Hey sgetty,

No clue what line-up or even formation to look forward to next season until the friendliest tell us a few things, but I would imagine Watson will keep the armband. not that it really matters. Dawson/ Pants will marshall the defence and Watson will be the voice in midfield, so the captaincy doesn't really matter too much once you've got leaders on the pitch.

Interesting to hear AK mention Lam as one of the youth group today. I still think he could develop well, with a bit of luck. It could be a case ignored involving him until Tobias/ Worrall are fit again, but I think Lam is a decent squad player now that, as I said, there's a bit more leadership around the starting line-up to keep the inexperienced players on track in games.

I'm genuinely excited to see this team develop. I'm not expecting isn't to be perfect, but I don't think it's unfair to expect a marked improvement on the football that was played at times last season, and also to expect we'll win more than we'll lose.

Pants - Smith (GK sorted)

Soudani - Brereton - Murphy - Grabban apparently (FWD sorted)

Dawson - Tobias - Fox - Worrall - Lam as backup (CB sorted)

Darikwa - Gabriel as backup - maybe Cash as WB - possibly another signing (RB almost sorted)

Robinson - Ahmedhodzic as backup - maybe Osborn as WB - possibly another signing (LB almost sorted)

Watson - Guedioura - Cash - Osborn - Edser as backup - probably another signing (CM sorted)

Goncalves - Carvalho - Dias - Lolley - Cash - Osborn - Clough - Appiah as backup (AM sorted)

Once (hopefully) Grabban is in, or even if it's not him and the search continues, I'd happily start the season with what we've got provided no one comes and steals any of our active players. Would really like to see some of the dead wood find new homes, just to trim the squad down but that's a problem brought about by good signings and it'll sort itself out in time.

Can't wait to see the new look squad in action, but even the grumpiest Forest fan, of which there are numerous, would have to work hard to find faults with how the pre-season set up is going. So smile, and wait for disaster to actually happen before getting on anyone's back. Dare I say it, this season might almost be enjoyable.

COYR.

With Bridcutt were probably sorted in the middle.

2.) 05 Jul 2018 16:40:33
I still reckon we might sell Osborn, Worrall or Brereton . If we are signing a couple more , E.G Grabban and another Osborn or Brereton or Worrall and clough (I hope) may well be funding it. I don’t mind if two of those four are sacrificed for good signings, they need to be good signings not dross, otherwise don’t sell.

Getting shut of Lam , vellios, Grant, McKay Cummings ward, mancienne, Traore and bouchalakis may well fund another ad well. The world and his dog know we want to get rid so will offer peanuts and sit tight as we need to move these players on quickly now.

Morning lads,

I'm in Nottingham all this week with a show at the Theatre Royal would be great to put a face to a few names.

Anyway. As I see it (at present) our 1st team squad should be looking a bit like this (awaiting arrivals and departures, of course) :

4-2-3-1 5-4-1

GK Smith

Darikwa Worrall
Dawson Fox
Figuereido Mancienne
Robinson
Osborn
DM Cash
Watson
Bridcutt
Dias Guedioura
Carvalho Lolley
Goncalves Clough

Soudani Brereton

We still need another Striker, and hopefully Pants and Bryam come in as well, but as it stands, that looks a very competitive squad to me.

It's all about moving people on now. I'd probably keep Fuentes to see what he can do - he deserves a shot at least - and as controversial as it sounds, I'd keep Murphy to help with development - he's quality at hold up play, which is something all the attackers need to learn if we only play one up top.

Feeling terrifyingly optimistic for once.

Irish Red

1.) 01 Jul 2018 11:22:18
Irish, is keep Murphy if he wants to stay.

2.) 01 Jul 2018 11:22:18
Irish Red I agree on Fuentes but am in two minds about Murphy. You're not from Waterford are you?

3.) 01 Jul 2018 11:47:28
Squad is looking good. But manchienne clough Murphy and possibly osbourne if a good bid comes in
We need another centre midfielder if owt happens to Watson and bridgcutt we become lightweight.
So players that need adding at
Gk. Pants most likely
Rb byram loan
Cm Clayton 3m
Forward grabbon 5/6m or ings loan with view to 10m permanent.

4.) 01 Jul 2018 12:33:29
Reckon our expendable players will be as the saying goes,"One man's Rubbish is another man's treasure".

