The mirror seem to think Hoddle is in the driving seat now:

'Glenn Hoddle is weighing up whether to end his six-year exile from English management and take over as new Nottingham Forest boss.

The former England coach has promised Forest's new Kuwaiti owners a decision in the next 48 hours after being offered the chance to replace Steve Cottrill'

Full story on their website under 'Hodd Squad'

My feelings on Hoddle are abit neutral, 6 years out is a long time.

Rigby84

Believable9 Unbelievable0

Seen this too hoddle been offered the job and could be installed as manager before the end of the week!

Agree1 Disagree2

Let"s hope he brings some Diamond Lights!

Agree5 Disagree1

I really hope it's not Hoddle!
In our position we need a manager that 'hits the ground running'. Hoddle's been out of football for 6 years and he doesn't know the Championship. For me it's got to be Billy or Curbishley.

Agree7 Disagree4

Hoddle will be bad news, just like my friend whose just told me that our basketball Olympic tickets are to the women's.... Turkish women's!

Agree5 Disagree4

Hoddle has been running his own football academy so hardly been out of the game

Agree4 Disagree1

Hoddle could be one of two things, absolutely amazing and become or legend or make the Wally with the brolly look like mourinho. I don't think there will be any middle ground.

Agree3 Disagree0

I don't think he'd get a better offer than this

Agree1 Disagree0

Will this be the second failed england manager we take on? We want a tiger in the tank. Someone hungry for success - still think billy was just that. At Lear he was passionate about forest - don't rate. Hoddle poddle

Agree3 Disagree1

decision should be made tomorrow about a new manager.

Believable2 Unbelievable3

It should have been made today! But to be fair they said 3-4 days.

Agree0 Disagree0

3 candidates being interviewed apparently. Decision tomorrow.

Agree0 Disagree3

Going to be Hoddle

Looking all over Forest pages and fans forums the lastest manager to be named in the frame is Neil Warnock...Just a rumour however Agree/Disagree it's upto you, not my cup of tea though!
Glenn

Believable1 Unbelievable12

Neil warnock is not coming to forest! in a recent interview with ssn his son asked him to stay put at leeds

Agree5 Disagree3

Like I said just a rumour, I still want BD but that ain't going to happen either...Hoddle I would give him my backing anyone deserves a chance right.
Glenn

Agree4 Disagree4

He won't be your cup of tea because he's leeds cup of tea and wont be coming to forest! {Ed034's Note - good

Al Hawasi will complete meetings with managers tomorrow,so will everyone please calm down, it a NEW era for the club

Believable9 Unbelievable3

Tomorrow seems to be bandied about a lot, as i have said before you do know that it never comes

Agree2 Disagree2

Don't think we'll hear tomorrow, should hear Thursday. Expect to also hear of more Kuwaiti players coming in on trial.

Agree2 Disagree1

Just a little note for everyone. Any posts which have any sort if odds on, has to be deleted. Sorry but thems the rules.
Also any posts that contain any swear word or any that are just bring abusive, will also be deleted.
Oh and to the guy who said I am only here to moderate posts, your very wrong my friend. I will carry on giving my opinion and if you do not like the fact I do this, you are in the bad luck club.
Thanks for all the input over the last few weeks and even though we all do not always agree, i genuinely enjoy reading and adding the posts. {Ed034's Note - the above was from me

Believable10 Unbelievable3

Good on ya Ed

Agree6 Disagree1

Well in ed

Agree6 Disagree2

Well said Mr Ed.
IERM

Agree3 Disagree1

Appreciate it Ed

512

Agree3 Disagree1

Well said ed. There really are some moron's around.

Agree3 Disagree1

Totally agree Ed.
Keep up the good work.

Agree4 Disagree2

Ed for Manager?

Agree6 Disagree1

Ed gets my vote for the managers position with King Billy as number 2!! {Ed034's Note - Think is rather have my wife. She could just give them 'the look' when playing poorly. They'll soon buck there ideas up

Agree3 Disagree2

Stuff that, PM more like!

Agree1 Disagree3

Top Man - very fair and well balanced comments from our Ed!

