According to Sky sports we're interested in Tim Cahill. Seems a strange one to me.

passtheball

1.) 26 Jan 2018 19:32:05
Have we been taken over by Millwall?

2.) 26 Jan 2018 19:39:54
You have mixed it up, they say Millwall have offered him a contract about 2 hours ago.

3.) 26 Jan 2018 20:41:34
10 yrs too late. Was a cracking player.

4.) 26 Jan 2018 20:48:03
It's all over sky and fox sport Australia that we are going to hijack Cahill from Millwall, i hope not at 38 i think he's past it rather have de Oliveria ⚓

5.) 26 Jan 2018 23:15:10
Tim Cahill, 38, needs competitive football because of his last world cup. 6 month contract, model pro, will score goals and not as daft as it seems. A serious option if Vaughny keeps getting niggling injuries. No, I'm being serious.😉

6.) 27 Jan 2018 01:52:49
I've seen him on tv regularly in Asia playing for the Aussies, believe me he's still got it
Scores goals, winds up defences, no worries!

7.) 29 Jan 2018 11:14:11
I'd be happy to take him until the end of the season. Although the A League is not the same as the championship he still packs a punch. Also a little old at 39 my fav has to be Archie Thompson who played for my Aus team Melbourne Victory, still as fit as a butchers dog 90 goals in 229 apps.

10 Sep 2017 20:10:06
It doesn't seem to matter which defenders play, the result is still the same, no organisation and chaotic defending. Simply bringing in another CB would not have solved our problems. It's something that can only be put right by the manager and his coaching staff. Deciding whether we go with a back 5 or back 4 and then sticking to it week in week out would be a start, then drop zonal marking and going man to man marking should help at set pieces.

The leadership qualities of Lichaj should make him a regular in the team and I fail to see what Darwikra has done to keep last year's player of the season out of the team. You would think David Weir should know how to set up a defence. At least the Matt Mills haters can't blame him for yesterday!

passtheball

1.) 11 Sep 2017 04:59:52
I think a vocal cb to pull other 3 into place and take charge would make a world of difference

2.) 11 Sep 2017 08:15:39
You are so right but been saying it all along, good luck with the response.

3.) 11 Sep 2017 09:37:29
I understand the reasoning behind playing the ball out from the back (If you hoof it then the vast majority of the time the ball goes to the opposition) but can we just play it forward quicker from the back in the same way that Liverpool do? 3 passes out and the ball should not be near the Penalty Area it should be near the half way line (unless we are playing against Beckham then it is doubtful that the opponents can shoot from there)

4.) 11 Sep 2017 12:07:29
We have to be able to mix the way we play, yes playing from the back and possession football is easy on the eye but not if we lose the ball and concede goals. As a defender, if in doubt get it out, better decision making against Leeds and S.Weds may have yielded an extra point or two. I agree about moving the ball quicker too, the longer we take the more time the opposition has to arrange their defence. Problem for Smith is this exposes his poor distribution, time to take him out of the firing line and give us the option of breaking quickly. This style would suit away games and against the better sides at home, just a realistic opinion based on our mid table expectations? FTID

5.) 11 Sep 2017 12:55:59
we don't look well drilled to me, set peices need to be drilled and drilled, and for me need to start marking more man to man instead of more zonal.

beyond me why a steady defender lichaj isn't starting, darikwa a liability to me.

6.) 11 Sep 2017 16:27:16
I'd like to see this defence given time to gel
Licha Manchienne Hobbs/worrell troare
Hobbs if he's fit. Then Vaughen bridgcutt holding
With Mackey dowel osbourn. And Murphy upfront.

7.) 11 Sep 2017 20:04:00
Playing the ball out the way we do, which is giving it to the first defender is suicide. That defender should then knock it it deep into midfield. No we lass it sideways which allows the opposition to get at us causing nervousness. Playing it long to a decent striker ie murphy or velios allows the defence tobpysh up and get bsck in formation. Simples. If the ball does come straight back we shouldbe organised to deal with it. Playing it out from the back is pk in the prem where the opposition strikers will back off. not in this league.

8.) 11 Sep 2017 20:24:29
Rr1. The longer you pass the ball the more likely it is to be intercepted, or for it to go astray. A player should run then pass, then move again, and off course a players pass needs to be accurate.

9.) 11 Sep 2017 21:43:56
Abf correct but we gave possesion to weds in dreadful areas which led to goals. Listen. Pearce would often take the ball from sutton, webb ot hodge would show for him and an early accurate pass from pearce would get us moving forward. Not this pish from sat where the ball was nervously batted about with no conviction. Play to your strengths. Fox worral and darikwa were terrified in posession.