Sad to see another manager sacked after such a short time in charge, and as unpopular as it might be on here, I did see some positives in what was going on this season.

Having said that, this was Watburton's own doing. I think the whole "Plan A, Plan B" debate will roll on for a while, but from what I saw this season, he just allowed too much attacking freedom. It seems the front 4 had very little defensive responsibility, regardless of who was playing there. Brereton and Walker aren't even midfielders, so their mindset was always more attacking, but to allow Dowell and McKay to neglect the midfield work meant that we were almost always defending with only 6 players, whereas most teams will try to defend with 9 or 10.

It's only an opinion, but for all the good that has come along (bringing through the youth, signing a couple of good prospects, instilling an attacking, passing game), if you can't shore up a leaky defence, your days are numbered. I think it was clear that a change in formation was needed, not even necessarily the personnel, and yet he didn't budge. You can't blame Marinakis for pulling the trigger.

On that, I don't think it's fair YET to compare Marinakis to Fatwaz. He has quietly installed a bavktoom and let them all do their jobs. He has much more experience in football than the last guy, so I'll trust him on this sacking, but if the next one ends the same way, questions will be asked.

Either way, here's hoping for a speedy appointment. Hopefully it's all lined up already.

If rumours are to be believed, I think I'd cash in on Worrall at £12m, as sad as it would be to move the kid on as he's a true red, but £12m plus what's left from Britt (if anything) in the hands of a new manager could bring in some useful players. Pay off Hobbs, give Cohen a backroom role, maybe move for a defensive leader like Dawson, even at his age, and hope the new man can find a leader for the centre of the park.

Fingers crossed for the coming weeks. Let's TRY to kick the negativity. I know the season has felt flat and depressing, but we really ARE so much better off than last year, upstairs and in the league. I know we could be dragged further into the scrap at the bottom, but we could also win 3 and be in the top 10. It's the Championship; LITERALLY anything can happen every week.

Happy New Year and here's wishing for an upturn.

He’s had nine months and a full pre season and still couldn’t pick a team.we will be ok without him

2.) 31 Dec 2017 15:54:38
What a great post. Fair and well balanced and truly reflective of the sadness we all feel at yet another casualty but cognitive of the reasons why there simply was no option

3.) 31 Dec 2017 16:14:22
Dawson, please no.

4.) 31 Dec 2017 17:17:31
Cheers 2Star,

Grey, I’m not saying good we NEED Dawson, but an old head who cares about the club with bags of experience and still plenty to offer at this level would be a decent fit, no?

Who knows. I hope the new man comes in and has his targets in mind. I’ll trust whoever arrives.

5.) 31 Dec 2017 17:28:09
Dont ever sell Joe. Keep our best young guns and be a force in a season or two with home growns.

6.) 31 Dec 2017 19:29:02
I think Dawson could do a job for us IP for sure

7.) 31 Dec 2017 23:05:30
Great post Irish and a good tactical analysis imo. Have a happy New year eds and all posters!Just think how lucky we are to support a club that's never ever boring and always full of surprises!

23 Aug 2017 22:47:35
How. I mean, seriously HOW are we still listening to "fans" moaning on here?

We have finally put a structure in place at the club, started signing talented players and most importantly, playing good football, but STILL we have 2 Star and Uptheforest and more finding reasons to whinge like we're 10 points adrift at the foot of the table?!?

God help you lads if we have a good season. you'll be absolutely miserable! Yes, we concede goals, but guess what; so is every other team in the division. We only beat Boro because Britt played poorly? Ridiculous comment.

Bore off, lads. Try to just enjoy the sport and stop bringing us all down. We scored 3 tonight and won. but I'm sure all you saw was that we conceded 2 and "played Fox". Get a grip!

FTID. win, lose or draw.

Irish Red

1.) 24 Aug 2017 00:52:11
What's wrong with fox?

2.) 24 Aug 2017 02:34:45
Good lad Irish Red!!

3.) 24 Aug 2017 04:49:05
2 Star,

There's absolutely NOTHING wrong with Fox, and that's my point. Who cares what XI we put out. I'm just happy to support my team.

I'd hate to see Fox leave. He stays fit, hides his time and always puts a shift in. Same as Mills, and almost all of our squad right now.

