That's a small looking line up we've put out. I would imagine QPR will be chucking plenty of crosses into our penalty area for Smith who is very good in the air. I'd imagine they'll target Osborn in particular.

1.) 24 Feb 2018 16:33:03
Seem to be doing alright anyway mate!!!

2.) 24 Feb 2018 16:58:22
As I said the other day, if we played football like we did in the second half it wouldn’t be long before we smashed some teams.

Let them build it from here, but it’s looking pretty good to me

3.) 24 Feb 2018 20:32:46
Lesson in life the whole is better than the sum of the individual parts and that gets results.
Karanka has now got a team playing rather than playing individuals who on paper are better?
Clougie did the same!
Onward and upward.

26 Jan 2018 19:13:32
According to Sky sports we're interested in Tim Cahill. Seems a strange one to me.

1.) 26 Jan 2018 19:32:05
Have we been taken over by Millwall?

2.) 26 Jan 2018 19:39:54
You have mixed it up, they say Millwall have offered him a contract about 2 hours ago.

3.) 26 Jan 2018 20:41:34
10 yrs too late. Was a cracking player.

4.) 26 Jan 2018 20:48:03
It's all over sky and fox sport Australia that we are going to hijack Cahill from Millwall, i hope not at 38 i think he's past it rather have de Oliveria ⚓

5.) 26 Jan 2018 23:15:10
Tim Cahill, 38, needs competitive football because of his last world cup. 6 month contract, model pro, will score goals and not as daft as it seems. A serious option if Vaughny keeps getting niggling injuries. No, I'm being serious.😉

6.) 27 Jan 2018 01:52:49
I've seen him on tv regularly in Asia playing for the Aussies, believe me he's still got it
Scores goals, winds up defences, no worries!

7.) 29 Jan 2018 11:14:11
I'd be happy to take him until the end of the season. Although the A League is not the same as the championship he still packs a punch. Also a little old at 39 my fav has to be Archie Thompson who played for my Aus team Melbourne Victory, still as fit as a butchers dog 90 goals in 229 apps.

10 Sep 2017 20:10:06
It doesn't seem to matter which defenders play, the result is still the same, no organisation and chaotic defending. Simply bringing in another CB would not have solved our problems. It's something that can only be put right by the manager and his coaching staff. Deciding whether we go with a back 5 or back 4 and then sticking to it week in week out would be a start, then drop zonal marking and going man to man marking should help at set pieces.

The leadership qualities of Lichaj should make him a regular in the team and I fail to see what Darwikra has done to keep last year's player of the season out of the team. You would think David Weir should know how to set up a defence. At least the Matt Mills haters can't blame him for yesterday!

1.) 11 Sep 2017 04:59:52
I think a vocal cb to pull other 3 into place and take charge would make a world of difference

2.) 11 Sep 2017 08:15:39
You are so right but been saying it all along, good luck with the response.

3.) 11 Sep 2017 09:37:29
I understand the reasoning behind playing the ball out from the back (If you hoof it then the vast majority of the time the ball goes to the opposition) but can we just play it forward quicker from the back in the same way that Liverpool do? 3 passes out and the ball should not be near the Penalty Area it should be near the half way line (unless we are playing against Beckham then it is doubtful that the opponents can shoot from there)

4.) 11 Sep 2017 12:07:29
We have to be able to mix the way we play, yes playing from the back and possession football is easy on the eye but not if we lose the ball and concede goals. As a defender, if in doubt get it out, better decision making against Leeds and S.Weds may have yielded an extra point or two. I agree about moving the ball quicker too, the longer we take the more time the opposition has to arrange their defence. Problem for Smith is this exposes his poor distribution, time to take him out of the firing line and give us the option of breaking quickly. This style would suit away games and against the better sides at home, just a realistic opinion based on our mid table expectations? FTID

5.) 11 Sep 2017 12:55:59
we don't look well drilled to me, set peices need to be drilled and drilled, and for me need to start marking more man to man instead of more zonal.

beyond me why a steady defender lichaj isn't starting, darikwa a liability to me.

6.) 11 Sep 2017 16:27:16
I'd like to see this defence given time to gel
Licha Manchienne Hobbs/worrell troare
Hobbs if he's fit. Then Vaughen bridgcutt holding
With Mackey dowel osbourn. And Murphy upfront.