10.) 13 Sep 2017 10:01:41
We certainly need to sort out the back. I personally think Darikwa is a decent solid back, i can remember the beginning of the last two seasons fans saying Lichaj was a liability when we were leaking goals. Keep Darikwa on the right, Lichaj can play on the right with Mancienne and another in the middle, Worral or Fox.

11.) 13 Sep 2017 10:08:33
Ooops, I meant Lichaj can play on the left!

07 Mar 2017 23:51:29
We're stuck with GB until the end of the season and hopefully there's 3 teams worse than us. GB has done brilliantly with the youth set up but doesn't have the tactical nous at this level. His one tactic is to set up a hard working team who are happy to let the opposition have the ball and hope that we can hold out for an hour then nick a goal. This worked against Brighton and got us a point against Wigan. I expect much the same against Burton. The frustrating thing is that we are much better when we go on the attack which doesn't usually happen until we're chasing the game. I would like to see us have a go from the off and play with a high tempo and some pace out wide, particularly at home. Make no mistake we are in a relegation battle and I can see it going right to the wire this season. Fingers crossed we have enough to stay up.

passtheball

1.) 08 Mar 2017 07:40:38
We have a five point cushion, that does not mean we do not have to worry to some extent, but the reason any team is in, or around the relegation struggle is because they are drawing, and losing too many games.

All the teams below us would love to be where we are, with a five point cushion. As long as it is in our own hands we are ok to think about Championship football next season.

2.) 08 Mar 2017 10:35:24
Tomorrow mate, that "cushion" will soon evaporate if we get beat and all of a sudden it can be potentially 2! We don't have the balls for a fight, and Brazil's not the guy. Never was, when he takes over its up and down. Mostly down.

3.) 08 Mar 2017 11:07:32
Rogie Red

Im not trying to say Brazil is right for the job, and off course the 5 point lead could easily evaporate but the bottom three teams do not have that luxury, so when they lose they get deeper in the mire unless others slip up.

I would rather have the 5 point lead than not.

4.) 08 Mar 2017 12:55:08
When GB and JL took over, we had played 26 games and had 27 points, obviously a fraction over 1 point per game.

Since then, we have played 10 and have picked up 13 points, that's 1.3 points.

We were 20th, we are now 18th.

We were 3 points above the bottom 3, we are now 5.

Now I'm not saying that no one else could have done better than that. But I am saying.

1. Under GB and JL we are moving away from relegation, not towards it (I'll add the caveat of CURRENTLY)
2. Anyone that could do a better job, doesn't want the job, at least until they know what division we are in next season!

So, we live with what we have and be grateful for it!

5.) 08 Mar 2017 14:29:33
If we continually play a slow, unfit Britt, up front on his own. We will definitely be outscored. Leading us further down the league, into a relegation scrap, let's take the game TO the opposition! And stop showing THEM, too much respect! The only way we will get out of this message is to play our pacey players, "Hilda"and The lad we got from Chesterfield. from back to front, we must have one of the slowest teams in this league, and I think opposing teams know this. And exploit this weakness, week in week out!

6.) 08 Mar 2017 19:51:19
We have skill and pace in Clough, Brereton and Ariyibi. Play all 3 and opposition defences will not cope.

7.) 08 Mar 2017 21:42:25
Agreed mate. When they aren't playing we are a slow as a wet weekend!

2.) 06 Mar 2017 23:22:12
There is a God! Absolutely useless, good luck Rosenborg!

3.) 06 Mar 2017 23:40:10
Thank you Mr Bendtner for your contribution. Had we had a stronger midfield this season playing you up top with another striker would have got the best out you and the team.

For me you have nothing to prove just the right type of player at the wrong time! Good Luck.

4.) 07 Mar 2017 08:21:41
possibly the laziest player i've ever seen in a Forest shirt. Good riddance.

5.) 07 Mar 2017 08:30:33
I hope that's McParland getting rid of the crocs. Dumitru and Kasami next please.

6.) 07 Mar 2017 10:21:50
Both Dumitri and Kashmir on season long loans. No chance of getting rid of them.

7.) 07 Mar 2017 10:25:46
Great to have him off the wage bill, even better if we managed to get a small fee for him too.

8.) 07 Mar 2017 12:45:15
Dont think Bendtner was ever the man for an ailing lower Championship club famous for its inability to create scoring chances, lack of width and supporting central midfield.

That said, we have a 17 year old striker who's putting Bendtners application levels to shame. Lack of service is a genuine gripe, but the fact he didn't move or try something different to influence the game sticks in the throat given his pedigree.

He's better off somewhere else for all concerned.