Stop moaning about the lack of clean sheets. What teams ARE keeping them? Maybe Ipswich. Maybe Cardiff. John Terry has conceded more than Matt Mills - so are we going to say Terry is useless too??

Support your team and stop moaning.

4.) 24 Aug 2017 07:13:33
What gives you the right to judge who is a better supporter than another? So people have a different view to you and you act like judge and jury. Wind your neck in pompous pete and accept social media is a platform of alternative views.

5.) 24 Aug 2017 07:36:07
To be fair irish 2 star does give both views if there playing bad he will say if there playing good he will say so now then uptheforest a different matter only ever see him on here when we lose or he has something to moan about lol but not been on here for a bit so we must be doing well lol were all reds aren't we coyrs onwards and upwards

6.) 24 Aug 2017 07:47:19
Irish Red - conceding no goals in a game is better than conceding 2 or 3 - it gives you a much greater chance of winning games. With that in mind, I'm sure you, like the rest of us want the best defence in place to achieve that. However, as it is, we ARE conceding a lot of goals through sloppy defending and that's simply not sustainable if you want to challenge at the top end of the table. So you have to turn your attention to where the errors occur, and the fans aren't blind - Mills very often finds himself a couple of steps behind the pace of the game and is a clumsy defender, and fox hasn't been up to it for a few seasons now, see how he didn't get close enough to his man in both of newcastles goals last night. So yes, it's great that we've turned a corner and the offensive football were playing is exciting and technically brilliant at times, but wouldn't it be even better if we wasn't conceding as many goals giving ourselves a better chance of a season to remember.

7.) 24 Aug 2017 07:49:47
Be a waste of time if everyone had the same opinion and just put nice things.
No one would have anything to chat about,That's the whole idea of the site.
Some posters think if you put something it's moaning,It's not,It's an opinion and they're entitled to it.

8.) 24 Aug 2017 08:00:44
We are all reds mate, personally loving the games and the atmosphere this season. The defence needs to be tighter though but I think we've got the players. The sway of opinion on here is that we need a GK and. a CB, I just think those we have need to play to their full potential. Do I think MM and JW are our best pairing ? If it were me I'd choose Hobbs first time, in any case I doubt whether JW JH MM and MM is strength in depth matched anywhere else.

9.) 24 Aug 2017 08:47:59
Personally I'm a very happy bunny now that the dreaded FAH is gone, which is what I always wanted, and believed to be the key to us becoming a good/great club again. No-one is ever above criticism, but I'm fully behind the team, the players and all the management we have now and want them to succeed. The atmosphere has changed at the club and it's just what we as fans all wanted. Anyone who does not believe that the players are doing their best and putting a shift in on the pitch I believe is mistaken. This is a banter site not an adoration society, and the banter is what makes me keep coming back to it, long may that reign, whatever people's views are!

10.) 24 Aug 2017 13:05:34
So 2 star, saying we've lost before we even kicked a ball on Sat isn't moaning for moanings sake then:) Just checking.

11.) 24 Aug 2017 14:30:49
If you did 2star say it before every game we might end up winning them all and will you all stop bloody moaning I have enough of that at home with the Mrs you bunch of women

12.) 24 Aug 2017 15:55:09
Ha! Ha! Skeggs!! You tell'em mate!!!

03 Apr 2017 14:30:06
Ariyibi, to me, has all the hallmarks of Garath McCleary. Yes; I`m sure he`s a bit rough round the edges, but he could be just the type of player to throw into the team and let him develop on the pitch. He`s lightning quick, can cross and can shoot. Burke was no more of a finished article, but got goals so everyone was happy.

Thoughts?

Agreed mate, let him of the leash! He's an unknown quantity in this league.

Bridgford,

While I agree to a point with what you say, and we DID look vulnerable at the back, the big difference on last year is we DIDN'T concede 3 or 4.!

I think people need to focus on the positives and let the management team work on the negatives.

Last season, we won by a goal against promotion new-boys but shipped 3 goals. That, in itself is progress, no?

The team will improve. Lichaj is likely to come back in, a keeper seems to be on the shopping list, let's just enjoy the win for what it was; a packed house and a big, pressurised kick-off. The lads got the job done.

We will only get better. At least we're not Boro fans.

Bright,

I just don't see it. Fox was, in my opinion, solid as a rock at CB last season and is a lot less injury prone then others, as well as clearly keen to stay fit and ready to step in.