7.) 11 Sep 2017 20:04:00
Playing the ball out the way we do, which is giving it to the first defender is suicide. That defender should then knock it it deep into midfield. No we lass it sideways which allows the opposition to get at us causing nervousness. Playing it long to a decent striker ie murphy or velios allows the defence tobpysh up and get bsck in formation. Simples. If the ball does come straight back we shouldbe organised to deal with it. Playing it out from the back is pk in the prem where the opposition strikers will back off. not in this league.

8.) 11 Sep 2017 20:24:29
Rr1. The longer you pass the ball the more likely it is to be intercepted, or for it to go astray. A player should run then pass, then move again, and off course a players pass needs to be accurate.

9.) 11 Sep 2017 21:43:56
Abf correct but we gave possesion to weds in dreadful areas which led to goals. Listen. Pearce would often take the ball from sutton, webb ot hodge would show for him and an early accurate pass from pearce would get us moving forward. Not this pish from sat where the ball was nervously batted about with no conviction. Play to your strengths. Fox worral and darikwa were terrified in posession.

10.) 13 Sep 2017 10:01:41
We certainly need to sort out the back. I personally think Darikwa is a decent solid back, i can remember the beginning of the last two seasons fans saying Lichaj was a liability when we were leaking goals. Keep Darikwa on the right, Lichaj can play on the right with Mancienne and another in the middle, Worral or Fox.

11.) 13 Sep 2017 10:08:33
Ooops, I meant Lichaj can play on the left!

07 Mar 2017 23:51:29
We're stuck with GB until the end of the season and hopefully there's 3 teams worse than us. GB has done brilliantly with the youth set up but doesn't have the tactical nous at this level. His one tactic is to set up a hard working team who are happy to let the opposition have the ball and hope that we can hold out for an hour then nick a goal. This worked against Brighton and got us a point against Wigan. I expect much the same against Burton. The frustrating thing is that we are much better when we go on the attack which doesn't usually happen until we're chasing the game. I would like to see us have a go from the off and play with a high tempo and some pace out wide, particularly at home. Make no mistake we are in a relegation battle and I can see it going right to the wire this season. Fingers crossed we have enough to stay up.

1.) 08 Mar 2017 07:40:38
We have a five point cushion, that does not mean we do not have to worry to some extent, but the reason any team is in, or around the relegation struggle is because they are drawing, and losing too many games.

All the teams below us would love to be where we are, with a five point cushion. As long as it is in our own hands we are ok to think about Championship football next season.

2.) 08 Mar 2017 10:35:24
Tomorrow mate, that "cushion" will soon evaporate if we get beat and all of a sudden it can be potentially 2! We don't have the balls for a fight, and Brazil's not the guy. Never was, when he takes over its up and down. Mostly down.

3.) 08 Mar 2017 11:07:32
Rogie Red

Im not trying to say Brazil is right for the job, and off course the 5 point lead could easily evaporate but the bottom three teams do not have that luxury, so when they lose they get deeper in the mire unless others slip up.

I would rather have the 5 point lead than not.

4.) 08 Mar 2017 12:55:08
When GB and JL took over, we had played 26 games and had 27 points, obviously a fraction over 1 point per game.

Since then, we have played 10 and have picked up 13 points, that's 1.3 points.

We were 20th, we are now 18th.

We were 3 points above the bottom 3, we are now 5.

Now I'm not saying that no one else could have done better than that. But I am saying.

1. Under GB and JL we are moving away from relegation, not towards it (I'll add the caveat of CURRENTLY)
2. Anyone that could do a better job, doesn't want the job, at least until they know what division we are in next season!

So, we live with what we have and be grateful for it!

5.) 08 Mar 2017 14:29:33
If we continually play a slow, unfit Britt, up front on his own. We will definitely be outscored. Leading us further down the league, into a relegation scrap, let's take the game TO the opposition! And stop showing THEM, too much respect! The only way we will get out of this message is to play our pacey players, "Hilda"and The lad we got from Chesterfield. from back to front, we must have one of the slowest teams in this league, and I think opposing teams know this. And exploit this weakness, week in week out!