Agree2 Disagree1

Before Saturday.Great communication coming through from new owners.Saturday,Brilliant day.All positive, new owners give totally to a great future & really a new era of being upfront, telling the fans what is happening, organised in the future of the club.Since then,it seems back to normal.Really thought things had happened in the background & once the takeover was official,we would see new Manager & signings in place.I do have faith, but really hope now we do not plump for a Hoddle or Sven, who clearly are has, never beens.Except in the world they live.Curbishley for me.Or Pearce & Mcparland partnership.Great work Ed.

Agree1 Disagree2

The club would be unwise to give names of interviewees or any players on the radar. Have faith and wait and see. You may be pleasantly surprised. We need a manger and players looking for long term rewards rather than a quick buck. We don't need another Platt era.

Agree4 Disagree1

I know time is of the essence here - but I would much rather they take time and get the right man rather than rush and appoint any old pleb. It has only been 2 working days since the City Ground event!

Agree2 Disagree0

No defenders and no manager, tell me you're not getting a little bit worried? Dan T. {Ed034's Note - I pity the fool that gets mad

Believable9 Unbelievable5

I have no problem with the time its taking.

I would rather have the right manager in a few days time than the wrong manager tomorrow!!

Agree9 Disagree3

We should only get worried if Clough gets the job, which I doubt, so we'll be fine. If nothing's happened by Friday, then yes worry!

Agree5 Disagree5

And remember no one expected t/o to be announced at 21.30 at night so chill

Agree5 Disagree0

I'd rather lose the first 6 games and wait to get Pearce.

Build up a good team spirit and understanding and really go for it in 2013/14.

Rushing in will get us mugged. We must think about the long term.

512

Agree9 Disagree5

Id take a couple of weeks of waiting if it ment prem football at the end!

Agree4 Disagree2

Ed, Mad no, concerned yes.

Agree5 Disagree1

In a 3-5 year plan. A few days or even weeks to wait for the right man will make no difference. Imagine this would you rather our new owners panic and get say Darren Ferguson tomorrow or wait and get Harry Redknapp in a couple of weeks. (I'm just picking names there for example purposes)

Agree3 Disagree0

Keep the faith. important to get it right even if it takes longer than we want it to. no point appointing someone at wrong end of career.

Agree2 Disagree0

Enterr Big Phil!....

Agree3 Disagree1

Clough can't move anywhere as He doesn't have the right badges

Agree4 Disagree0

With a manager like Curbishley still around the Forest board should do their best to get him in. Knows how to run a team to their true potential!

Agree7 Disagree3

17 Jul 2012 18:55:04

Expect Forest to approach Blackpool for Ian Holloway. After Mc Carthy he has the best CV to get us up So he must be on the list!

Believable9 Unbelievable10

He won't leave Blackpool

Agree12 Disagree4

It would take too long to sort out a couple of months at least, although i would like him at the City Ground it's not realistic {Ed034's Note - I don't think it would take that long. A simple offer to test the water and a follow up one if holloway shows interest

Agree3 Disagree3

He would leave Blackpool, and leave for us. I always remember how blown away he was by our fans after the reception we gave his team after they destroyed us at the CG.
I'm quite sure that left a deep impression on him. He can also spot a good player too, and a bargain! Ince for example. I would welcome him

Agree10 Disagree5

Holloway is one of the only managers I think we should pay good money for - Warnock would be good but he's not for the long term. Fergie Jnr, no thanks.

He's far better than Gordan Strachan who seems to be the latest target.

Agree9 Disagree1

Isn't that called tapping ED and isn't it illegal lol {Ed034's Note - No. You approach the club to ask if you can speak to holloway, along with a figure we would offer for him. They will no doubt turn it down, but if you make it public, you would then be in a position to see if holloway is interested. If he is, go back with a better offer

Agree2 Disagree0

Well another day gone with no manager in sight anyone getting worried

Agree2 Disagree2

Not yet but if it gets to weekend then maybe

Agree3 Disagree1

With season imminent getting very worried. Trying to explain all this to my young son makes it more frustrating

