I think we always look a lot better with 4 at the back so I (not manager ) would probably choose

Smith

Darikwa Worral Mancienne Traore

Bridcutt Dowell Vaughan

Mckay Murphy Carayol

It took a while for carayol to get going for us, but towards to end of last season he actually started to cause damage with those runs of his, and actually started to find abit of end product, he got a couple of assists pre season and with him and McKay getting to the by line taking on defenders, I think murphy could have a lot to lap up in the centre

That looks a great team on paper JNR

Good call attacking wise, but McKay and carayol won't track back and darikwa bombs forward but not great defensively,I'd put Eric there.
Darikwa reminds me of hilberto, only difference is he controls his temper and can do throw ins.😀😀

Sorry you missed out Osborn,he plays that's the law at forest

I would put Hobbs in for Manc if fit. Also depends on oponent for striker. Start with Murphy and if on top keep him on. If up against it change him for Breretons pace to hit on the break.

5.) 07 Sep 2017 19:00:13
thats the problem he's never fit for more that a few games

To be honest if he gets that middle three communicating with the back four, I would like to think it would leave McKay and carayol to not have to worry to much about tracking back, traore and perhaps darikwa or lichaj could cover our half and not worry to much about leaving it! of course, its something they will have to do occasionally, but when in possession that attacking 4 should surely score against most teams, warburton would never choose it unfortunately but its always nice to dream! personally i'd like to see Cummings get the nod upfront alongside murphy, again something Warburton would never do, always could to have a hungry little snapper running around a big front man up top, sort of like earnshaw and blackstock back in the day! I know I will get stick but Osborne for me only brings his engine to them team, and yes it can be a huge asset against certain skilled teams, I don't think I can take much more watching him sprint forward, do a some fancy turn/skill to only go back on himself! ahaha

IMO a lot of last year's defensive issues were down to poor management. Chop and changing every game and awful tactics. Instead of good old fashioned defending (clearing the ball in danger) montanier insisted we try and play football when in danger to play out from the back and I cannot believe how many times that cost us goals
Everybody is screaming the defence Must be sorted or we are going to be in a relegation battle. Wasn't lichaj, mills and mancienne a regular 3 in our squad during our unpenetrable era under Dougie? If Warburton can get the right balance I don't believe our defence will be a big issue this season. a back 4 should be as consistent as possible to allow them to understand each other. That was never allowed for a large portion of last seaaon.

At county they were still trying to play out from the back and nearly got caught out a few times, if traore wasn't so skilful or lucky? we could have gifted even more good chances to them, I agree a steady back four would probably get a better understanding and may be capable of playing that way but we won't be able to play that way with some of our players i. e. When people are filling in for injuries or suspensions.

2.) 22 Jul 2017 08:05:31
I'm much more comfortable with Worrall and mancienne at the back. Mills needs replacing.

3.) 22 Jul 2017 08:18:10
Isn't that warburtons tactics style? playing football out from the back? all well and good blaming the manager for trying to play out from the back but it's down to the defenders to sort that out on the pitch m, if a ball needs clearing clear it m, it's basic stuff. there's a tile and a place for playing it out and if a defender can't judge that then he shouldn't be playing.
Imo.

I agree JNR NFFC I don't think we need anymore centre backs we just need a settled organised backline worrall Hobbs mills mance fox lam and the young Swedish lad as cover if need be is quite enough if you ask me.

So true UTF.

6.) 22 Jul 2017 09:57:16
The stats say teams with Matt Mills as a regular are relegation fodder!

7.) 22 Jul 2017 10:26:46
Df had all team playin for draws that's why we had spell not conceding many.

8.) 22 Jul 2017 12:00:13
Mills is a league one defender. Not in the same class as Mancienne. Let's hope MW has similar thinking. A consistent pairing of manc and Worrall would be very strong.

I also think our midfield got over ran too much, when Vaughan and Cohen were out or not played so often teams broke fast and there was noond holding them up in midfield, fullbacks would get caught up field and we got over ran cause our midfield was shocking covering back. Once MW (and to some extent GB) took over with Cohen and Vaughan playing and a solid formation that looked trained and more disciplined we didn't concede as many goals.
I wouldn't mind a new centre back and think we need cover at fullback with Hilberto and Pinnilos both going but I think our defence will be vastly improved simply due to better training and management.

I Completely agree, so many teams have the ability to run at our LB & RB and time and time again, once they have got past them they can put a ball into our box, however warburton doesn't seem to appreciate what that could do for us, when I seen carayol on the bench against Sunderland I was excited to see if he could prove me right, but he never got the chance.

I think McKay on one wing and caryol on another will open up teams and allow us to create more chances, we may of won on Tuesday, we was still clueless going forward though, had to be one of the most boring games of football I have ever watched, Sunderland was very average and we should of got more than 1 shot on target!