6.) 08 Mar 2017 19:51:19
We have skill and pace in Clough, Brereton and Ariyibi. Play all 3 and opposition defences will not cope.

7.) 08 Mar 2017 21:42:25
Agreed mate. When they aren't playing we are a slow as a wet weekend!

06 Mar 2017 21:40:56
on his way to Rosenborg.

1.) 06 Mar 2017 22:08:26
Done deal wasted his talent.

2.) 06 Mar 2017 23:22:12
There is a God! Absolutely useless, good luck Rosenborg!

3.) 06 Mar 2017 23:40:10
Thank you Mr Bendtner for your contribution. Had we had a stronger midfield this season playing you up top with another striker would have got the best out you and the team.

For me you have nothing to prove just the right type of player at the wrong time! Good Luck.

4.) 07 Mar 2017 08:21:41
possibly the laziest player i've ever seen in a Forest shirt. Good riddance.

5.) 07 Mar 2017 08:30:33
I hope that's McParland getting rid of the crocs. Dumitru and Kasami next please.

6.) 07 Mar 2017 10:21:50
Both Dumitri and Kashmir on season long loans. No chance of getting rid of them.

7.) 07 Mar 2017 10:25:46
Great to have him off the wage bill, even better if we managed to get a small fee for him too.

8.) 07 Mar 2017 12:45:15
Dont think Bendtner was ever the man for an ailing lower Championship club famous for its inability to create scoring chances, lack of width and supporting central midfield.

That said, we have a 17 year old striker who's putting Bendtners application levels to shame. Lack of service is a genuine gripe, but the fact he didn't move or try something different to influence the game sticks in the throat given his pedigree.

He's better off somewhere else for all concerned.

9.) 07 Mar 2017 14:20:34

That makes it a great effort to have beaten Brighton 3-0 in our last game, what score could it have been had we a strong midfield that could supply our forwards.

10.) 07 Mar 2017 14:57:30
The Brighton result was primarily a case of us knocking Brighton off their stride. A victory for hard work, endeavour and capitalising on Brightons mistakes.

There was no great footballing philosophy behind it from memory.

11.) 08 Mar 2017 09:01:18
Britt has one shot in 75 minutes against Brentford. Brereton comes on and scores almost straight away - that should tell the management something.

12.) 09 Mar 2017 06:54:33
you can only shoot when you get service in box, it isn't happening. Ward, Osborne Vaughan don't supply enough good balls into box.
Solution don't pay both Ward and Osborne too similar too lightweight.

I think most of us would have been happy with a point at Swansea before kick off and we were solid and never looked likely to lose the game. Having said that I think Swansea were pretty average and the game was there for the taking yesterday. Having bought in 16 players and not having a striker on the bench sums up his mentality for me. Never agreed with letting Brereton go without replacing him and yesterday didn't change make me that opinion. still, a point away from home is ok as long as we follow it up with 3 points in our next match.

1.) 16 Sep 2018 13:54:50
I'd agree with that PTB. The away draws are good points. It's the home draws which are costing us.

03 Sep 2018 16:21:34
Whether you want AK gone on not his record so far at our great club is awful. Couple that with an uninspiring style of play (there are a few notable exceptions), constant tinkering with the team and constant lethargic 1st half displays and I can understand some fellow Reds fans wanting him gone. I really want him to succeed but just think he's too stubborn to change. The vast majority of us would love to see 2 up front, ideally with some pace to try and stretch the opposition back 4 and a more dynamic attack minded midfield partnership. And why on earth he tried so hard to sign Colback and Pants after we'd all seen what little they offer last season is beyond me. Please try something different Krankie, we can't get much worse can we?

1.) 03 Sep 2018 17:02:23
I noticed jack colbeck booked on saturday again just two awy from suspension now i think he is the new henri lansbury

2.) 03 Sep 2018 17:17:50
Colback is a quality defensive midfielder. He sniffs out danger and has stopped several key opposition players scoring past us. That said when coupled with Watson there's no forward pass and it kills us. We need a forward passer alongside Colback.