Agree2 Disagree2

Wow - what a load of worriers you are! Dread to think what you would be like if we had to look forward to a season that was ownerless, managerless and playerless! ending in relegation. Can you not just enjoy the wonderful opportunity we have been given and stop it now...full stop! To the guy who is trying to explain it all to his young son - try getting him excited about the great times that lie ahead - he doesn't really need to know all about this - what you call uncertainty. I'm fed up of all this negativity! Is anyone else? Everyone was singing Al Hasawi's praises when we were given the good news - nothing has changed - KEEP THE FAITH. COYRs

Agree5 Disagree2

news just in
sky sports say gunter signed 3year deal at Reading

forest fire

Believable11 Unbelievable0

Great player sad he's gone, but the deal was done before hasawis came in,lets hope they have the money to replace him with a player as good COYR ps no to strachan

Agree10 Disagree2

Why oh why should we have to replace a player of gunters quality when. this is a massively negative move. if forest are to go anywhere then surely we hang on to our best players and build around them. {Ed034's Note - Keeping a player that wanted to go would be an even bigger negative

Agree4 Disagree2

Exactly Ed! Had an effect on Camp didn't it?

Agree7 Disagree0

Acording to emt the deal was agreed before the takeover .The new owners tried to persuade him to stay but He wanted a crack at prem can't fault him for that

Agree6 Disagree2

I don't think its a great loss, Moloney and Freeman have the potential to be just as good as him !

Out of all the players we have lost this will be only a small loss, yet... we got the greatest reward... Footballs strange game... {Ed034's Note - Disagree. I thought he was our best defender, but if he didn't want to stay, at least we have good money for him

Agree2 Disagree2

Acording to east midlands today the gunter deal was done before the present owners took over

Agree2 Disagree0

Moloney and freeman are 3rd div standed not good enough {Ed034's Note - Agree with Maloney, disagree with freeman. I hope that he gets a chance at some point this season.

Agree2 Disagree1

The money will not buy you gunter standed {Ed034's Note - Maybe not but it's better than an unhappy player

Agree1 Disagree1

Great player for getting down the flank, but never seemed to put quality ball into box, think forest might be trying a new formation goalie,9 midfielders and 1 striker would be very interesting lol

Agree2 Disagree1

Maloney is not good enough

Agree3 Disagree2

Freeman was the best player on the pitch when he played in the cup game vs Fester, and they then shipped him out on loan. My MD is a mad Notts fan, but despite this has a good footballing head on his shoulders, and he has raved about him all season. He's got everything that Gunter had and more. Gunter was a good player for us and I will miss him, but please look at some footage of goals we conceded last season and see how many came from crosses in his defensive zone that he failed to stop - quite a few. Good luck to Chris (look forward to watching him and McCleary on MoTD) but give Freeman a chance cos he is excellent.

Agree2 Disagree0

I think it's a good piece of business if the rumoured 2.3 is true a marked improvement on just letting people leave for free. I personally doubt whether Reading will cut it in the prem for long and we could end up replacing them with messers McCleary and Gunter dropping out whilst the likes of Blackstock get a crack. Kudos to the business accumen of the Al Hasawi family. Onward to a new manager and the amazing times we find ourselves in.

Agree1 Disagree0

According to Birtles on Talksport - GH has turned the job down and was offered it.
So 2 managers offered the job, both have said no!
Should we start to worry?

Believable8 Unbelievable7

You want to question why, maybe GH never wanted the post.

Ed- Why did you delete that last post about betting being suspended at 6pm? {Ed034's Note - Post that have anything to do with betting, gambling etc are banned I'm afraid

Agree1 Disagree2

Birtled only repeats what he is told by Paul Taylor, 99% of the time it's wrong!

Agree5 Disagree2

I think it may just mean that either the new owners want too much control or there is maybe a director of football role that many managers don't like......but then potentially just that the owners don't want to get their pants pulled down on the wages of a new manager. Potentially good though, maybe an aspiring up and comer will get the job.

Agree2 Disagree1

If this is the case we can def rule out billy as well. If he returns it will be on his terms. This stinks of a director of football being inolved. Hoddle is his own man as much as mm

Agree2 Disagree2

NO WE SHOULDN'T WORRY AT ALL! EVEN IF HE WAS OFFERED IT, WHICH I DOUBT, WE SHOULD BE ETERNALLY GRATEFUL HE TURNED IT DOWN.