9.) 07 Mar 2017 14:20:34
Cjay

That makes it a great effort to have beaten Brighton 3-0 in our last game, what score could it have been had we a strong midfield that could supply our forwards.

10.) 07 Mar 2017 14:57:30
The Brighton result was primarily a case of us knocking Brighton off their stride. A victory for hard work, endeavour and capitalising on Brightons mistakes.

There was no great footballing philosophy behind it from memory.

11.) 08 Mar 2017 09:01:18
Britt has one shot in 75 minutes against Brentford. Brereton comes on and scores almost straight away - that should tell the management something.

12.) 09 Mar 2017 06:54:33
you can only shoot when you get service in box, it isn't happening. Ward, Osborne Vaughan don't supply enough good balls into box.
Solution don't pay both Ward and Osborne too similar too lightweight.

17 Jan 2017 18:08:29
At the risk of stating the obvious it truly is grim times at our once great club. I was no fan of PM and although he had his hands tied, he made some very poor decisions and team selections.

however, we must currently be one of the least attractive managerial options out there with an owner nobody with any sense would want to work with. It means we'll end up with a manager who will turn out to be no better than what we've already had.

Add the fact we've no money to spend, all the good loan options will have been snapped up by the time we appoint a new manager and the very real likelihood we'll sell one of our better players on deadline day, with no time to replace them, so I struggle to see how we can avoid relegation.

I will support whoever the manager turns out to be but I can't help but fear the worst.

1.) 17 Jan 2017 19:16:41
Just bite the bullet and see if Jack Lester wants the job. Everybody needs to start somewhere and at least he knows what a clown of a bloke he's working for. On the upside he also knows how good some of his youngsters are. What do we have to lose?

2.) 17 Jan 2017 19:22:00
I think we will get Phelan. Normally I wouldn't be excited about him but in the position we are in I think he is the best we can hope for. At least he knows about working with bad owners.

3.) 17 Jan 2017 21:16:29
Yes he, d reamily got it on him on the cobbles, just the sort of. Nasty side we need! CARLO

4.) 17 Jan 2017 23:18:55
Mike Phelan, god no awful Manager only one way if Fawaz appoints him that is League 1. Only one man for this job and love him or hate him and that is Billy.

I would have been happy with a point against the bottom club before we'd even kicked off yesterday. That in itself shows how low our expectations have fallen. Under MW we knew we'd probably need to score at least 2 goals to win a game, under AK we will probably need to keep a clean sheet just to get a point. 10 players bought in and we're still playing a right back at left back. The biggest concern is the lack of a goal threat which I don't see improving and the decision to let Cummings and Walker go without bringing in a replacement still baffles me. I have never been one for sacking managers and to be clear I'm not saying get rid of AK but I just don't share some of the optimism in him that some fans do. I think they get hung up on the fact he got Boro promoted but we've had managers in the past that have had success at other clubs but they haven't worked out for us. I think we'll probably just stay up as there's 3 or 4 teams worse than us but even given time I can't see this fella getting us anywhere near promotion. Hope I'm wrong and he shows a bit more attacking flair once we're safe but in the meantime we just all need to get behind him and the team and make sure we're still in this division next season.

1.) 18 Feb 2018 11:14:05
That sounds about right to me passtheball

2.) 18 Feb 2018 12:03:25
Pass the ball, bang on about we’ve had others that have done it. Megson, the deranged Scot and the dour Scot. It’s not a transferable outcome sadly.

I agree that we could score under MW but that the goals were drying up which is what I think did for him. The two limp home performances against weds and Sunderland did for him. If he’d have just one one of them or drawn them both I think he’d have survived.

I actually think we’ve got the same amount of points that we’d have got under MW. So no improvement in outcomes at all and even more painful to watch I think.

3.) 18 Feb 2018 12:30:46
I agree with all of you and have said right from the start i do not like Karanka tactics.
The only way he will survive long term is to change, most fans who sit around me aren't impressed either.
Unfortunately we all know he won't change.
To me he should have kept traore walker Cummings and clough.
Watson geddy and colback plus Lolly ok signings and he had to bring in centre back so ok with that.
The others are a waste and unfit and in the end we are down to the bare bones both up front and in defense while having far too many midfielders who aren't creative or can score.
Think we all need him to succeed but think it's more in hope than any concrete evidence.

4.) 18 Feb 2018 12:37:53
He brought in a lb but need to get him match ready.

