I really hope MW now acknowledges what a very good player Vellios is for Forest. He was shut out last season when he deserved a chance but he showed a good attitude and with five goals already looks excellent. Worries me little when MW is asked about his contribution he tends to then speak about the team rather than the individual. Good player who could come good given the opportunity and save Forest a fortune. COYR.

1.) 29 Jul 2017 22:59:05
While I totally agree with you, think MW sees him as third or fourth choice striker.

2.) 29 Jul 2017 23:07:55
Thoroughly agree Retford I'm a big fan of Vellious, great attitude, strong, skilful, works hard for the team, good finisher and on fire atm with direct competition from the likes of Murphy and Brereton! I hope Warbo realises what a gem he has on his playing staff!

3.) 30 Jul 2017 01:01:52
i really hope vellios gets played aswel but as he brought cummings in himself i have an awful feeling vellios will be behind him unless he gets himself into a position where he can't be left out.

4.) 30 Jul 2017 07:33:54
Surely from preseason Vellios is in a position that he cannot be left out of the starting 11.

5.) 30 Jul 2017 07:54:08
Cummings looks like a busy and hard working player. We will need to wait and see for the rest won't we. I'm not seeing a better striker than vellios though are you?

6.) 30 Jul 2017 08:00:02
Murphy will start and Vellios will be in the bench along with Cummings. In Vellios and Cummings, MW has two very different options to come on and change a game if needed. My concern is that he hasn't got that same flexibility in midfield. We need to bring in 1 or 2 before Friday.

7.) 30 Jul 2017 10:38:19
Does anyone else think that MW may be doing it to wind him up a bit and make him goal hungry? I remember we did it with Kris Commons a few years ago, was playing well then suddenly got dropped, it wound him up and when he came back in to the team he was on fire.

8.) 30 Jul 2017 10:47:24
I think Vellios will start. I'm not sure that MW will be giving away his starting lineups prior to the start of the season. I can see the two Scottish lads playing either side of him up top vs Millwall.

17 May 2017 18:13:10
Trying very hard not to be critical at the start of a new exciting era for our club I along with thousands of others have dreamed of for what seems forever. But need to get the Danni Pinillos release off my chest regardless.

Why we are letting arguably the best full back at the club leave, when he is still young, talented, and for nothing is beyond me. If Breadman had seen him prior to his injury Ithink he would have found it impossible to let him, he was that good. He as not yet got back to that level, true, but he was getting there.

I want to back MW as much as possible but in this case I think he got it wrong, big style. Gripe over. Just remains to wish Danni serious good luck and thanks, especially for THAT goal. Our loss will be someone elses gain unfortunately. COYR.

1.) 17 May 2017 19:05:37
Having seen traore on various occasions this season, he has been quality so I beleive he would be first choice over pinillos in mark warburtons eyes.

2.) 17 May 2017 19:15:15
Ben chillwell at Leicester quality young attacking left back available on a free transfer be a good signing in my opinion to replace Dani pinillos.

{Ed001's Note - he signed a new contract last summer after Liverpool had a bid for him rejected. He is not out of contract, nor would he be available on a 'free' transfer anyway.}

3.) 17 May 2017 19:33:34
Can we talk about something else other than pinilos?
He was no Stuart Pearce and never would be, just an average left back whose came here on a trial played 30 odd games.
He was out of contract and we don't know his demands, he's part of the squad that nearly got us relegated and along with Vaughan and grant let em go and try getting a few others out as well if we can
This squad needs a clear out otherwise we'll face another relegation scrap.
One goal against the sheep doesn't make him a legend.
So out with the old in with the new, can't keep em all.

4.) 17 May 2017 19:54:05

Perhaps if Pinillos gets signed up to key sports management Warburton would beg for him to sign a new contract.

We will never know how well he could have played for us.

5.) 17 May 2017 20:05:05
That's another subject tomorrow and one I'm worried about, don't want our club being dragged into more havoc.

6.) 17 May 2017 20:15:49

You are right, it is about time we had some stability.

7.) 17 May 2017 20:16:26
Out of the 3 out of contract I would like to see grant sign a deal as he impressed at county and didn't look bad when he played a few games earlier in the season for us.

8.) 17 May 2017 20:18:02
I'm afraid he is out of contract he's my daughters boyfriend best mate.

{Ed001's Note - clearly not as the FA have him as contracted to Leicester until 2020 and you would know that he could only be available on a free if over 23 anyway.}

9.) 17 May 2017 20:52:26
Time to shoot the messenger. 😆😆.

