I went to the game against Ipswich so this is my take on it: up until they scored both teams played the same kind of football and looked indistinguishable. We almost got caught out at the beginning of the second half when they came at us - if we had let another goal in then that would have been curtains.
Figuerido was outstanding and so was Fox, they saved us when the DMs could not. Watson had a bad day and nothing he did went right; the team played much better with more fluidity as soon as Bridcutt came on and he seemed to life the side. Colback looked clumsy, and though Guediora tried hard he did not have the pace - Cash should have been on earlier, but did little when he did come on.
The goal was not Osborn's fault, and I think he had an outstanding game. For long periods he stood alone out on the left wing and it took usually two passes to get to him and consequently Ipswich had time to cover him. To my knowledge Darikwa only once tried to get past their left back, and his approach play lacked any form of speed or guile - Cash didn't help him much when he came on. Pants didn't have too much to do but let the players know what he wanted them to do and shouted lots of encouragement. Lolley was the best player on the park, prepared to run at the defence and his goal capped a brilliant performance. Tomlin ambled about and fell over his own feet a lot - Osborn would have been much better in that position with pace to get into the defenders. Brereton worked very hard with little or no support, but the goal will give him encouragement and he made Lolley's goal, so early but hopeful days from him. Vellios looked weak and did not bustle or put himself about at all, he seems too gentle a lad to cope with Championship defenders.
Get in a good left back with some height and put BennyO behind the BrenGun and we'll have a much better team. It won't need a lot to make us more effective next season so we can get into the top Ten. If Cash can improve on the right hand side we will be more effective. From what I've seen and heard lately Dowell has blown his gaff so I wouldn't expect much more from him. I'd like us to give Cardiff a shock and steal a point, Barnsley and Bolton we can beat if we turn up.
It took us 84 minutes to turn up this weekend and the players realised the fans were drifting off after seeing another pedestrian performance. Funny how they all rushed back to the gap at the Trent end once they heard the big roar, the police and stewards holding them back! It's not over till it's over!

Absolutely spot on bsered I agree with all of this. We have an excellent manager who has used what he was able to obtain in January and used those resources well to rescue us. Ben B, Osborne & Cash are or will be very important to our club . Fox and Fig played well but I still worry that the defence is somehow not right even with Colback and Watson in front still we seem to leak goals but I am not sure of the solution. let's hope against Cardiff we play to win the game and infact end the season un beaten in 5 ! Also never leave a match until the 'fat lady blows that whistle'

15 Apr 2018 21:40:04
Quality fullbacks are a must for next season bsered. They make a massive difference at both ends of the pitch.I also think it would be a bad move to blow the budget for Colback. If he wants to join on massively reduced terms and a sensible transfer fee great if not I'd be happy to give Bridcutt or Guedioura a go.Brereton needs to be used off the bench at the right times supplementing a couple of new strikers to continue his development.I actually fancy us to win a couple of the last 4 games.

15 Apr 2018 21:54:19
It's always amazed me over the years, even when we were winning everything how people leave with 10 mins to go,just to get to their cars and make a quick exit?
It's like watching a film and missing what happened or disappointing the missus and nodding off.

{Ed003's Note - that reminds me, how is Mrs Forest79 ? }

15 Apr 2018 22:12:52
Doing fine edd or Blondie as we affectionately call her has come through her opp very well and is "out of the woods" and back on form.😉😉

{Ed003's Note - great stuff, all the best.}

15 Apr 2018 22:23:05
Cheers edd was worrying times, but took plenty of time off to look after her, business is up and running again, health before profit.

15 Apr 2018 22:30:47
Excellent news 79 👍

15 Apr 2018 22:31:19
I’d be happy to see darikwa and lichaj go and get Gunger back who should never have been sold in the first place. Best rightback for years

15 Apr 2018 22:43:43
Cheers perks knew you loved me really.
Don't be too nice though spoil the banter?.😀😀

16 Apr 2018 03:34:29
You know it's only footy bants end of the day.Fellow Reds fans stick together when it really matters.

15 Apr 2018 17:30:19
Now we are safe how about we field our reserve team against Barnsley? I’m Sure Birmingham will understand and accept it as the swings and roundabouts of championship football.