Agree8 Disagree1

I agree it's a little. Concerning that managers seem to be turning down what sounds like a real exciting project for any manager to get there teeth into and fear they know something we don't but I am glad none of the for mentioned managers have got the job as I don't rate either of them lets hope we get a sensible appointment soon as this could quite easily turn into a circus show and we may find ourselves a laughing stock I'm already having feelings of dread and munto keeps popping up in my mind but I'll be patient a little longer but more this drags on and more people turn down the job the more fragile this takeover becomes {Ed034's Note - Nothing like Munto. We know who these guys are, nobody knew who was involved in Munto

Agree3 Disagree1

Maybe they turning it down due to the fact they came in and just sacked sc not even giving him a chance you can all cry about it as much as you want it wont change anything when they finf there man they will no and we will rise again

Agree0 Disagree2

I live in ireland and on all the irish radio news channels they say roy keanes solicitor as said he definitely throwing is hat in the ring !!

Agree1 Disagree1

Looks to me like Palladini is advising otherwise why would we be talking to a QPR player without a managers input ?
Hes either advisor or future D of F
Need an announcement very soon or reds fans will be turning against new owners simply on the back of rumours, lack of transfer activity and same old lack of info coming from CG and probably MA ( Ed -opinion on this ? {Ed034's Note - Possibily

Agree2 Disagree1

Apparently hoddles still in talks right now he's been in there talking for over 2hrs now so expect his announcement later tonite

Agree0 Disagree2

We need to look at Curbishley or go for the long term plan and look at Karl Robinson from MK Dons. That is the way forward in my opinion.

Agree4 Disagree1

What is going on with managers not taking the job r u concerned ed ? {Ed034's Note - Nope. I'd be concerned if someone took it that didn't want it. There's no confirmation that hoddle has turned anything down

Agree0 Disagree0

Sean O'Driscoll for coach with d of f

Agree4 Disagree2

I'm a bit lost here? why are people saying managerS have turned us down ? i thought mad mick had but thats it ?

Agree2 Disagree1

17 Jul 2012 16:34:01
Pboro chairman on ssn now saying no approach has been made for Fergie jr.

Believable6 Unbelievable3

17 Jul 2012 13:32:31
Word is now Dougie Freedman is now top is list now to be our next manager.

Believable7 Unbelievable7

There are only three people that knows ho next man is and i think it will be later on tonight or wednesday, needs sorting quick really get some signing get the fans happy cause the squad looks very thin

Agree5 Disagree2

"word is" from who where?

Agree2 Disagree1

Dougie will do nicely

Agree3 Disagree5

What is our team looking like for the first game of the season forgot what players we have remaining

Agree1 Disagree2

Dont think that would be the world's worse decision.

Agree1 Disagree1

We now need 3 CB's and Lascelles makes 4.
2LB's and Freeman / Maloney compete for the right back spot.
Sell / offload McGoldrick, Derbyshire, Findlay and Tudgay, and sign 2 more forwards.
In midfield offload Greening and maybe Moussi, and bring in 1 Left winger, 2 right wingers, and another 2 central mids. (Guediora being 1 of them)
This means we need 11 new players to bring in, while off-loading 5/6 of the deadwood. Loans or signings.
Ed - Do you agree? {Ed034's Note - The majority of it. I think maloney is not food enough, so a right back. If we bring in big George, he can play left back and centre.
Keep moussi because when fully fit and playing with confidence, he can run the midfield.

Agree5 Disagree8

Better than most that are being linked. I wouldnt mind dougie

Agree4 Disagree3

He hasnt done a bad job at Palace but they were in a better situation when he took over than we are now. Just hope Billy gets back i know there are mixed feelings for having him back but you have to admire his desire to manage us and his track record with Forest.

Agree5 Disagree4

Moussi does not run anything, all the games he plays in, we can't do anything in midfield, Steve mad his first mistake by getting him to sign, he is taking our money and costing us games

Agree4 Disagree5

17 Jul 2012 16:15:47
Glenn Hoddle could be manager by the end of the week.

Agree2 Disagree5

Chippers says Roy Keane hasn't applied nor been contacted by Forest but would consider it

Agree4 Disagree1

The end of the week will be too late, less five weeks left to start of the season, we can't afford to be palying catch right from the start

Agree4 Disagree2

We are already playing catch up we dont have any good enough defenders with experience

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jul 2012 12:24:48
Billy Davies has just left the City Ground, he was smiling, dont know if that means anything.