10.) 17 May 2017 22:04:49
I must say i was surprised he was released but if mw rated him he would of been given a longer contract if that was the issue. maybe traore and osborn are enough for the shape plays.

11.) 18 May 2017 06:42:56
Jrs you have been told porkies. all you have to do is type in Ben chilwell contract into a search engine and you will see he signed a new 5year deal in July last year.

{Ed001's Note - if he was out of contract he would not be joining Forest anyway, as he would still command a large fee through a tribunal. Also there would be a number of Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, who would jump at the chance to take him.}

29 Apr 2017 19:54:17
Not an excuse as the table does not lie, but how did we have to face Huddersfield best side and Rednapp gets an entire reserve side to face at Brum. Stinks, as they were our best chance of survival. can't remember a worst Forest away side and that is the main problem. Praying we can do enough at home v Ipswich to stay up. don't want to even think of the alternative.

Retford Red

1.) 29 Apr 2017 23:27:54
Forget Huddersfield they have earned the right to put out a weakened side it's the forest staff and players who are to blame end of place needs a good clear out behind the scenes and with players

But with the Greek now takeing charge I think it will be Moore journey men from Europe on silly money.

2.) 29 Apr 2017 23:35:09
IT doesn't matter what team anyone else puts out . it was in our hands and we blew it yet again. Please don't make excuses for this poor forest team/ squad.

3.) 30 Apr 2017 07:54:18
We have had 45 games to do something about it, Huddersfield earned the right to field a weakened squad, Forest would have done the same. We are in this position because some players don't care and are spineless and have no balls, some backroom staff couldn't run a bath tub and the owner is, well i can't say on here., The club Nffc, a few players and the fans don't deserve to be relegated but everyone and everything else about the club does. Just need to fill the city ground on Sunday and do what we can as fans to cheer Nffc to victory.

4.) 30 Apr 2017 10:30:31
Earned a right to break the rules? how does that one work then? the efl have a rule which stops them putting a weakened team out in a competitive game. rules are rules aren't they?

5.) 30 Apr 2017 11:45:33
A rule is pointless when it can't be enforced. It's no different to changing tactics or a teams formation - or probably a better example would be putting a few subs on when you're 3-0 with 15 mins left. It's not disrespectful it's just common sense and game play
Goal difference could keep a club up and put another one down-so the same can be said for a team who sit back on a 3-0 lead rather than go for a 4 or 5 nil victory. Better rules could be implemented to improve the game as a whole rather than saying what tactics a club can choose. Every decision in a game and on the training pitch influences the season - hundreds of factors over the season determine who wins and who loses, do we discuss everyone of these or are we that desperate that we need to pick up on just one of the recent ones? Dodgy penalties, offsides, bookings, sending offs, suspensions, interfering with play, good luck, bad luck, tactics, hard work etc. The list could go on but the reality is, that this is football and some things go your way and others don't-surely that's one of the reasons why we all follow the game? To experience the highs and lows and to discuss what's gone our way and what has gone against us.

6.) 30 Apr 2017 12:58:55
All sounds a bit like sour grapes to me we are in the position we are in because of our inconsistent form especially away from home 3 managers in a season is never a help to be honest but with a game to go its still in our hands against an Ipswich side with nothing to play for so let's fill the city ground Saturday and back the team leave the negativity at home and rebuild for next season.

7.) 30 Apr 2017 14:06:10
There's a massive difference putting 10 reserve players in to bringing a couple of subs in as the rules state you can do this what the rules say is you have to play your best team that is available i.e not use a bunch of youth or reserve players if your 1st teamers are fit. that's not sour grapes its facts and a breach of the rules set out by the people who run the football leagues. if that was us without owner the football league would of stepped in already bet your life on it.

{Ed001's Note - I have checked as it is a change to the rules and it is very vague: 24    Requirement to Play Full Strength Sides in League Matches

24.1    Each Club shall play its full strength in all Matches played under the auspices of The League unless some satisfactory reason is given. In the event of the explanation not being deemed satisfactory the Board shall refer the matter to a Disciplinary Commission which has the power to impose such penalties as it shall think fit.

After all, a satisfactory reason could easily be that they had illness, injuries or fatigue. It is a pointless and probably unenforcable rule. Typical of the EFL as it would almost certainly never stand up in court, any club lawyer worth their salt would be able to argue that any player in the squad has to be usable or why bother registering them at all? Who is to decide what is full strength in a match? What if the first choice striker all season has been out of form for a few games, can a team not drop them as that could be arguably them not playing a full strength team?}

8.) 30 Apr 2017 14:45:17
Agree the rule wouldn't stand up in court if challenged, Forest would rest some of the better players if a play off spot was secure. It doesn't take away from the fact that we have been 💩 for most of the season and that is why we are at risk of relegation.