5.) 18 Feb 2018 15:23:41
I,ve said it and said L/B should have been his priority not just an after thought.
If you look back over the last 20 years the good runs we,ve had have all been when we,ve had a PROPER left back eg. Shorrey, Bartram ,Cunningham ,ect ,the bad times have been like yesterday ,a man playing out of position.
Let's hope this latest late signing proves to be a real L/B

05 Nov 2017 14:53:05
Excellent performance yesterday once we had scored the first goal. Whilst he wasn't the best player on the pitch yesterday I think we look a much better side with Murphy leading the line, Cummins is too small and lightweight to play that role and when Murphy is not available we would be better playing Vellios or Brereton in that position.

passtheball

1.) 05 Nov 2017 15:43:26
If I’m honest I can’t see Vellios playing for us again. Cummings is a good player but will primarily be used on the wings to do what Walker did yesterday. Brereton could be the best cover for Murphy we have.

I just want to mention Osborn, I’m not usually a big fan as I got frustrated with him a few times but yesterday he deserved a goal and in my opinion was the best player.

2.) 05 Nov 2017 17:54:06
Yes it does look like Vellios is finished but the question is why?
I see he was out on the pitch yesterday shooting in very strange !

3.) 05 Nov 2017 20:18:50
This just a bit of banter carlo, but with your inside imformation regarding Britt,I would have thought your contacts could let you know what's going on with Vellios?

Who's vellios lol think all the players had a good game yesterday teamwork at last

15 Oct 2017 19:35:44
We've tried numerous different combinations in defence but still we keep conceding soft goals. Not all the blame should be put on the defenders, all too often when we lose possession our midfield seems empty and the opposition have a clear run on our defence. I know I'm in a minority but I think Dowell is a luxury player at the moment and we would be better with Osborn in that position. Despite the soft goals I think we were unlucky to lose today. We played well in patches but didn't put our chances away. Derby offered very little but put their chances away. I think we all need to keep positive.

passtheball

24 Sep 2017 12:21:21
I for one hope we continue trying to play the ball on the floor and don't resort to playing hoofball. Yes we probably do need to mix it up a little bit more but some of the stuffed we played yesterday, particularly down the left hand side with Traore linking up was a delight to watch. We deserved at least a point yesterday, probably all 3 but yet again individual errors have cost us. Darwikra was looking along the line and should have just stayed with his man instead of stepping up trying to catch him offside (how he keeps Lichaj out of the team baffles me) and then Brereton made his only meaningful contribution to the game and gave away a stupid fee kick. Those 2 instances aside and Smith has barely had a save to make. I think MW just needs to tweak his tactics a little and we would pose more of a threat by playing a proper wide man on the right instead of Brereton and the free role given to Dowell or Clough just behind Murphy is not working either, neither have contributed enough and I think we would be better served by playing another striker with a bit more mobility to support Murphy.

passtheball

1.) 24 Sep 2017 12:53:09
Agree but do you not see the pattern that warbs is one dimensional, play from the back at all costs. The ball ends up back at smith who then has to hoof it so why not just hoof it in the first place and take the pressure off. Stevie wonder can see that brereton brings nothing to the table so why does warbs clntinue to play him???? Clough getting taken off so early agajnst weds has destroyed him. He and bridcutt not the players they were at their previoys clubs. But some fine tuning and more of a gial threat should kickstart us.

Thats where we go wrong when selling our players. You can't stop players leaving for premier league clubs but we should be stronger when negotiating and insist on clauses in the deal such as international caps, premier league appearances etc and definitely a sell on clause.

Some of those comments are extremely naive. We only kept a clean sheet because Millwall's finishing was poor. Warburton admitted they should have got something from the game. Having said that I like the positive approach that it looks like we'll be taking into games but he needs to learn quickly that you need more balance in midfield if you want to win games.

I think going to 3 at the back with 2 holding midfielders would allow our attacking players more freedom whilst also giving some protection to the defence.

Don't understand the love for Velios. He's a very limited player with absolutely no pace. Could only see him working if we play 2 up front so someone can run off him. To me he's a squad player who you throw on when you're chasing a game. We really could do with signing a proven goalscorer to replace Britts goals but I have absolutely no idea who that could be.

Stats can hide a lot of things. He may well have stats of 50 per cent forward but that doesn't show how difficult or creative the pass was. The goalkeeper probably has a near 100 per cent forward pass rate but it doesn't make him the next iniesta!

Spot on Carlo. It's quality not quantity that we needed. I think most fans would agree that we needed an experienced vocal centre back, a combative ball winning midfielder, a left back and a goalscorer. We've got the midfielders (probably too many) but we've then got a young foreign centre back who's never played over here, a giant keeper who looks no more commanding than Smith.

Judgment reserved on the left back but again he's never played in England. The lack of a proven goalscorer and the decision to let Cummins and Walker leave when they could be options off the bench may prove costly. I hope I'm wrong but yet again we face a nervy ending to our season.