I was just eaving the study centre.

Also apparently Moussi tweeted that he was having an interview this morning.

My thoughts: it wouldnt be the end of the world, not sure about some of the names that have been mentioned, dont want Ince, dont want Ferguson, dont want Hoddle he has been away from management for 6 years, dont fancy Keane, Curbishley ?? possibly.

Cheers All

Andy {Ed034's Note - the moussi accounts is a face one, so ignore that

Believable16 Unbelievable6

I work as part of the marketing team at Forest and I have also just seen Billy at the CG. Not sure about smiling, but he has been here today.

Ger

Agree11 Disagree6

You would think with the amount of phones with cameras a picture could have been taken of Billy and his smile! Pie in the sky?!

Agree8 Disagree2

Are you two brothers or just mates, me think

Agree4 Disagree3

Everything seems to have gone quiet on all fronts, got a feeling we will find out today who the manager is and who the 2 players who signed the other day are, is this the calm before the storm?

RG09

Agree5 Disagree3

The lack of first person language in the key point of this statement leaves me dubious. As does all the reports that the Kuwaitii's are in London.

Also, not that they necessarily use the same transport as they did last week, but the silver minibus they travelled in then hasn't been at CG since they left after Saturdays conference.

Personally i'm sceptical on the accuracy of this post.

Agree3 Disagree1

What were you doing in the Study Center and who were you seeing? I used to work there so will know if your talking Bull.

Agree2 Disagree0

I never wanted Billy back, I was all for a fresh start, a new beginning, but if its a choice between Hoddle and young Fergie then I would be hugely underwelmed with those two. BRING BACK BILLY!!

Agree4 Disagree0

Tbh I am getting to the stage where anyone wanting to manage Forest will do me and sign about 10 players (defenders and strikers needed) while you are at it.

Agree2 Disagree1

Has anybody actually seen billy at cg ?

Agree0 Disagree2

17 Jul 2012 12:15:30
I'm hearing from a friend who works for forest that another manager who has applied for the job is Paul Hart. All I'm saying is he has applied for it, he hasn't been approached by the new owners.

M3LV

Believable6 Unbelievable6

Hope it's true

Agree9 Disagree5

Love paul hart to come back

Agree9 Disagree8

Did well the young ones at forest but that was ages ago, his other jobs since have been shocking so not really the right person to be spending money,

Agree5 Disagree2

The way Hart plays football needs good players. He would make us great

Agree5 Disagree8

Hart though a fans favourite had a pretty dismal record as a manager except one season with us. The academy was however one of the best under him

Agree7 Disagree3

It's not really fair to Paul Hart to just look at his record from the point of view of stats. It is one of those occasions where mere statistics tell barely a fraction of the story.
Remember that he inherited all of the dross and the fallout from the Pl*tt era. Useless players on stupid money that cost a fortune and nearly sent us into liquidation. A rubbish brand of football. He got them playing football and stopped the slide down the table.
We had to sell Jenas to stop the club going into administration. Prutton was sold as an offer came in that was too good to turn down. At the end of the play-off season Scimeca and Gareth Williams departed. David Johnson broke his leg and was never the same again. Harewood looked lost without him, and eventually another offer came in that couldn't be refused.
It is only my opinion, but I think that Paul Hart did a job that was far greater than Billy Davies did, considering the circumstances he had to work under. Davies did a decent job, but ultimately didn't get us up. I honestly think that if Paul Hart had the money to spend that Davies did, we would have gone up. {Ed034's Note - having said what you just did, do you there for think cotterill did a good job under the circumstances he had??

