Danny Fox has signed a 3 year contract. What are our thoughts on this? With Dan Harding, does that mean Pearce wants him as regular left back? He is steady and safe but no worse than Konchesky and other top 6 left backs?

gedward

{Ed034's Note - welcome aboard mr fox

1.) I think after a good pre season and injury free he will play like he did for Southampton then I think we he will be a great addition and even then he's much better than Harding so I'm hoping Harding is shipped out now!

2.) This is also like signing a midfielder as CC can now be an option for Midfield

3.) He's a decent Championship full-back. He hasn't looked great at Forest recently but then again Forest have been poor on the whole.

Hopefully next season, with Forest back on form, he can show us what he can do.

4.) I personally think good signing and as per post posted elsewhere I think he will benefit from Pearce being in charge, might even see him play further forward. Keeping Harding could mean Cohen taking the DM role with Vaughan though gather Pearce rates Cohen as a LB too

5.) Fox is dire! Harding mark 2! Terrible signing

6.) No - he's not worse than Harding

7.) I haven't seen Fox play enough to form an opinion but general feedback isn't great. Personally I would keep Cohen there.

8.) I think our manager is as good a judge of a left back as you will get and he obviously sees somthing that he can work with in Fox so I say welcome to him and let's have some faith.

9.) He gets forward and has a good left foot. Crosses it very well.

10.) 09 May 2014 17:44:16
Have seen both Cohen & Fox play this season and Cohen much better all round LB but Fox will be a good deputy.

11.) Tj3 no way has Harding been better than fox this season. Unbelievable.

12.) He`s a great signing.
I only saw him athome against Birmingham and thought he had a pretty good game.
When he first came he was lacking match fitness and that showed.
With pre season behind I think he could e the left back Forest have been looking for to allow Cohen to play in a more advanced role.

13.) He's a good squad player, he wasn't the only poor performer in the team he'll do well in a settled back four

14.) I would argue just because someone is good at playing doesn't automatically make them a good manager.

My miss's is the Ronaldo of playing with Money but the David Platt of managing it!

15.) 09 May 2014 20:03:34
Good signing.
Hopefully means Harding will be moving on.

16.) Good signing. He may not have looked great but he has only played when we have been on our weakest with injuries and playing with our second string.
He will look different playing along side Hobbs and Wilson.

17.) Van morgan - brilliant

18.) Relatives who support the Saints were more than happy to see the back of him, reckoned he was poor for them even in the Championship. I haven't seen anything to make me disagree. Reasonable deputy for CC but no more than that.

19.) Excellent signing, very good left back with a good pre season in him and regular games will come back to something like his best. Potentially best left back in the championship.

20.) I wonder whether we fans or Mr stuart Pearce is best qualified to judge a left back.

21.) I think he will improve with a good pre season & mr pearce as his mentor but I still think a fully fit chris cohen is the best left back at the club & if he plays like he did before he got injured fox will be on the bench for most of the season plus he gets too many bookings

22.) So Diamond Geezer, your relatives are Southampton supporters and he was rubbish in the Championship? 13 assists from LB, second in their team in the promotion season to the Premier League and he was rubbish? Granted he didn't really produce in the Premiership and lost his place to Shaw but his effectiveness going forward at this level can't be argued.

23.) I've always rated him fair enough he's not been great so far but who's to say he's not going to improve. We have not not seen it yet but he take's a hell of a freekick scored some very good one's so everybody get supporting this guy knocking him is not going to make him any better.

24.) I think he will be a lot better player this year. It looked like for most of it that he was trying hard to get up the wing and forcing something to happen as we didn't have a spark coming from anywhere else. So that was the times he was being caught out defensiveley.
I hope that this frees mr Cohen to going back on to the left of midfield, and I think the two of them will be able to cover a lot of ground! Also this will allow mr. Reid to have a free role, as when o'driscoll was incharge. Because he looked awesome just I between there midfield and defense. Nobody knew how to cope with him!

25.) He will be one of the top left backs in the championship if he gets a good run in the side, really needed a left back, imo Harding is not good enough, use Cohen in midfield and then at left back if needed

{Ed034's Note - in place of who in midfield?? (Please register to post)

26.) Ok atrophy, my contacts are not a representative sample, but it was his defensive abilities they had less confidence in,.

27.) With Wilson and Hobbs to the right of him he will b able to play more freely. he hasn't had this yet as the donkey that is Collins has been at the side of him. I think he will be quality if Cohen gets put on the wing in front of him. our 1st team lineup is nothing short of quality. darlow, lichaj, Wilson, Hobbs, fox, Paterson, lansbury, Reid, Vaughan, Cohen just need that one quality striker to bang the chances in that that midfield will create. god I can't wait for that team to play for us next season.

