Steve Cotterill is ready to cash in on £1.5million-rated playmaker Lewis McGugan to save Nottingham Forest from relegation.

Forest have failed in a bid to bring Cardiff striker Robert Earnshaw back to the City Ground in a swap deal.

Boss Cotterill now accepts 23-year-old McGugan must be sold next month to help fund the search for a genuine goalscorer.

"We are not full of goals and that is a problem for any team," admitted Cotterill.

Forest in big trouble! having to depend on selling McGugan to find a striker! he was our top scorer last season, put Bamford up front with Dex, keep McGugan

Yh but hes been awful this season, too much of a luxury to keep him when we need defensive cover and a striker than can score goals consistently.

id get rid of mcgoldrick and derbyshire as well

Surely 1.5 million is too cheap ?

I think we shud swap chambo instead earnshaw great player and goal i dont no about now but in the summer they wanted chambers didnt they so possibley an option

3-5 mill is about rite 1.5 is a giveaway...if he goes for that we are stupid

Think about it - McGugan is a bit-part player for a Championship team and hasn't got a huge contract. 1.5m is a fair price in the current market, however much we would like to get 5m for him!
Would Earnie returning do us any good? We'd presumably have to pay the same wages as we couldn't afford earlier in the year and he was hardly a great goalscorer in recent seasons with his injuries and mixed form. I'd have thought it better to raid the lower leagues for a hungry young striker or give Bamford a chance. If nothing else, it may shake up the current group of players.

3-5 million? i wish they had appropriate smileys on here.

you should take some economics classes mate.

Anyone who thinks McGugan is worth 5mil is kidding themselves. just think about this, over the last 3 season his form has gone up and down like a hookers underwear.
2009- was 2nd choice to Radi
2010-was in great form for about 10 games- a season is over 40 games not 10, yes was scored the most goals but last season Earnie only got 8 9 (i think)
2011-this has been a very poor season from our so called best player. teams will bid for him on his current form and to be honest 1.5 is about right.

lets just stop looking at this through rose tinted glasses-lewis is not the player we or he think he is. we all really want him to be great, but we want him to be a good player for more then 3 games at a time.

also teams know we need to sell so they wont come in with this huge offer anyway. for the sake of NFFC and Lewis we need to sell him along with a few others to get some freash blood in to get this team moving again. if we sell Lewis and we stop in this division then its a bood move