I wouldn't let him go unless he wanted to go. He's a good influence, a committed performer and has let no one down as far as I can see.

I'd see Mills and Hobbs out before I'd get rid of Fox.

Unless something incredible lines itself up, I don't think we need anything else in this window. On top of the squad I listed earlier, we've got Gabriel, Edser, Ahmedhodzic, Walters, McDonagh, Bossin, and a couple of others who I would happily trust to step in to cover any 2-3 month injury gaps that appeared in the squad. I mean, who was Joe Worrall or Ben Osborn or Lewis McGugan or any of them?

I'd sooner have a young, hungry your teamer step in and try to create a name for himself than sign players just to bulk up the backup who may not care about the club. Players, dare I say it, like Assombalonga. Yes; he was top drawer, but on leaving didn't even say he played for us. he said he "Worked" for Forest. You'd swear he was working in the gift shop! I would take a Tyler Walker or a Gerry McDonagh every day of the week. Win, lose or draw, I just want to love the team, not cheer for the van Hooijdonks and Bohinens who are just in it for themselves.

Just my opinion. I think we're in a really promising position and I trust the club, finally, to take us forward.

Bright,

I'm sure there are better and younger than Fox, but I'm just not a huge fan of kicking 10 players out and expecting the new squad to bed down quickly.

Fox is not solid at LB, but for me is a decent short-term backup as well as added CB cover. He's also a great role model and apparently popular lad with the squad.

So, I would ask why spend more money on another player, likely to be backup, when we have one already?

I see this squad making progress on last year, and then next summer, we can look at moving others on to build again.

I don't think we can expect to address every single area of the team in one summer. Plus, with prices as they are, I'd rather keep the cash in the bank until we NEED a signing.

The way I calculate our current squad, our 22 is:

Smith Henderson

Lichaj Darikwa
Traore Fox
Mancienne Mills
Worrall Hobbs

Cohen Bouchalakis
Vaughan Cash
McKay Carayol
Osborn Clough

Murphy Vellios
Cummings Brereton

That leaves:

Stojkovic (Going)
Evtimov (Loan, sold or 23rd place as 3rd keeper)
Iacovitti (Loan)
Lam (Loan or sold)
Ward (Possibly injured/ in for Carayol/ Cash)
Lica (Going)
Walker (Loan or sold)
Yates (Loan)

If we sign 2 more, it's anybody's guess, but Cash could possibly head out on loan, and Hobbs/ Mills/ Fox could also be in that potential sale pile. Personally, I'd keep Fox as he's a leader in the dressing room and is fully committed.

How can anyone complain about this? We all know what football is like. do you think Ipswich fans were happy to sign "McGoaldrought"?

Just because his strike record isn't good from his time at Brighton doesn't mean he can't come in and do a job. Fingers crossed he fits our system better than he did down south.

As far as I'm concerned, if you're a Forest Fan, BE a Forest Fan. Until the players start bad-mouthing the city or the club, if they wear red and put a shift in, they've got my backing!

I could be wrong, but I believe it’s just down to a case that the player isn’t registered to the club, so from a records point of view, he’s not chalking up an appearance for the team. There may also be some sort of liability involved of naming him as part of the team if he then gets hurt, whereas if he’s a trialist, the club is not technically his employer.

Not 100% on that, but I believe it’s all down to stats and liability.

I think quite a few will step up, but not into the starting XI. It’s a physical league, and you only have to look at Brereton to see how being a beast in the U-23’s doesn’t guarantee you the same freedom in the Championship.

Ahmedhodzic, Edser, Bossin, Gabriel, Gomis & Appiah will all be considered active players this season, but with people ahead of them in the pecking order, so could end up out on loan to gain league experience. I’m sure one or two others too.

Johnson, Mighten, Coveney, Preston will probably need more time as they’re still developing.

I reckon Iacovitti, Grant & Yates will go out on loan. Always liked Iacovitti, but I think he’s about out of chances now - wouldn’t be surprised if he moved on.

Haha sgetty,

I just hope we’re not talking about “going down” at any point.

Loving the look of the squad though. Really decent mix of experience and youth/flair now. Obviously, nothing is predictable in this league, but pending a few departures, this looks the most balanced squad we’ve had for a long time.

I’ll be on BBC radio notts are 4.20 today - let’s see if I can “steer” the conversation towards Forest!!