9.) 30 Apr 2017 15:43:59
Forget about what forest did. Huddersfield broke the rules plain and simple. They should be punished like any other club would be.

{Ed001's Note - I would say not wanting your players injured for the play offs was a satisfactory reason for not playing them, personally. Sounds like a few of you are deflecting.}

10.) 30 Apr 2017 17:03:35
Typical of our fans to focus on what opposition teams are up 2. Rather than our own shortcomings.

11.) 30 Apr 2017 17:12:54
So you lot will be wanting a stewards enquiry if Blackburn win 4-0 on Sunday?

The table never lies!

12.) 30 Apr 2017 21:52:53
If these guys are getting paid by Huddersfield then they have every right to play them simples that's what they was signed for to play football.

13.) 01 May 2017 11:15:58
Saying I didn't want players to get injured for te playoffs isn't a valid reason. you should play your best team like was said unless illness or injuries dicatate your team selection. resting players that could contribute to another team (us or Blackburn) going down should be against the rules, there's massive money on the line and a clubs future could be on the line.
Again if forest did this you can bet your bottom dollar that the efl would be on our back and most of the teams in the championship would have there say.

{Ed001's Note - it could be argued that putting in a bunch of players who are desperate to impress and try and win a place in the starting line up for the play offs was their best team. It wouldn't matter what team they picked, they had nothing to play for, so there is every chance they would have been more concerned with avoiding injury than getting the win. Who are you to decide what is their best team on any particular day? That is what the manager is employed to do. It is a slippery road to start down if the EFL starts picking teams....}

14.) 03 May 2017 21:27:33
I don't understand what the problem is. Huddesfield utilised their squad. Just like we did on a weekly basis under montanier. You field players that are in your squad and rotate as appropriate. I really don't get what the argument is. I think we are clutching at straws to be honest trying to make a big deal of it. The season is a long campaign and part of working it tactically is resting players for vital games etc. The whole issue confused me.

19 Mar 2017 21:13:27
Thought it was going to be another miserable Saturday night and BANG, That 94th minute goal and celebrations were awsome, that is sheep shafting at its very best. David Vaughan was superb, Ben Brereton did really well even out of position, if Burke was worth thirteen million what can BB be worth. Zac Clough is going to be a great player for Forest and an absolute steal at three million.

Pinillos showed making one and scoring one why McParland should get the Spaniards new contract sealed ASAP. Vellios is so unlucky not to be a regular and I hope the breadman gives him a much deserved chance before Assombalonga who is way off at the moment. So, lots of positives despite our position, a couple of wins and a couple of draws will see us safe. We can and will get there. COYR.

12 Mar 2017 20:48:36
Despite the solitary win in the last seven and the team playing like strangers I really hope Reds fans don't turn on Gary Brazil to a point were he won't want to go back to the NDA and carry on the great work there, that would be awful. He started with three wins out of four and many of us thought this might just work, I did.

Unfortunately it as gone pear shaped and now many of us wise after the event are saying we should have got an experienced manager in. In fairness to GB there was not a huge queue fighting to take over because of our current image and sack em on sight reputation with managers.

So unless Fawaz as got some great manager hidden away in the boot room who he intends to bring in this week to shaft the sheep there is no alternative but to get behind Brazil and Lester and the players and turn up the volume and get a massive win. It should not have got to this for sure but a big dose of positive realism might be the way forward, as the alternatives now are few and far between. COYR.

Wishey asks 2Star who he would bring in. Good answer including a LB and a CB, plus GK. I would go as far as GK, LB but TWO CBs. Defending as been our achilles heel for far far to long now and if we want to win more games than we lose it is time ruthless in idenyifying and rectifying that problem. Worrall is making progress but did you notice how many balls he sent astray passing out. He would be my first choice cover for two strong capable centre halves and make his transision more gradual. This won't go down well with Mancienne and Traore fans but Lichal as skipper would be the only one to retain a back four role imo. Mancienne is not strong enough as a CB and Traore is always injured. Smithy as also improved in goal but like Worrall will continue to improve in the next year or two and stake a claim for a regular start. Quite a brutal but honest assessment if we want to progress from mid table mediocracy. You are nothing without defence and any quality side at any level is built from the back.

Retford Red

1.) 10 Dec 2017 15:18:44
Have to agree mate. any combination of our CB's just isn't good enough.

2.) 10 Dec 2017 15:24:27
Need a defensive midfielder to protect the back four, top priority for me,Osborn showed yet again against Bolton he's not strong enough and can't tackle.