3.) 03 Sep 2018 20:54:03
Absolutely mate, I can’t believe the stick Watson and Colback get on here, it’s not their fault they are being played together. They are brilliant at what the do, that is their game, creativity isn’t. Instead of having a pop at the defensive midfielders how about we question the millions eased on the 3 Portuguese players who so far have done very little to improve our creative edge. Osborn and cash are more creative yet find themselves on the bench to accommodate players who quite simply aren’t as effective as they both are. Karanka - please get a grip because as usual forest fans are singling out the wrong players because of your tactics.

And as for Grabban - I have no words.

4.) 03 Sep 2018 23:07:04
2 star no one is having a go at Watson or colback,it's just you can't play them together and that's been painfully obvious when they have played together.
All the strikers will look bad in this formation and do.
Cash should play, but calvahalo was bought to be the playmaker, he can't do it alone and trying to play in a 35 year old striker and two holding midfielders that are always 30 yards behind him.

It the way the manager sets us up and we won't get many wins playing like that.
He sends a team out with none of the back four capable of scorin, two holding midfielders that can't score.
A striker starved of chances, leaves only two wingers to score the goals and Calvalho?
That's a recipe to struggle especially when we concede every game.

5.) 03 Sep 2018 23:30:37
We already had Bridcutt and Watson at the club who can sniff out danger so really don't get why we needed another DM. And I dread to think how much we are paying him. A more attack minded midfielder should have been the priority.

6.) 03 Sep 2018 23:51:59
Well said Redtree

7.) 04 Sep 2018 12:26:49
I prefar colback to Watson. Watson lacks pace and can't pass Colback does that little bit more on and off ball.

27 Aug 2018 22:23:02
As much as people are clamouring for a new striker I think we also need another midfielder. One with a physical presence and an eye for a pass. We look a much better and more balanced side with Guediora in the side as he has the ability to get us moving forward quickly and can switch play. He won't play every game and Watson is clearly not an option to replace him. As much as I like Osborn a midfield of him and Colback would be overpowered and Bridcutt should be used as a back up option when Colback doesn't play.

1.) 27 Aug 2018 22:37:57
We already have one passtheball,His name is Bridcutt or we could go younger and his name is Yeats.
We've got too many midfielders already

2.) 27 Aug 2018 22:53:27
I cash in the middle of midfield he has got the speed the legs to keep going all game.

3.) 27 Aug 2018 23:09:08
Said that myself lower and in full agreement.

25 Aug 2018 22:08:05
We somehow managed to get something out of the game but it doesn't excuse another woeful performance. Our game plan seemed to be to lump 80 yard passes up to Murphy and hope for the best. Our midfield was totally over run and words fail to explain how poor Watson was. Colback was not much better and continues to give away stupid free kicks in dangerous areas. Neither centre half wins enough of their ariel battles and the opposition seem quicker reacting to the a second ball. It amazes me that we still start games so slowly and on the back foot. I'm trying to keep a positive attitude but am really struggling to have faith in AK and his tactics.

1.) 25 Aug 2018 22:25:49
I just can't understand why we start every game so bad and then play well when we start losing I thought part of karankas tactics was to bring in players who want to play for us that should be play for us a full game not quarter of it every game something isn't working

2.) 26 Aug 2018 07:27:01
Err skegs at what part of the game did we play well ??

3.) 26 Aug 2018 09:26:33
The part we played well were the moments when Lolley shot twice and the moment Murphy struck the rebound. You could argue when they held up Osbourne's number and Lolley's number to come on were the other moments of "genius" from the "chosen one".

I reckon Bridcutt has to be the unluckiest player in the squad. When he played towards the end of last season he looked really decent and a better player than Watson.

4.) 26 Aug 2018 09:50:41
Ah yes !we played a bit better 10 minutes from time

5.) 26 Aug 2018 10:16:39
The way I saw it was brum put 90 mins running into the 1st 45 and we came into it more when their legs went 2nd half helped by Osborn and lolly coming on , carvallhio still gives the ball away too easily I watched benfica least night and I bet they could have sold us 10 players equally as good as him who can't get in their team, they don’t give the ball away easily he does , and anyone who watched wolves yesterday will realise the Portuguese lads they got are on a different level to ours think we’ve been mugged sadly

25 Aug 2018 10:00:23
Set pieces are so important in football, matches are often decided by them. Cardiff weren't a great side last year but got promoted on the back of being tough to play against and grabbing vital goals from corners, free kicks and long throws. Middlesbrough last night weren't great but won the game with a goal from Ayala which was apparently his 4th in his last 11 games. They also have Flint who has scored 34 in the 4 seasons he was at Bristol. I love watching us play like we did against WBA and don't want us to become a long ball team but we need to be effective at set pieces, both defensively and offensively. It could make the difference in tight games where we're not playing that well.

