Just wondering why the term trialist is used rather than actually naming the player? Dare I ask for sensible answers only? 😬.

Probably as the said club do not want any other team to know who the player is, then the other team offers a better deal once he proves his worth, if he proves his worth.

So if the other team is interested what is to stop them from going to "trialist" and saying "ere mate, what's your name?" ?

I could be wrong, but I believe it’s just down to a case that the player isn’t registered to the club, so from a records point of view, he’s not chalking up an appearance for the team. There may also be some sort of liability involved of naming him as part of the team if he then gets hurt, whereas if he’s a trialist, the club is not technically his employer.

Not 100% on that, but I believe it’s all down to stats and liability.