Agree8 Disagree4

Ed - Yes I do. I am not sure that Cotterill was the man to take us forward though. There is a subtle yet distinct difference. The football under SC was not a patch on that played under Hart, even with O'Driscoll's input. SC did what was asked of him. As you put it yourself last week, he achieved his target, with time to spare, but I will always have my reservations about him. Hard to say why really, other than the fact that he just doesn't inspire me. {Ed034's Note - i thought the football under sc, after he was able to bring in some players, was very good. not every game, but the majority at least. i just think if he had an italian accent, or a swagger about him, he'd still be in the job now. glad you think he did well though

Agree7 Disagree1

Ed - unfortuantely I am never able to make every game any more, so I may have missed some of the best bits. There was an upturn, definately, even from the games that I saw, but I still didn't see the pure passing and posession domination that was present with Hart's team. I'm not sure if an Italian accent would have saved SC, some swagger would have probably done so, mainly because it would have been a sign of some serious self-confidence, hence the statement that he doesn't inspire me. I have nothing against him per se, just don't think he was the man going forward. I take it that whoever disagreed with me was one of the "king Billy" brigade!!
For the record, I think BD did ok, but for my money, not the saviour that some people have him cracked up to be. People go on about the lack of a left back, well we didn't really have much of one either when Billy was splashing the cash around at the start of his first full season, and when you look at the money that was spent on McGoldrick and bringing in Adebola (wages only yes I know) then surely a left back who was vaguely competant could have been found instead of one of those two. Billy kept going on about "square pegs" but he did have the chance to buy a round one, he just chose not to.

that Paul Ince has applied for the vacant managerial post at Nottingham Forest.

M3LV

Believable3 Unbelievable8

He applies for every job going

Agree16 Disagree0

He even applied for the managers job at KFC cus he thought they were a football club !

Agree6 Disagree0

Paul Ince ;-)

Westy

Believable2 Unbelievable6

Paul Ince what? So he's applied for the job, so have I.

Agree4 Disagree0

I posted a rumour earlier that the word was Glen Hoddle had also turned the job down. You don't post that but put this on. Paul Ince? whats that mean? {Ed034's Note - i have put it on but its on the banter page as you have no source and you are the only person who has posted this. there is nothing on any website, media, twitter etc
the ince rumour is one ssn

Agree1 Disagree1

He's applied. He won't stand a chance but anyone can apply.

Agree6 Disagree0

I put this as the person i would like. I think he would do us a job. I didn't see it on sky sports before hand but thats just co-incidence. I aint claiming to be in the know im just saying i think he would be alright.

Westy

Agree1 Disagree2

According to talksport, Hoddle has also turned the job down.

Agree0 Disagree0

Can't see anything on Talksport about it

Gunter gone £2.3million. So now we have no defence!

In the words of Harrison Ford I've got a really bad feeling about this!! {Ed034's Note - The last two seasons people have either left for nothing, or they have been sold for next to nothing because there contract has run down. If Gunter wasjt prepared to sign a new contract, do you not think it is the right thing to do to get decent money for him now??

Believable9 Unbelievable3

With no manager and no defenders dont think we should have let him go . we are going to find it hard .Only hope is a big surprise today and not a bad one

Agree6 Disagree2

He Wants to go he has seen MA and put in a Request not us selling him if he wants to go then let him

Agree6 Disagree1

BUT.....with 4 weeks to go we have now not got ONE experienced defender...Surely a back 4 takes a bit of time to gel??

Agree7 Disagree0

Has he gone, or is it just talk, seen nowt official

Agree0 Disagree0

2.3 million? Thats good business. And like ed said, he must have wanted to go.

Agree5 Disagree2

This is ridiculous. what are they playing at! Obviously not listening to fans! making me feel ill

Gertrude the red

Agree2 Disagree7

Why would he leave if things are gonna be as good as the new owners say?? {Ed034's Note - Because its the premier league and that's what players strive for. He had the chance to go last January and refused because he didn't want to leave until we were safe

Agree4 Disagree1

It is better we get money for players.Lets stay positive a new era just around the corner, once this managerial merry-go-round is sorted we will all feel much happier and start to re-build a team worthy of wearing the shirt come on peeps FOREST 4 EVA!!!!!

Agree4 Disagree1

Has he gone yet though? Normally the Evening Post manage to get it totally wrong LOL

Agree3 Disagree2

The greater cause for concern for me is the fact that senior players are keen to leave a newly cash-rich, supposedly ambitious club within a week of new owners pitching up.

