For me, it's a question of when, not if, DF departs. My thoughts are already turning to who is available to replace him. My first choice is Nigel Pearson, second Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. Thoughts?

Why JFH as second choice?

He inherited a team virtually unchanged from Gary Rowell who has got a team with no money and some wheeling and dealing into the play off places in the Championship?

Pearson is head and shoulders above at least 19 out of the last 20 managers we have had since OBE!

Rumours that Britt has dislocated a knee! Ouch.

Bury Red

1.) Saw it right in front of me in the Trent End, his standing leg just gave way, not nice to see. Had to have gas and air on the stretcher. Hope he recovers well, been great for the reds.

2.) 11 Feb 2015 23:12:46
Britt's injury is a blow and I suppose DF will put Fryatt or Blackstock in there on Saturday, but it would be a nice touch to have Tyler Walker on the bench.

3.) Fed up with all the good luck we have regards to injuries. a dislocated knee cap (apparently) takes 6-8 weeks to fully recover. modern day footballer should be back 4-6 weeks depending how bad.
Fingers crossed anyway, he looked like being our 20 goal striker

One thing we can agree on is Pearce has attracted good young talent to our club and developed youngsters from the academy. If we don't think he's the right man for the managers job, I still think he has a role to play eg Director of Football. Cheaper than kicking him out and employing a whole new back room staff. Give a young ambitious manager a chance with Pearce having a player recruitment role and passing on the benefit of his coaching experience with England and the Premier League.

Bury Red

1.) Didn't we all think Sp was the young manager we all needed.
you can't have both. it has to be older with experience or young with little experience

2.) I think we all greeted SP appointment with a degree of scepticism based on his indifferent managerial history. Like most tho, you look past that because his passion for the club & apparent iron will to succeed would inevitably be instilled into the players, giving the impetus we needed to get over the line. In some ways you can forgive the tactical inconsistencies, although not to this extent, we half expected it. However the fact the players don't seem prepared to run for him either suggests the appointment hasn't & more importantly isn't going to work.

3.) Reflecting on SP's qualities and his future. He cannot be regarded as a young up and coming manager having turned 50. Yet he has a wealth of experience in working with up and coming talent and extensive contacts around the world given his England role.
He has not been successful or experienced in day to day league management. By his own admission he is not a great coach.
Therefore time for him to reflect on his role for the future?
For me he should remain the public figurehead of the club and become DofF and Player Recruitment with Brazil in the Academy and a Eddie Howe/ Karl Robinson type of appointment as First team coach.
The level of expectation at Forest puts great pressure on the first team manager/coach position and this is part of our problem on the pitch.
SP is the man to manage the expectation but perhaps not the right man to manage on the pitch?
Discuss?

4.) Redinexile: Although it represents quite a U turn, I agree with your post. Although SP is all or nothing & I think he would prefer to walk away. The brief going forward should be young & hungry with no historical attachment to the club, SPs current reign suggests sentiment can get in the way of common sense. Eddie Howe will be on the radar of bigger clubs, I would look at Karl Robinson or Mark Cooper.

5.) Coopers a good shout Cjay-enthusiastic, a good background and worked hard to get where he is. Is fawaz still looking too hard for media attention and to keep the fans happy with higher profile names though?? its not easy for fawaz as he is still looking for high profile or big money sponsorship/backing and in some eyes a manager such as Cooper would not excite the masses.

6.) I am definitely on board with the idea of making Pearce DOF if he would be willing to do that. He has done a fantastic job since he arrived in every aspect except the most important one - producing performances on the pitch. He should carry on this excellent work and leave the coaching to someone else. Both Karl Robnson and Mark Cooper are good shouts. How about Sean Derry?
Unfortunately, I don't think Pearce would be willing to step aside in this manner though.

Lars Veldwijk reminds me of Andrea Silenzi only without the goals. I think he needs a loan spell to help build confidence - Hucknall Town maybe?

Bury Red

1.) Indeed there are uncanny similarities. Both well over 6 foot, both scored goals for their previous clubs, both came with high expectations, both turned out to be garbage.

2.) He could come to my lads team and help put the nets up and pick up the dog muck if he wants?

3.) Why? Is your lad fed up with doing it??

4.) Honestly, guys, is there any need for this childish stuff? " Garbage" ? " pick up the dog muck"? Lars is young, he's come from another country, we have always been told he's one for the future. I'm sure if anyone said this sort of stuff about your son, you'd be up in arms.

5.) According to his agent teams in Greece and Denmark want him. I would absolutely snap their hands off.

6.) For Lars' size he does not seem to be punching his weight. He does not seem to want to put himself about.

7.) Same old stuff a strikers rubbish blah blah blah. Goals come with game time. Goals bring confidence, confidence brings goals. Lars has bait had the chance to show what he can do. When he is on he draws defenders to him and crates space for others. He needs more game time, possibly on loan, but if we sustain an injury and he comes in I think the goals will come.

8.) Lars has not been given a chance. If he had a run in the team maybe just maybe we might see a better player

9.) Make me laugh seeing people saying lars is rubbish, I can only remember him starting 2 matches and they were months apart and pearce's tactical substitutions with 2 mins to go in a game don't count as giving him a chance. I know people are frustrated but you are taking it out on the wrong person

10.) Obviously he is not to blame for our current plight but neither is he the answer. You say you remember him starting games but you obviously didn't see those games or you would be of a different opinion.

11.) I remember time after time watching Jason Lee coming on as a late substitute and making an absolute nuisance of himself. All running, 100% effort and giving his all. I watched Lars at Huddersfield and Rochdale and don't think he won a header in either match (and given he's 7 foot tall, this is criminal). He's slow off the mark and a yard behind the pace. I'm willing him to give his all and get stuck in but he just seems to amble about. It's like playing with 10 men when he's in the side.

12.) There's a very good reason why this big lump has only started 2 games months apart !

13.) Have we found a common ground Wilderbeast? ;-)

14.) Just for the record, it was a joke about putting the nets up, far too serious on this forum.

15.) I think so Fred but I'm sure we won't make a habit of it !

16.) How can you expect a player to come straight into a team and score goals, give lars a real run in the team and then criticize him. same goes with ince, he had been sitting on the bench at his parent club for god knows how long so was abit rusty, he plays one game for us and because he didn't sort all our problems out, people were slating him lol you guys make me laugh

Sad to see him go but assume we have a plan B. Interested to see who will come in to replace.

Worked miracles off the pitch and been a disaster on it. I've been really impressed with what he's done behind the scenes but performances from the first team have been woefully short.

I've heard he's a good influence in the dressing room. I wouldn't mind seeing him sign a pay as you play contract. Solid squad player and his experience might just help during a tough run in.

We've bought in some high quality replacement talent and more to come. The club is losing £10m a year. FFP is a reality and the Chairman isn't a bottomless pit. I for one am still hugely optimistic for the coming season.

How can Bolton owe their owner £172m and not be embargoed where we owe a fraction of that to Fawaz and are hamstrung? Even the sheep are losing £7m a year and no one bats an eye lid! The rules are rubbish.

I'd rather have Britt up front (with his leg brace and crutches) compared to Lars. He's miles off Championship level yet.