15 Apr 2018 17:58:02
2 star now were safe there is one thing that could put the icing on the cake and that would be the sheep not to make the playoffs, preferably by goal difference,What a killer blow that would be for them. 😀😀😀

15 Apr 2018 18:10:34
Lol! Stop pretending not to be a derby fan you’re not fooling me!
I reckon Barnsley will do them for sure on the last game. Thought it for weeks when I looked at our run in and those around us. Is it right derby have Villa, Boro and a very revved up revengeful Cardiff too?

15 Apr 2018 18:34:32
I'll take your word for it on their run in.
You seem to know more than me on that one😁😁

15 Apr 2018 19:12:59
Can you check the fixture list for me ? You should have one with your season card 💪😂

15 Apr 2018 21:04:27
My favourite derby player is Keogh absolute forest legend.😭😭😀😀

15 Apr 2018 21:21:45
Went to my local shop Today. Sheep(woman) fan works there . She has been giving me stick all season. Unusually quiet today.I wonder why.Needless to say I was reasonably vocal much to the amusement of the people queuing behind me.COYRs

15 Apr 2018 21:49:06
Are you sure it's a women under all that fur?
Be careful you might get yourself "Bahhhhd" 😂😂😂😂

15 Apr 2018 22:32:32
Lol Keogh actually looks like a sheep - honestly if you stuck that face in sheeps body ?

15 Apr 2018 22:48:02
Behave someone tried that before and that's what it came out like, could have suffocated?😂😂😂

16 Apr 2018 21:27:25
F79 I can now confirm it's a woman at the shop. She's called ewenice😏

15 Apr 2018 17:17:02
Scored one, maade one in a two one victory and still gets stick from some so called Forest fans. Yes, young Brereton must wonder what else he can do. Eighteen in the fifth toughest league against seasoned pros who also outnumber the lad two to one because of our one up front system. He was almost ruined by Warburton out wide and to much is expected of him now by AK. A couple of years down the line this youngster will be very close to the real deal if he is managed properly, ie selected games and impact sub. It is a real cheap shot to blame Ben for Forests current goalscoring woes. Perhaps looking back, if Warburton had spent the two million plus much better than he wasted on Murphy and another million on Cummings we would not have been in this mess and blaming a teenager. Stick with it BB and take no notice of the critics, I look forward to you making them eat there words in the not to distant future. And as a man in agreen sweatshirt would have said, well done young man.

15 Apr 2018 17:58:21
Do you think Murphy will play for us again?😐

15 Apr 2018 18:11:47
Hope not. Warburton. Can pay for his one way ticket back to Rogie land . Ayup Rogie why don’t you come over and pick him up?

15 Apr 2018 12:15:23
Anyone else agree it’s time to move Osborn from left back? He looked at fault for the goal ?? Is that fair? A pitiful goal to concede.

Agree2 Disagree2

15 Apr 2018 13:49:52
Am in total agreement 2star. Surely Eric or Fuentes must be worth a go especially now. Give him a go at LM.Nothing to lose now .Am also wondering about Boukalkis and Hobbs at some point.

15 Apr 2018 15:07:19
Ditto. I think he has done sterling work at left back but I was under the impression it was a temporary measure pending Fuentes getting some semblance of fitness but seems to be a bit quiet on that front

15 Apr 2018 17:15:31
Think Osborn is worth a place in the team - just no more left back please

15 Apr 2018 11:20:20
Glad our dredful run come to an end .
The reason our form as been so poor IMO is the signing of 10 players in Jan.
After beating Wolves the maximum number of signings should have been 4 ,that's more than enough to blend in at one go ?
To sign 10 was totally disproportionate and if the 3at the bottom wern,t so poor it would have cost us.
I hope common sense returns over the summer!

15 Apr 2018 12:08:18
Carlo , you obviously didn’t go to the Preston game then? Fair enough you’re saying it as you are seeing but any manager worth his salt would have reacted and maybe overreacted to that performance. The team that MW put together was s***. The team that AK has put together is dull and lacks any firepower, his main failing is to not address the fire power.

