As a club and as supporters, we're under this preconceived nonsense that our academy is one of the best and nurtures talent that can take the club forward. What world beaters are we basing this opinion on? Andy Reid? Michael Dawson? Bamford? Or maybe the current crop, Brereton. We need to get with the times, unfortunately success in football nowadays is bought with hard cash.

Mighty reds tell that to Mbappe, Sessegnon, Shearer, Owen, how many of our youth have gone to dizzy heights since leaving, no don't get rid of it but we need to realise maybe the players aren't of the quality there hyped to be, look at bamford was going to be the next big thing good championship player and nothing more, darlow never cut it in the prem, not bad players but average championship ones all day long

We produce good talent in our academy but to develop properly they need to go to clubs that have better players to be around.over the last 10 years we havnt had the best of players for these youngsters to look up to and develop.getting our club back on track off the field and bringing better ability players in will bring theses youngsters on.we won’t see the best for a few years but we will get there.

Statetheobvious - and where is Burke now? Back in the Championship where he started struggling to get game time. Spot on Redjames, the talent coming out of our academy is mediocre at best, so when we get offered 6m for Brereton we need to understand that up to this point, he's offered very little to suggest he's not just another mediocre product of our academy that's destined to play no higher than the championship. So 6m is a very good offer. Blackburn fans hadn't even heard of him when the offer went in.

You only buy your way to success with the right manager,we should know that with Platt.
We've spent heavily now,so it's all down to the manager,it's that simple.
Cash has soon forced his way back in the side and Osborn keeps out all comers, can't remember where they came from? Oh yes the academy.

The academy is a great plus for us wether it's to keep good young players or sell them on it's good business for us if we were to reinvest the 6 million were on about getting for Brereton in a bloody good left back then it makes sense to sell if it's just going to be money going back in the bank then keep him

Jenas Dawson Reid lascelles darlow burke bamford to name a few and going further back hodge des walker peter davenport John Robertson tony woodcock viv Anderson Ian Moore etc etc think our youth system and modern day academy has paid its way over the years.although I agree with the op to a certain extent, some seem to think it’s going to produce 5 or 6 gems a year which of course it isn’t

Stevie I see your point but darlow Burke and bamford went to the big time and failed so in the last what 5 years? we have produced 1 prem player in what has been a struggling Newcastle side

The thing is the academy is there to produce young players to benefit the club whether that’s by playing in the 1st team or being sold on to generate funds, what happens to them when they leave is surely irrelevant mate

Not really when people say we should of hung on to those players what I mean is they never turned out to be quite what they were toted to be that's what I meant by what happened to them after they left but yes your right about funds ect

If the Blackburn fans hadn,t heard about Bererton God knows how, many Forest fans had heard of our latest imports ,no centre back will relish playing against Berertons all action style and the lad who is 19 will improve with good coaching and the correct management ,let's hope it at the CG.
