Hi Ed002,

Just wondered if you have had chance to get the detail re our potential transfer business and summer plans. We seem to be linked with every man and his dog, usually the dog. Would be great to get some clarity about what to expect!

Thank you in advance,

GR.

{Ed002's Note - I will chase him up - could you nudge me again next week.}

Utterly bored so thought I'd try and generate a bit of a debate on here. Assuming that we don't go down, what do you thin the squad looks like next year and who would you look to bring in? Would you keep the manager or is it the right time for a more forward thinking change?

Personally, I would thank Hughton for his services and look to secure a younger manager. He has brought some consistency but I can't say I enjoy watching us play, which really is the reason we spend money to go to football matches.

Eddie Howe would be my first pick, followed by Lee Johnson (ship has sailed) and then Frank Lampard. I don't particularly think any of them are likely, but this is what I would like, not what I think will happen.

In terms of the squad, I've posted enough on here about who I would keep and who I would let go. The overall message is I'd like to see a more youthful squad which includes the likes of Gabriel, Fornah, Johnson and Mighten. I

Defence: Samba remains a safe pair of hands, albeit has lapses in concentration. Worrall and McKenna could be a good pairing and Gabriel or Richardson have both done well on loan and deserve their chance at full back. Ribeiro is as good as any at this level but Bong, Blackett etc. have never been and will never be good players.

Midfield: I'd like to see Garner stay for a full season and wouldn't be against Krovinovic staying as I think those two could make an effective pairing with Johnson ahead of them. I'd be starting Mighten as much as possible and I would be in two minds regarding Knockaert, there's no doubt there's a player there but does his output justify the expense? Possibly not. Instead I'd look to Siriki Dembele or perhaps Ronan Curtis who are both energetic, skilful and full of energy and attacking threat.

Upfront: Grabban and Murray have had their day, Taylor can improve and I wouldn't mind him having another season. Jephcott seems a popular choice with the NEP but Charlie Wyke, Malik Wilks or Britt Assombalonga would be my targets depending on budget restraints.

In summary - there's more outgoings than incomings and plenty of promotions of young players to take starting XI position and filling out the squad when the deadwood has left. I think 4 or so first team starters would set us up nicely, either on loan or permanently: Garner, Krovinovic, Dembele/ Curtis and Wyke/ Wilks/ Assombalonga.

Would love to hear your thoughts guys!

Only one thought and that's to keep the same manager something we haven't done for over 10 years which as shown keep changing a manager every season doesn't work fact.

2.) 11 Mar 2021 13:46:29
looking at the finances that's been posted not sure what money will be about. think we will have to sell before any one comees in. on th plus side were not on our own. forest shoould forget signing yesterdays has beens and money grabbing imports, and look for home grow youth in the lower tiers. I've watched salford city and marine a couple of years back and the football was very good. its going to take two or even three seasons to get over c.v., fans will still stay away.

3.) 11 Mar 2021 15:25:46
Better get rid of hughton then cus his first twohas beens he will sign is murray and knockheart on 30k a week each 😁😁.

Grantham red i like your post but i fid post the other day about our lack of goals and as much as gardener and krovinivc are good footballers, to date their is little end product, krovinivic can't get the ball past the near post at corners. I do think these players have improved the team but when you put kafu in the mix central midfield has no goals in it. We fail to break down defences and get numbers in the box, its that simple. All we get are speculative efforts from wingers cutting in and trying their luck from 20 yards. Our crosses are still directed at one man in the box.

Afternoon gents,

There's an interesting article on NEP regarding the players who may be available on a free transfer at the end of the season.

There is clearly a lot of work to do on the squad, and sadly I don't think that 'tinkering' will be sufficient to turn this ship around. As we all know, there's a dozen or more players who we need to get off the books and that would still leave us with a large squad. I hope that the outgoings are far reaching, but that the incomings are sensible and relatively low in numbers.

I'll highlight some standout names that may be worth looking at:

Ryan Nyambe, Kieron Freeman, Dan Potts, Joe Rothwell, Alex Mowatt, Juninho Bacuna, Emi Marcondes, Jon Toral, Adam Reach, Kadeem Harris, Sheji Ojo, Ashley Fletcher and Britt Assombalona.

Some good suggestions there. I don't see what the huge hang up is with having Britt back. Anyone would swap jobs for a bigger pay packet. And if course, Fawaz was at the helm at the time, and knowing how he was, who would want to work for him?

2.) 08 Mar 2021 15:53:01
The hang up is the huge wages he will want I guess,

Well reds what can i say. But congratulate you all on some brilliant posts today. ( don't know what you've all been on) but thanks for keep bringing me to this site. And the great work ED does. We all know things aren't going to change overnight. Guess we just got to cling on to this rollercoaster ride and see what happens. We know CH won't change much unfortunately. But football like life in general is hard. The only thing i can say is as long as you have your health. and those around you. (And remember check out prostate if you have the time) take care for now reds stay strong 👌👌.

4.) 08 Mar 2021 16:32:52
Looking at that list I can see why there all free. God help the rest of the list if they stand out.
More deadwood is the last thing we need. We should be looking at our under 23 squad first, players like Johnson setting Lincoln alight. We wouldn't even beat Lincoln if we played them now . We've got a better team out on loan than CH is fielding at the moment . 🎈.

5.) 08 Mar 2021 16:43:41
I,ve followed BA ratings for a long time and if he doesn’t score he usually only gets a 4 or 5 meaning he,s had very little influence on the game , think we need more than that and with the service our forwards get there,d be very little effect on the team ,not for me .
CARLO

6.) 08 Mar 2021 18:30:54
Be twice as good as our strikers then Carlo 🤣🤣🤣.

7.) 08 Mar 2021 19:58:24
We need both the service and the finisher. At least Assombalonga is a good finisher, strong, quick and holds the ball up well.

Stick Johnson in behind, Mighten to one side and another creative winger on the other and we would be a much better side.

Think you used to read Shoot Skeg 😃😃😷

So the geriatric crocks have turned us down, finally some good news! Anyone could see that Gosling and Grosicki wouldn't improve us long term and probably not short term either.

This club really is a mess and we need to drain the swamp.

Got to give the team and the manager there dues.

I was very disappointed when the club sacked O'Neill and even more disappointed when the next manager was appointed after 14 minutes. A few weeks later we are playing some good stuff, picking up results and have a clear first XI. Yes - the squad is too big but Sabri clearly has his core team. I hear that the 'rest' are joe separate from the first team.

Looking forward to tomorrow - I hope he takes it seriously and understands the spring in our steps that it would give.

Agree with most of the departures but wouldn’t let Carvalho go or Worrall. Probably keep Pants too as back up.

I think the area we need to strengthen is an extra striker. Not much else needed.
