In January our transfer activity will be dictated by players leaving the club more than funds being available. Mark Warburton has always stated that he wants a small tight knit group.

If say, Vellios and Hobbs leave I expect Mark to strengthen our defensive options.

In Walker, Cummings, Brererton, Clough and Ward we have plenty of attacking threat, but we do not have any direct cover for Murphy. We may have to look at the loan market to find the right quality forward cover in this position.
I would also expect that by January Chris Cohen will have a clearer idea about his future. I personally would love to see Chris take on the Jack Lester role. Stay registered as a player if his injuries allow, but keep him at the club on the coaching side.
If it turns out that Chris is not going to be available as a player and with Vaughan always being susceptible to injury, cover in the centre of the park may also be needed.

For me a goalkeeper will also need to be sold before another one comes in. Although the vast improvement shown by Jordan Smith over the course of this season makes this option less of a priority.

Wishey is velios not ideal cover for murphy???
I know its flogging a dead horse and i wish warburton would get velios out of the club. Walker but more brereton are still finding their feet wt this level and cummings is not exactly make himself a force!!!!

MW is obviously a stubborn man but pressure on social media eventually made him change his mind about Eric , his garb on match days ,playing B B on the wing so posters keep banging on about Vellios because if Murph. Gets injured non of the other strikers are anywhere near playing regularly in the championship and it,s questionable if they ever will be ,some times fans do know a little bit about the game.

Carlo Mark Warburton is not stubborn, he is astute. He is certainly not someone who would have been influenced by a few dozen fans on social media sites. Eric Lichaj came back from international duty late, at the beginning of the season and rightly had to fight to get his place back. In my humble opinion he is a better player now.

Rutland Red, in all honesty mate, from what I have seen, no. Vellios, when he has started games has looked okay, but nothing special. I think many have been influenced by the goals he scored in meaningless preseason friendlies. I remember Matt Derbyshire doing the same a few seasons ago, then not being able to hack it in the Championship proper.
I can see Murphy scoring 20 goals this season. Can you honestly say you could see Vellios doing likewise?

If there was one position in the team that didn,t reguire a poor 2m replacement it was right back ,the man was player of the year and deserved it and didn,t deserve the treatment he got and showed this with his goal celebration.
I can see absolutely nothing astute about wasting 2m when others areas did need strengthening

A professional manager would not be influenced by a few posts on social media-rightly or wrongly MW will make his decisions and stick with them for a period of time. I do think Eric should have got back in the team earlier but we don’t see everything that’s going on and to a point I’m glad that MW is prepared to give players a chance rather than chop and change after one or two games. Eric has proved he is a true pro maybe give MW the chance to do the same??

How many times do our supporters do this? Players like Darikwa, who take time to settle, are branded as rubbish. Bizarrely Vellios was also though useless after half a dozen appearances.
One of the reasons Lichaj is a better player, since the arrival of Darikwa, is that he has improved his attacking threat.
To say we did not need fullback cover is also daft. On Sunday we are likely to play our only two fit fullbacks. Darikwa was also part of a very successful Burnley side. He has not played to his best football yet, but I am not ready to write him off as a waste of money just yet.

Wishey your reply makes sense and i can see sgreement here. However when you ssy that eric is better player for being made to compete could the same not apply to velios. Not to give him any chance is contradicory to to most managers who say make imposssible to drop me.

Warburton did not bow to any sort of pressure from fans,he bought Eric back for derby for his experience of derby games, same reason he left Worrall out for that game,Eric took that opportunity and will make that right back position his own,Worrall came back stronger, although disappointed to be left put for that game.
Competition for places keeps everyone on their toes.
Be interesting on Sunday if direkwa and traore are out if he gives cash a start at right back.

Warburton brought Lichaj back into the fold to save his own bacon, I imagine it's difficult situation as a manager who has brought in a lot of new players and to justify their signings to the owners if they fail, most of them have been a success and some of them may need a bit more time to settle, I've not been impressed how some of the squad has been disregarded when they haven't been given a chance.
I'll reserve my judgment until after the January transfers have concluded, I remain optimistic but a bit pessimistic of our chances, but heyho the joys of being a Forest fan,

Most of our players have been slated by fans and then after hitting some form are hailed as superstars,it’s the nature of the game for some fans. The same fans who think a little car park demo was the reason why the club was sold, the same fans who slate the manager one minute and then think we should be in the premiership the next 😡

Carlo

I am not being deliberately awkward, but in the summer we had Fox and Traore and then Lichaj as cover for left back. We had Lichaj at right back with no cover at all.
I think Mancienne is a brilliant player, but playing him at fullback gives you no attacking options at all.
Without a doubt we needed cover at right back. I think Darikwa also gives you an option to play him on the right in front of a back three, or as a traditional right sided midfielder.
Without doubt Lichaj is first choice right back at the moment, but if he gets injured having Darikwa to come in is a fantastic option.
All of our defenders have made mistakes this season. Give Darikwa a chance, stop judging players so quickly and labelling them as rubbish, is all I am saying.

I would never call any player rubbish and iwill always give any player a chance but when Darikwa was keeping Lichaj out it to me was a mistake and results since Eric returned have endorsed this but I really think Darikwa was being played because the fee that had been payed for him and up to now he just dosen,t look worth the fee.
With Fox and Tarore fitness history left back was and still is our main defence problem and was the more important weakness and should have been a priority last summer.
Do you think our debate yesterday on here inspired this mornings main article in today's NP ?

I guess where I’m coming from is that at the game against Norwich it did not sound like some of our supporters wanted Dariwa on the pitch. That attitude is not going to help the player settle in. He has made mistakes, I don’t doubt that, but too many times our crowd are too quick to judge.