15 Apr 2018 15:31:01
Yes I did go to the PNE game but 10 signings in Jan ,must another record that AK has broken along with the new longest without a goal record he now holds !
CARLO

15 Apr 2018 15:33:57
On the money their 2 star i to was at the preston game the worse performance i have seen in many a year and their have been plenty ak was dead right to get in new players and in the summer hope he gets rid of more players i'm going to bide my time about renewing my season card to see if their will be quality bought in.

15 Apr 2018 17:17:28
Managers can’t win if he or any manager hasn’t addressed our s*** team in Jan we’d have all kicked off. At least he tried.

15 Apr 2018 18:48:54
Ok Carlo you keep burying your head and pretend we were decent before the change of manager.Im sure AK has said he only planned on signing 4/5 players then saw how fragile, weak and spineless we were.

15 Apr 2018 22:09:43
We did need signings but not 10 !
Since Jan our point collecting and goal scoring have not improved ,fact !
Fiquerio, Watson ,one keeper and Lolley would have more than done the job !
The other 6 have just added to the wage bill and blocked our own players progress !
CARLO

15 Apr 2018 22:42:26
And say the keeper got injured or Osborn got injured ? It’s not like history affords is the confidence to ride our luck with injuries is it?
AK saw enough to conclude that Worral, Mills, Ward, Cummings, clough, Walker, Traore and Smith weren’t what he wanted. Vaughan, Hobbs and bridcutt injured or suspended. McKay Murphy and vellios - he wasn’t sure, but suspected they weren’t interested. In this case what did you expect him to do?

It’s in his nature to be cautious, that doesn’t mean he got everything right but it does mean he has convictions that he stuck with - which in my eyes is credible.

Those players were a disgrace from December onwards and got warburton the sack - not as some claim, the fans as most of them wanted the chap to succeed. As we are seeing with MW the players, and whether they can be bothered or not, determine how well a manager does

15 Apr 2018 22:45:46
Oh and PS had we not have made plenty of signings we’d have been subjected to Dowell every game as well. Very grateful of his early goals but should have been dispatched back to Everton in January.

15 Apr 2018 08:55:38
I think we need to buy 3 strikers in the summer as a priority. That way we could send Brereton out on loan to a League 1 side till maybe Christmas to boost his confidence. Maybe send Forest79 out on loan to D*rby as well until the summer of 2030. ;)

PC 76, I couldn’t go yesterday sadly, my brother gave me a damning report of B.B. however, the highlights show a different story and he looked like he’s developing some attributes. Great cross for the goal, let’s give the lad some credit. I’ve been beating the drum that he’s not ready (not that he’s not good enough) but not ready for a while now . I’m quite happy to be proved wrong, I think he served us a bit of pie yesterday to be fair. Irrespective of that through we need new striking blood for next year.

15 Apr 2018 13:46:03
I've always said he is a sheep 🐑

15 Apr 2018 13:52:47
I think we should have a poll on this post?

{Ed033's Note - If people want a poll, we need a question and options to choose from.

15 Apr 2018 14:13:15
Im a sheep?
Your having a laugh.
Been to more games than some of you put together.
Clifton born and went to school with Viv.
Red through and through.

15 Apr 2018 15:50:29
There can be no doubt that Brererton has all the attributes to become a very useful striker but I think this season he has gone backwards from the player I saw at the back end of last season when let's be fair we were under more pressure re relegation than this one.

I thought once again he did not have a particularly good game yesterday but he was not alone in what was a pretty tepid performance.

HOWEVER I sit in the trent end lower and the look on his face and the glint in his eye when he snatched up the ball for the penalty spoke volumes.
Nobody and nobody and his army was taking that penalty and his joy and relief at scoring was palpable and I think far far more important for him moving forward than for us fans waiting to see a goal.
If he had fluffed that then I think he may have taken a long long time to recover from it and kudos to him for having the b###s to do it.

We can't keep saying " he's only 18 he's only 19 " aznd next season will be pivotal when hopefully he will be playing alongside better forwards with less pressure on him as the mostly lone frontman.

I would not loan him out because he's been blooded at this level and has immense potential BUT please stop this ridiculous diving as witnessed yesterday for which he was rightly booked.

Whilst I am on I feel obliged to have my say on forest79 with whom I have bantered with on here over the months and our opinions are shall we say are a little diverse but mine are mine and his are his and he never wavers from them and at times are difficult to argue with .

A sheep ???.