3.) 10 Dec 2017 16:28:02
Yep that’d do for me as well.

10 Dec 2017 12:07:11
Good post Redfreddie, agree with all your points. We looked on the verge ofletting the game slip away until Worralls goal with Bolton having twice as many shots as us overall. His goal was against the run of play but it made all the difference against the biggest side I have seen at Forest. All three goals were good but Breretons the pick of the bunch holding off two players and showing a lot of composure to net. Bridcutt gets a lot of stick but I thought that was his best game for Forest but Mancienne again at fault ball watching for their first goal. Awful game but three points is what really matters. Going back to young Ben, just shows what he is capable of when he is played in his correct position.

Retford Red

1.) 10 Dec 2017 15:51:34
Mancienne would provide us with the DM role with Bridcutt if we can get 2 quality centre halves and left back in?

2.) 10 Dec 2017 18:02:59
The only problem is that's been tried before and to be honest he doesn't look like he wants to play there, went to Burton away last season and he played there and was taken off.
Central defence or not all for me.

3.) 10 Dec 2017 18:43:22
I remember Tranmere away in the cup, MM got sent off by an atrocious referee. Played defensive midfield, passing ok but it's the timing of tackles and barking orders where he fails. I like him as a player but a bit of an enigma, bulk up for centre back or wise/speak up for centre mid. A the moment he's neither one thing or the other.

4.) 10 Dec 2017 18:49:10
Mancienne doesn't have the speed of thought or any range of passing to play any midfield role.
I too was at and remember Burton away when he played defensive mid and he was total garbage as he has been whenever played there.

09 Dec 2017 11:30:28
I know its the pantomine season FF79 but the I ho we love Warbo is stretching it a little. Know which could it be, seasonal wind up, tongue in cheek, totally deluded or you actually believe it. Suspect it won't be the latter. Anyhow back to the real pantomine that is Forest, let's hope the cast all turn up, especially those with any defensive experience or it could lead to some of our own cast seeking a new full time career in panto with Warburton and Weir topping the bill as the ugly work in progress sisters. COYR three points a must today. It is Bolton remember not Barcelona.

Retford Red

1.) 09 Dec 2017 11:52:48
Retford Red

That is the problem, if we lose there will be people saying Warburton should go.

If we win there will be people saying it was only Bolton, Warburton can not win either way.

2.) 09 Dec 2017 13:05:58
Don’t be daft if we win the happy clappers will be singing his praises from the roof tops.
If we do lose all it will prove is anyone can beat anyone in this league 😜

3.) 09 Dec 2017 13:37:29
Easy win today under the mighty mark Warburton 6-0 you reds

4.) 09 Dec 2017 14:05:08
Traore not in the team today which means Eric at left full back. I know it's obvious but we really do need a reliable left full-back and since Pinnilos went we have not had one. I hope MW is looking for one in the next transfer window. Traore let Ipswich's right full back steal a march on him last week and nod the ball into the net.

5.) 09 Dec 2017 14:17:44
Well see when we line up ,could be three at the back with Osborn wing back, let's see

6.) 10 Dec 2017 05:02:22
headless again.lucky win.smith useless. ffs get a keeper who can hold the ball.all he does is parries or punches and ball tapped back in the net. no change in anything just the club being run still the same old dross.

07 Dec 2017 20:41:22
Just read a quote with Warburton saying we only sign players who are significantly better than the ones we have. Would he care to explain how Darikwa is better than Lichal, love to know. How about another forgotten man, Clough coming in just off Murphy v his old club Bolton on Saturday. He would have two points to prove, one against Bolton and one against Warburton. It could be a very positive piece of psychology and with Caryol and McKay wide I think we would give ourselves a real chance if our defence don't let us down again. That is wishful thinking I know but we are Forest fans after all.

Retford Red

1.) 07 Dec 2017 21:31:10
On the basis of Warbo's quote no-one is safe? 11 new signings in Jan?

2.) 07 Dec 2017 21:53:36
Thoroughly agree Retford, see my post from yesterday! We should attack Bolton with pace out wide with a bit of zip and panache for a change.

3.) 08 Dec 2017 13:36:55
The thing with Darikwa is some Burnley fans really rated him, and saw a big future ahead with them. He started a few PL games, and then appears to have lost his place, and his form went downhill. Was he over achieving at Burnley, and has Warbo taken a punt that he can hit those levels again?