Agree8 Disagree1

Well just think that's 10 mill we get to spend due to the FIFA fair play

Agree4 Disagree0

Why are people saying "We have let him go"? If the player wants to leave with just a year of his contract left and we can get 2.3m now or nothing next year then it makes 100% sense. Some people on here have the business acumen of a goldfish!!! {Ed034's Note - We let chambers, lynch, mccleary and earnie go. We sold Gunter

Agree8 Disagree0

Gunter has been a regular good performer for Forest and HAS shown loyalty as there always seems to have been interest in him from somewhere. The fact he has stayed with us throughout the season when we have been very poor says something, he could have easily escaped in Jan if he wanted to but always said he wanted to stay and remain focused on securing survival, is that not being loyal? He is a young player and obviously wants to play in the Prem, not to mention Reading is a damn sight closer to his native Wales than Nottingham. Yes, it is very dissapointing to see him go but best of luck and a big thanks is deserved, he was a good player and nice character, very refreshing. {Ed034's Note - agreed

Agree16 Disagree0

Gunters contract doesn't expire until 2014 i think

Agree0 Disagree0

Cannot believe some of the posters on here moaning on about not having a team- Gunter gone (end if the world? No!- a good player- yes, but obviously he didn't fit into future plans! Or he wanted premiership football and did not want to wait until forest arrive in the prem. as I have posted before, the new owners aren't persons - they have confirmed they are in it for the long haul - that means it may take some TIME to rebuild! Have you got somewhere to be and don't have patience to wait and see? We may not go up this season, but you can bet your life we will go up in the next couple of seasons - Rome wasn't built in a day- so stop moaning and get fully behind your team!

Look at the big picture people! As has been said, beforehand players have been allowed to run contracts down and we have lost out on several million pounds worth of revenue from transfer fees. Selling a bloke for 2.3 million instead of waiting until he goes for nowt is already a massive improvement in the way that the club is run! I don't think anybody could ever doubt Chris's application, but sometimes it is just right for a player to move on. Right for him and right for the club. Don't get reactionary, keep calm and carry on!

Gunts had 2 yrs left on his contract. McClearey is his best mate and it made sense that if he wanted to go, then we get some money for him. Yep, it's worrying that we've got no experienced defenders, but we've got 5 weeks until the start of the season. A manager needs to be a priority. If it's not sorted soon we will be up shoot creek, without a paddle.
I've been told this was agreed before the new owners took over.
My own thoughts (be they a conspiracy theory or not): Sell as many as they can get away with, bring in Kuwaiti/Middle Eastern "trialists". Sign no one else. When we are desperate, we will then have to sign the "trialists". Either very shrewd or very underhand. Thoughts?

Gunters out of contract at the end ov the season but he is still under 23 so as long as forest offered him a contract at the same rate as he is on now we can ask for as much money as we like , he can't walk away for free for a change , ando is in the same boat now but we ain't offered him a contract so he can walk away for free {Ed034's Note -

Gunters contract runs till the end of 2014 its on the Beeb website

Good luck Gunter thanx for the help. Now lets all move on!

Glen Hoddle now 4/5 KIng Billy 4/1 HALF HIS ODDS FROM LAST NIGHT COYR

Agree2 Disagree1

So we have no manager and are now selling our best players brilliant

Agree3 Disagree1

I have always said I think Gunter was a liability - too hot headed, caught out too many times when we concede and gives away too many pens - having said that god knows who we get for a defence this season?!

Agree0 Disagree1

Good business IMHO. Players been allowed to walk away for nothing under Doughty. If Guntz has said he definitely wants to go then it is the right decision. At the end of his contract he will not be under 23 so could have walked for nothing. person 21.7.89.

Obviously the exact circumstances are unclear but I'd say the Gunter issue is far from ideal and could be seen in a very real sense as weakening the proposition for an incoming manager at this already late stage in preparation for 2012/13. I'm happy to wait on the outcome for now (what choice is there?) but while the new owners are talking the talk, until any concrete move is made on the appointments front, the situation is slowly deteriorating. A new manager needs to be appointed fast but the worry on that front is that, despite a lot of big talk about an iconic name who's among the best in the business, the smart money is still being placed on candidates who - with the possible exception of Hoddle - I'd have to categorise at the lower end.