Not for my money just a passionate fan with views different to probably most but similar to some on a website dedicated to banter, opinions and individuals views :)

15 Apr 2018 15:53:04
you went to school with viv ? is that the same as delboys cricket bat that was signed by viv richards

15 Apr 2018 16:17:26
Anderson Peter wells the goalkeeper Dave Mcvay of Notts and post.
They won the English schools trophy, another was Glyn Saunders who was also at forest but didn't make the first team.

15 Apr 2018 17:20:12
Wolf and sheeps clothing are you FF? You wyly old trickster you!

15 Apr 2018 17:53:30
2 star like creepy said the only reason this site exists is because we have different opinions,I just say it how I see it as does everyone else.
I enjoy the banter and sometimes there's a little devilment in there just to get a reaction and a thread going.
I love my football and nffc with a passion booked my seat with the lads for a great end of season bash at Bolton.
Now we're safe I'll let the owners decide the best way forward,If it is Karanka then so be it and I hope he can make us a force again.
Anyway like I say keep up the banter on here it's great fun.
Don't expect me to change though😁😁😁

15 Apr 2018 18:13:53
You won’t ever hear me asking you to change your posts pal. Keep em coming.

15 Apr 2018 18:16:26
If not AK who? I don’t think we will find it has hard to recruit now FAH is gone. AK is probably worth a punt next season bet you old evangelos ain’t happy with how it’s gone though you know.

15 Apr 2018 18:55:45
I think he just about saved his job yesterday and will be given a chance, but was sailing very close to the wind.
Now safety is assured be nice to see the Greek lad given a go in goal and maybe a bit more attack minded play.
Like to see colback dispensed with as he won't be here next season and tomlin and Dowell, give the players under contract the last four games.
Be interesting how much money will be available and who can be sold on,that could be the biggest problem, the squad is simply too large as it stands.

15 Apr 2018 19:16:30
I agree, I like Colback but don’t like him and Watson , it’s one or the other with bridcutt or Osborn. Neither will want to sit it out will they? Since we’ve signed Watson full time he’s obviously staying put.

15 Apr 2018 19:58:55
He's the new McKenna and rightly captain, colback is a good player but his wages would be an issue and we already have Bridcutt and geddy.
Need a box tox and a goalscorer in midfield with younger legs.

A mighty oak from the acorn does grow ! Bye the way Stokey is B.B. related to the M.P.for Stoke who is also called Brereton I think ? ?

15 Apr 2018 23:59:59
Don't think so Sgetty,Brereton the MP is a 26 year old posh boy but I could be wrong!

14 Apr 2018 21:59:34
As the 84th minute came and went this current team/squad became the most barren in the history of the club and quite frankly I again could not see a goal coming.

10 crazy minutes later and the game had turned on its head and the win we were thinking would never come was in the bag.
In the world of ifs and buts how different the tone of posts on here may have been because frankly , and in My opinion, a lot of our play today was simply not good enough.

I am not an advocate of constant managerial changes and remain firm in that belief but I think that if we had lost today allied to the appalling new all time “ record “ we set today that the owner May well have started getting very very twitchy as I gather he is not an overly patient man.

It may be an exaggeration to say that those two goals papered over gaping cracks but I think they certainly gave the manager some much needed breathing space .

In his after match interview he intimated that he intends drastic changes to the squad in the summer and I hope this means a lot of deadwood and loanees out and proper quality signed and contracted players in to allow him to build a side he thinks is good enough to achieve his goals.

For me a top 10 finish and a decent cup run would represent a massive step forward from the past few seasons of struggle and underachievement. Obviously promotion must be the ultimate aim but I will be happy with small positive steps forward from let’s be honest the wreckage of the last few years.

Is mr Karanka the man to do it is the 64000 dollar question and I have to put my faith in him as I had to with mr warburton and those before him because I have no choice in the matter and this is my club and NO manager has ever been nor will be as big a supporter of NFFC as I and all of you have, are and always will be.

So as always keep the faith argue, moan, bicker, complain, thumbs up,thumbs down on here because we care and

The thing that encourages me most is the permanent signings he has made are the best signings others were an attempt at a quick fix ie the loans I think karanka could made some excellent signings with a whole summer instead of just 2 weeks mid season