4.) 08 Dec 2017 17:22:44
We had injury to Matty Cash early doors and no cover so probably listened to bad advise. Darikwa ws in the Burnley team for a spell to cover injury to the main RB but was never an ever present. Just because a player has played games in the premiership or has come out of Man Utd reserves it doesn't make them a good player.
Darikwa has youth on his side but hasn't a clue how to defend so he is wide midfield at best.
Shame he can't cross a ball

05 Dec 2017 17:38:04
I would like to know what fellow fans think of Warburtons signings this season so far, Murphy, Cummings, McKay, Darikwa, Bouchalakis and Dowell. My view on them is, Murphy, as been a good target man and he still as a goal in him but time is not on his side now and sometimes it shows. Cummings, good record in Scotland but unlikley to do it in championship although playing off a Murphy type would see him in a better light. McKay, great on his day, but needs to produce on a regular basis. Darkwa, if Burnley really did get 2 million for him they must be chuffed as he doesn't look good enough for championship, despite Warburton claiming he is a talent. Bouchalakis, great start with two stunning goals but frozen out like his countryman Vellios so it is very difficult to judge him. Finally, Dowell, goalscoring midfielder with a big future, probably back at Everton unfortunatley but does need to add aggression to his game. that's my view on the half dozen incoming players who are now half way through the season with the Reds. Nice to hear other opinions.

Retford Red

1.) 05 Dec 2017 17:59:22
Fully agree with your assessment of Dowell but like I,ve said before I would like to see him return to Everton in January.
Just blocking the progress of Cummings ,Clough Cash , Bererrton ,Bouchalakis ,Grant Edsner by getting a regular first team slot .
We are improving him at the expense of our young players which dosen,t make sense to me .
Loan players should be used for positions where you are struggling otherwise use your own players .

2.) 05 Dec 2017 18:07:04
About right retford. 2 unbelievable substitutions that to my mind damaged players clough against wednesday and mckay v derby. Like velios we will never know re bouchalakis. Murphy will get 15 goals but he defo can't play 2 games a week.

3.) 05 Dec 2017 18:45:53
Murphy is a quality signing, his positioning is very good and holds the ball really well, knows how to bring others into play, and able to get 20 goals with the right service.

Cummings i think is a hard worker, his positioning is pretty good, and knows where the net is. The problems he has does not have a lot of pace over a long distance, and he needs to bulk up a bit.

McKay can go as high in the game as he wants, he has pace to spare, controls the ball with both feet and know how to score. He does lack consistency butthat will come with time.

Darikwa for me is not a defender, he knows only how to get forward, and his positioning is poor, he needs a free role on the wing.

Bouchalakis for me is not a defensive midfielder, he is a box to box midfielder and with a regular start and a bit of confidence would score regularly.

Dowell is very good for his age but does needs to know when to rough it up and when to use his silky skills. I do agree with Carlo he is holding the progress of other talented Forest players.

4.) 05 Dec 2017 19:36:34
Retford Red you are pretty much right. We've got players who can hold where we are just about. Dowell will leave because he's premier material. We need to be looking 3 years to get the right team together whilst the club is sorted out from top to bottom. Any more additions will not necessarily improve the team much; one man will not make a difference.

5.) 05 Dec 2017 19:49:13
Agree with your assessment Retford, but with Darikwa I'm afraid that if his only asset is attack then we have plenty of players in front of him and at 2 million was a waste of money.

6.) 05 Dec 2017 19:54:09

If any player we are after is not much better than what we already have we should leave them where they are and try improving what we already have.

Tomorrow, I would be tempted to go 4411 with Smith, Lichaj, Worrall, Fox, Pinnilos, Pereira, Mancienne, Cohen, Traore, Clough, Brereton. Subs McCormack, Osbourne, Cash, Caryol, Assambalonga, Mills, Evtimov. Pereira and Traore both named as fullbacks but I think both are good at getting forward but still have that defensive side when needed. Gboly Ariyibi would be my wild card pick as what I have seen of him he looks very good. And it could be Vaughan instead of either Cash or Caryol if you need to go for a stronger defensive squad.

If Forest loose at Brum I think Jack Lester will be put in charge as caretaker. I think he would do a good job and even land it full time. Would make sense as the queue for new manager won't be very long I fear. He knows and values the youngsters and would provide the team with shape and motivation.

So in Warburton you trust. Why don't I believe you. He is not fit to lace Dougie Freedmans bootlaces. The man who had no money to spend, could only bring in frees or loans but still kept us up. This man who you trust as already spent millions on players who are not up to it, fact.

Another Forest fan told me he had seen a report saying Villa had him on £52,000 a week. Even if we are only paying half of that it seems crazy to have him as a bench warmer with his record.
