Evening all, can anyone fully explain the reasoning behind our pursuit of Matt Mills ? I don't quite get this one and feel there are areas in the team where new recruits would add more value.

I still feel this team lacks identity and direction.

Perhaps it's just me and it will come together with a competitive team.

The way we finished the season concerns me greatly and the players we are pursuing suggest we will play a similar style.

Really concerned we won't really compete next season - hope I'm wrong.

You're not wrong we won't have a chance

There seems no logic to Mills signing - unless either Hobbs Wilson Macienne or Lang are moving on. For many years we have not had a left back - do they not exist anymore ? . Cohen of course we all one to be fit but at our most optimistic we need a back up just in case. Teshe I would suggest is our holding mid fielder. Then we need a forward. Black stock and Fryatt can only provide a holding role. Our season collapsed when Britt was injured. I expect the scouts to have already got their eyes on a under 21 Bamford like player to loan or the top scorer in either league 2 or the conference. Without any of these in place whatever DFs skills

Laing will be off.
Mills adds some bite and leadership to the side. I agree he isn't better than what we have at centre half but he has the right qualities in terms of bite and leadership which is what we were abundantly lacking last season.
We had also added another quality champ player in ward and that improves our attacking options (whether u like him as an individual or not).
And it's only may still!!! Chill out and give DF a chance. It's early doors and the season still hasn't finished yet!!!!

Think people are forgetting just how hard it's going to be bringing players in this summer. Getting ward and mills in this early on is very impressive by Dougie. I think we all need to be patient when it comes to future transfers as he has to get the right balance in with the restricted squad and wages he has to work with

See what you guys keep forgetting is that we have no money to sign these guys. You can't expect us to get stellar signings like Britt.

Mills was a good signing gives us another option to cover our injury prone duo of Hobbs and Wilson plus gives us the experience for Liang and will be a good player to stick beside Mancienne.

We DO need a LB, we also need another GK, another cm, another xyz but we can only get players for free and pay a capped wage so there will be some strange signings that may prove shrewd or may not work, the good thing is it doesn't exactly cost us alot, and to be fair the big signings like Assombalonga, Lansbury, Wilson etc haven't worked over the past years but who knows this new challenge and dimension that we have to work within could be good for us. It's definitely going to humble us a little bit. That's probably a good thing.

Don't go into this season expecting promotion, but don't expect us to get relegated. there's nothing wrong with us finishing midtable and rebuilding. Personally I'm more excited about this up coming season than I was the few seasons prior to the Psycho Hype. We get to see what our academy produces and can't attempt to buy our way out of the league.

THIS will be the season where we see what our players are made of. This will be the season where we as fans should actually become supporters. The club needs to adapt and evolve, so do we. So don't go into this season with any expectations, don't believe the hype, go in with a clear mind and a love of our club. I will be there at our first game. I will be singing, cheering, buying a new shirt and in the crush in the Southbank.

Maybe because Hobbs is never fit, Wilson never bothered,Lascelles & Collins gone and Riera & Laing unproven. Add to that we can't defend corners or crosses and Mills is maybe a decent signing?

One thing that people haven't mentioned about mills is his talking in game. One of the reasons our back four/five have leaked so many goals the past seasons is because a lack of communication and leadership in game. Collins did this for a spell and it made a massive difference when he marshalled what was going on. Darlow was very quite and lascelles and Wilson never talked. Manciene waves his hands about a lot but is far from a vocal leader and we can't relay on Hobbs being on the pitch. Mills is a natural leader who will talk and this is necessary especially if we are going to play youngsters.