{Ed034's Note - i think having Vaughan in dm, will give him more freedom

28.) I would agree Diamond that defensively he has some weakness, but if the setup suits and with good players (Hobbs/Wilson/Lichaj) alongside him I think he'll do well, sorry if I came across badly in my previous post.

As for Cohen I think he won't be as effective at LB anymore, having an injury/op like he has will make his knee stronger but the side effect is he will have lost pace. I hope I'm proved wrong but I have a feeling he will feature more in midfield than defense this year.

29.) Don't rare him at all. Put him and Harding together and you still don't get a good left back. What about younger players, the young lad at Rangers looks a dad better bet, he has lots of potential and will only increase in value.

{Ed034's Note - fox and Cohen as our left backs, will be a better pairing than anything else in this league

30.) As other posts have mentioned I don't think we've seen enough of him yet. I've seen flashes of excellent play from Fox and he goes forward well and puts a sweet cross in. Happy st holder here. Welcome in Fox.

31.) He has signed for 3 years, he is a championship quality natural left-back. How many posts have we had on here in the last few years about needing a natural left-back, well now we have signed one, so let's support him. He has only played for us when we were at our weakest, let's see how he does in our full-strength team before moaning.

{Ed034's Note - we have one in Cohen and this now means we have another option

32.) I hope he plays well but if he gets in ahead of Cohen I can't see Cohen getting in the team (unless lansbury or reid gets injured).

Anyway to hell with the negativity would rather be debating who to play LB between Cohen and Fox than consider Harding

33.) 10 May 2014 11:10:24
We don't know what effect Cohen's injury has had on him. Let's hope he comes back fit but it's good to know we now have an excellent left back competing with him for the spot.

34.) 10 May 2014 11:15:23
An above average left back who likes to get forward. Struggled a little bit at Forest as needed game time. A good pre-season without an injury and I feel we can get the best out of him. When Andy Reid got injured I think he struggled slightly because no one seemed to track back and help him out.

35.) Darlow
lichaj Hobbs Wilson Fox
Vaughan Lansbury
Paterson Reid Cohen
Assambolonga

Subs De vries Halford Peltier Osbourne Mackie Callum Wilson Cox

Just a thought i'd be happy

36.) I think it'll be good to have Cohen available for midfield if needed. He might not be first choice there, but he's got to be a better option than relying on kids - or resorting to Moussi.

37.) Mod Red - like your tea could be onto a winner there

38.) Cox not sure of him he misses all the time in FIFA 14 and I think we can get better at the striker position.

39.) Another Southampton cast off. Don't rate him or Harding.

40.) I really am interested in knowing who people would like at LB? Tell me who is a better freebie?

41.) 11 May 2014 12:45:48
Need to get rid of Cox and get someone in who can score also get Hart in to look after the kid's also get Garry birtles or Trevor Francis in to coach the strikers

42.) 11 May 2014 14:23:40
Have to agree Harding is not the player we want or need but Fox for me is a great addition to the squad. From his first game you could see he was a cut above Harding, Collins, Halford etc.
Quality player and great signing. works well at the back and when pushing forward, great balance with Lichaj on the right playing a similar game

43.) Mod Red! No Lascelles not even on the bench? Eh!

44.) See my next post possibly on banter page ;-) but yeah I did miss lascelles probably for peltier

45.) Fox has done alright in the past but he was not impressive whilst on loan.

He'll probably be another one on a contract that is totally disproportionate to his production.

Heard a rumour that Billy has a list of wingers who he is approaching and sounding out availability via their agents. from a good source, Paul Anderson (Bristol city -Ex red) is one of them. Billy rated him previously and can get the best of him.

gedward

1.) Paul Anderson! No thanks

2.) Paul Anderson has been playing golf regularly at course 30mins away from Nottingham. Though it is also 20mins away from Melton so it is likely he's visiting family on the off season

3.) Hope pa isn't true. Still waiting for him to perform from his last stint.

4.) What a load of nonsense. Anderson was very poor and not of the quality we should be looking at

5.) Can he get a golf ball off the floor because he had trouble with a football?!

6.) Anderson will do well in league one he should stay there!

7.) My six year old has more strength

8.) Ando is yesterdays man. we need to move forward with better

9.) God help us if this is true. Lg 1 at best. Don't believe it though.

10.) With what is available out there i'm sure Anderson is bottom of most peoples list. Including Billys

Dazza

11.) Spoke to PA after Bristol away and he said he'd love to play for Billy again, sadly for him I doubt billy is as excited at the prospect

12.) He's a better golfer than a footballer! And I've seen him at the crazy golf at skeggy to prove it.

13.) Seriously hope this isn't true.