Full of optimism after the weekends events, finally thought that maybe we were on our way back. Got to admit slightly worried after MM turned us down, I have a feeling that the new owners want more control of team affairs then they let on at the press conference, plus there were no statements along the lines of the new manager having substantial funds to bring in new players. Just statements saying that funds would not be disclosed. Now Gunter on his way too, I can understand his reasons so good look to him. Again nothing straight forward with Forest, hope its not the same old smoke and mirrors. {Ed034's Note - did you really expect that when asked about a transfer budget, they would come and and say??

Agree3 Disagree0

Ed, I wasn't expecting them to come out with an exact figure. However I would have expected the new owners with the financial clout that we think they have to at least have said a substantial sum would be available for new players. Instead we got "there is a budget in mind" that could be 1 mill for all we know. Lets hope I'm wrong and the budget is 10 - 20mil, we need it as we have no players {Ed034's Note - but if they had said this then people would be saying that they shouldnt have given other clubs a clue about how much money was available lol

Agree1 Disagree0

I agree with you poster who started with the Full of Optimism post.
I believe all you say to be true.

Agree0 Disagree0

I see posters still do not have faith in our new owners - Are you all real? We have just been taken over by an extremely wealthy family who are experienced in the world of football and, I am sure, will do everything in their power (backed up by money) to get a) the best manager and b) the best players they can! As before, THEY ARE IN THIS FOR THE LONG TERM - what part of this sentence do you not understand. You sound like a whole bunch of panic merchants! Just have FAITH - they are not in this to lose money - they are professional business people, with a love of football. The posters who are diving to the depths of despair need to take a step back and realise how lucky we have been to have a secure future for our club with the bonus of actually having owners who are passionate about Forest and the sport. Wake up and smell the roses. The best thing you can do is support them and our team - whichever players we finish up with! COYRs Life is great - come and join the party! (Liz)

I'd like to see Moloney get a chance. Hasn't been terrible when he's played. {Ed034's Note - in my opinion he isn't good enough for this league. he is very good when in a positions, with ball to his feet, but he lacks pace. freeman for me is a better bet and looks a great prospect

Agree1 Disagree1

I have to say I quite liked Chambers, Lynch, Morgan, and Gunter. I probably would've bid for Konchesky at the time too before he went to Leicester. The end of the day, we only just escaped relegation with 4 out of those 5 players playing the majority of games. They are all average players, hence why Chambers has gone to Ipswich, and Lynch to Huddersfield. Gunter gets away with mistakes because he's fast and fit as hell. I don't think getting a new defence is necessarily a bad thing, as long as we do get a new one of course. Gabbidon, Hall, s***tu, Gardner, would all do a decent job. I'm not saying they're great players, but in the championship they all bring they're own experience. Hopefully the new manager would buy a couple of decent players too, and then give Lascelles a chance. He must be capable if Spurs and Arsenal are after him. {Ed034's Note -

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said liz or should that be Abdulaziz?lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Freeman is ready and better that Gunter is sold than another play walk away for nowt. Grow up people its a business and just maybe the new owners realise that!

Agree1 Disagree0

'Cannot believe some of the posters on here moaning on about not having a team'

you can't believe that?

really?

we've got freeman and lascelles who have 1 league appearance between than and moloney, who is rubbish. that is what the new manager currently has to build a defence from.

even if the owners spend 10m on defenders the likelihood is they will struggle for a while. the current situation is beyond ridiculous.

Agree2 Disagree1

To - 'the current situation is beyond ridiculous' - you've forgotten already that the new owners are in it FOR THE LONG HAUL! and we need to support them. So long as we finish in top half or even mid table this season, it isn't important - what is important is the stability of the club with regard to finance. Success will come in due course. So my statement still stands - I cannot believe some of the posters on here moaning on about not having a team, including yourself.

Agree1 Disagree0

To be honest it doesnt matter what team we have, atleast we have a football team to support, i mean look at portsmouth they are prob going to go out of existance within the next few years, so just be happy that we have a local team to support.
