it's wrong to critisise SP

9.) 02 Oct 2014
Personally what I think we missing at the moment isn't to do with tactics etc, it's leadership on the pitch. At the mo we have two big players out in Cohen and Reid who are out captain and vice captain. Once Reid is back (hopefully Sunday) we will once again have leadership. COYR

10.) 03 Oct 2014
Where does my post say we should keep changing formation?

11.) 03 Oct 2014
The bit where you say playing the same formation every game makes us predictable and easy to analyse. So i was assuming to counter act that you'd want us to change formation?

12.) 03 Oct 2014
Don't worry gazza. Everyone else interpreted the post in the same way to. You're absolutely spot on in you summary of a consistent formation and I think everyone else on here clearly agrees with you, other than the OP that is.

13.) 04 Oct 2014
Sorry to have to explain logic to you Keeno, but what is important is my intent, not anyone else's interpretation.

So what you're actually saying is we should keep the same formation every game this season.

I've never heard anything so absurd in my life.

14.) 04 Oct 2014
Brilliant mig, u can't actually write what you intended to write, but we are all expected to know your logic!! Good work!!
And yes I do expect us to start with the same formation in the vast majority of games. I'll happily explain the difference between 'every' and 'vast majority' if you want too. The same way way that all the top and consistent teams play with the same formation week in week out

15.) 04 Oct 2014
Jesus Keeno. you really only see what you want to see don't you?

I ask if you really expect us to have the same formation every game and your response is "yes I do expect us to have the same formation for the majority of games".

Do you understand the word "every" or not?

What you're actually say ing then is that you agree with me - the formation cannot be the same for every game.

It was hard work but I knew you'd see sense given a holding hand.

16.) 04 Oct 2014
I suggest you actually read both of our posts back mig and you can apologise to myself and every single person on the thread who disagreed with you on both your comments. We must all be wrong!!
Clearly though you need someone to help though, so perhaps it can wait till latter and you can get that help rather than your bed time book!!

There will be times when sp will need to change formations and players and in deed as done so. If in a game the system he is using is not working then of course he needs to either replace the players who can implement it or change both the system and the players if need be. Teams now are aware of britts threat and he will receive special attention as will antonio. However, professional players should be able to adapt to different formations if asked.
