Squad numbers are out. Soudani is Number 2,and Smith Number 12.

Why give squad numbers to players they want to get rid of.

Why does it matter what number is on their backs,John Terry was captain and first choice centre half for Chelsea but never wore no 5

Do you know why Terry wore 26?

It was because he had told Zola he would go one better than him. Zola was 25 so when Terry made the first team he took 26.

Cheers edd, just proves that numbers don't matter as to where you fit into the team plans.

{Ed001's Note - not any more it doesn't, they used to mean something in the 50s though. I think a few of the posters on here are old enough to remember those days....}

It meant something until the nineties to be honest, I'm 61 and sixties seventies eighties, the best players wore on to eleven,but then we didn't have seven subs

I became a fan of football in the mid seventies and shirt numbers certainly meant something back then.I think that the advent of bigger playing squads and being allowed more than one substitute per match were pivotal moments along the route to where we are now.