14.) , are there any more ex-players we can be linked with, perhaps? Earnshaw, Kris Boyd, Andy Impey? Come on, stop making stuff up now

15.) Was a good player when bd was there {Ed034's Note - really???

16.) He was ok, but never scored enough goals when he got into good positions, then his ribs got against Leeds, never the same player after

17.) Lets be serious, we are going for promotion to the premier league not in the other direction. He's a good league 1 player at best.

18.) He lives (d) betwen Nottm & Melton so may still be around the area in summer? Hope its not true though, very lightweight and non-producer unfortunately. Never played wide enough. My concern about Billys tactics, if he needs wingers etc, why did he narrow the pitch? Never understood that one.

19.) You must be part of a twin brother double act with Deadwood with a rumour like that!

20.) When Ando ran at people he was fantastic, my Sheff Wednesday mate was really impressed by him when he ripped them to bits but the problem was he never ran at people.

Cox, Mackie & Collins on their way out apparently. Not for big money obviously. What is everyones thoughts? Personally, I can imagine there are some big wages amongst those 3 so that is one positive. The other is, Collins is far down the pecking order.

I've always thought Cox and Mackie, are decent in the Championship, but kind of don't really have too much impact. Maybe youth on a quarter of the wages is a better route to take in terms of business.

gedward

1.) Out of the 3 would of liked mackie to stay think he has more to give

2.) Not bothered about cox and collins going but would hsve liked to have seen mackie stay can play numerous positions and works his socks off for the team

3.) Where's the Collins rumour coming from?

{Ed034's Note - been suggested in the media

4.) If all the players go that are being mentioned plus no darlow or lacselles wages to pay that will save us around 6million pound this year alone. and will we miss Collins Cox and Mackie?I do like Mackie but he's on big wages.

5.) 06 Aug 2014 10:19:38
All 3 are hard working good championship players . Cox not delivered lots of promise but just cannot score consistently, Collins works hard good leader but too often at fault when conceding, Mackie is a 1 trick pony and that trick is put your head down and run, not a scorer or a winger. we can get better and already have(Fryatt , Burke and Mancienne)

6.) Where is Collins going to?

7.) Probably Collins last season in the game anyway

20 Apr 2014 19:06:24
Does anyone know why Lansbury & Wilson were not in the squad against Birmingham?

gedward

{Ed034's Note - Lansbury back and Wilson hamstring

1.) Not much chance of either playing today then ed?

{Ed034's Note - no and Peltier won't play either

03 Sep 2013 17:12:05
Geddy has gone! Which Balances the books I guess! I've heard that Cohen is to play the holding role and Reyes (right back) and Lichaj (left back) will be full backs!

I personally through Geddy is quality, but gives the ball away too much and shoots to often from 40 years out! What do you all think about this transfer?

gedward

1.) Pep is the type of player that both excites and frustrates fans. Fans love him because he has a cavalier approach to playing football. However, this can be frustrating when trying to play in a specific pattern. Billy likes his team's to play fast attacking football, whilst maintaining discipline at the back. Pep hasn't really shown that discipline this season, but equally hasn't really shown his flair either. Personally, I'd have loved him to stay, but I have thought all season that he would be on his way out. at some point soon, especially with the likes of Leadbitter being targeted.

Anyone know why Blackstock or Abdoun were not in the squad vs Huddersfield?

gedward

1.) Abdoun is waiting for some kind of clearance needed by overseas players. Maybe DB is injured or out of favour.

2.) Neither were Moussi or Lascelles

3.) No I was wrong. According to BD in today's Post, Abdoun 'is not fit enough. He came into the club 12 days before the season and trained very little. He needs another week of training. '

21 one years old, pace power, can obviously finish. Great potential, goalscorers get teams promoted. So good buy really! We will loose Darlow and Lascelles, but, we do have another couple of new young centre halves and a young goalie.

Antonio and him, will add a dimension we have not had for years. Pace and power!! Along with the class of Patterson, Reid, Lansbury etc!

We have to remember, that agents with players consent push these things through too, and we don't know about the deal, sell on fee's and how the fee's will increase. Newcastle will pay their ages this season too? Who knows.

With Hobbs, Michael, Wilson, Collins (?) and youngsters Riera and the smoggy lad, I'm not fussed about Lacelles. Other defenders can do a good job.

Darlow is a big loss, but he has a lot to learn and has loads of potential, so we would be selling the potential. He will warm the bench at Newcastle.

Leicesterturned down £5million for Kasper Schmeichael last year. Proven for years. only strikers seems to raise big £££ in championship

Ben Osborn is like a new free singing too!

If he signed he would be the best striker at the club! So of course a good signing!

I'm not too down about that if it is true. He literally had one of the best touches I've seen, in terms of technique, and looked better at full back, but just a bit slack on the ball, and positional sense let the team down and numerous goal this season.