1.) 25 Aug 2018 11:04:58
Agree with that also helps if your cb are 6.5 and 6.6 for some reason to me forest can't seem to deliver decent balls in especially from corners the best side I've seen last season were villa who can whip in free kicks really well

2.) 25 Aug 2018 11:51:02
Against wba we had fewer shots on goal than wba. Infact in the furst half they had clear sight of goal 3 times yet we so called dominated the play. Second half we created less as carvalaho etc faded. Then it was usual panick stations at the end with wba banging our woodwork 3 times that i counted. Finding AK really weird with his selections and team set up. Buying two regular fullbacks and not playing them is bewildering and not letting soudani loose from the off to get at the opposition is also a wonder. We need to get some reward early in matches and not be chasing the game from the first 2 mins.

3.) 25 Aug 2018 12:17:55
With our record over last few years Ikeston lad Flint would have been my big signing this summer ,big tough heads and kicks it like CH,s should and very dangerous at the other end ,Flint and a good LB would have solved so many old flaws we have ,much more sense than how we have spent this window.

4.) 25 Aug 2018 20:41:19
I think you will find Byram and Robinson phased in. They both joined late but should now be up to match ready.

Carvalho needs to play as the creative link starting with 2 holding midfielders until we tightened up the back. If Soudani starts then it would have to be in a wide role left assuming Cash plays right. GrabOne needs to play and break his duck.

The question today is whether Osborn stays at left back given the high ball game Brum play?

Byram should be in for sure. Hef is made for this game with Fig but I cannot see 3 changes in the back 4? AK is not likely to start with 3 at the back unless he has been drilling them to stop the opposition wide players further up the pitch.

2 changes at the back for me plus Diaz back in the team to start at home?

All will be revealed at 4pm

Totally agree FF. If there had been some consistency in our performances and we could see we were heading in the right direction, but had just been a little unlucky, we would be encouraged. We've actually rode our luck in a few games and that finally ran out in the Brentford game.

Anyone think Dias might be worth a go playing off Murphy or Grabban? He looks a bit tied down on the wing but seems to have something about him. He has pace, good feet and can take a man on. Not as lightweight as the other 2 Portuguese either. I know it was only a friendly against average opposition but the goal he scored running from the halfway line suggests he could offer something running at defences and give an option running in behind the back 4. I guess I'm hoping he could be used a little bit like Lucas Moura is at Spurs although obviously he's not at that level. Just a thought.

Selling Brereton is a huge mistake. He has the attributes to become a top player. If it was just a loan deal to get him some game time I could accept it but it looks more and more likely that selling him to offset the 6m we spent on Grabban was the plan all along. In a couple of years I wonder whether it'll have looked a good deal or not?

They've had a full pre-season and should be ready to play. How long do we wait until they're ready? They need to start showing us what they can do because if they can't do it now they've got no chance on a cold night in January. Must agree that on current form Cash and Soudani should play and I would definitely bring in Robinson and Byram because defensively we are poor. Let's try and keep faith with the new boys and try to encourage them on match day.

Based on his performances so far if Cahvallho was called Smith and came from Doncaster for a hundred grand fee would be saying he should be in the starting 11. Think we're getting caught in the trap of thinking because he came from Benfica and cost a lot of money he must have something about him. He may well come good but at the moment he should be on the bench for the first team and playing in the under 23's to get used to English football and show what he can do. That's what the likes of Cash and Osborn have had to do.

I really want Cahvallo to succeed and its still early days but he's shown very little so far and it has to be said that at this moment in time it looks like Tomlin would have been a better option for that role.

I thought he was there trying to persuade Trevor Brooking to come out of retirement and add some experience to our midfield!
