Revie was is a cancer in english football , never will leeds lose the tag of DIRTY LEEDS , He advocated in management of Leeds and then when his country came calling he was found out falling short and got starry eyed with the money on offer and dumped his country without a second thought. Rotten to the core filthy football and a traitor to his nation

{Ed001's Note - if you say so.}

Not the first manager to do well at club level and struggle with England. His record at club level was phenomenal and he disrupted the status quo - nothing wrong with that whatsoever in my opinion.

Ps good post Ed

{Ed001's Note - thanks 2star. Really glad you enjoyed. I thought Forest fans would sympathise with Revie's time at the FA as it was the same people that shafted Clough that held him back so badly there.}

Like clough revie divided and divides opinion. They clashed because they’re similar. The players that could handle their style of man management oozed self belief, commitment and desire. Revie choose the swine mentality, they’re all against us approach, that worked for him and players like Giles, bremnar, Hunter, lorimer, Charlton etc had a team spirit and winning mentality.

{Ed001's Note - two of the best ever.}

Ironically both born in Middlesbrough! Pretty sure Leeds finished in the top 3 for 10 consecutive seasons - he must have had something of a talent. It’s difficult to comprehend that it was just from being dirty !

{Ed001's Note - one of the things that was considered 'dirty' was his collecting of information on opponents. Nobody else in the English game, to my knowledge, was gathering up dossiers of information in that way back then. He was finding out opponent's weaknesses and targeting them in a way we now consider normal. He was never allowed to do that with England. The FA appointed him but then never let him use the methods that brought success. Makes you wonder if Clough actually had a lucky escape by never being given the England job. It would have been all out war between him and the FA if they had tried to dictate how he worked!}

Don revie knew how to set a team up,all over the pitch he had winners,players that would play for him and the club.
When people say dirty Leeds?
Well Eddie gray was a joy to watch as was Alan Clarke.
He was a winner and had the right formula of youth,talent,experience and a pattern of play that was hard to beat.
Got to agree with edd that those in power made it impossible for England to be a success again,they just wanted a yes man who tolled the line and just thought the football would take care of itself.
They were scared of clough and mcmenemy and didn't want to be exposed to how useless they actually were.

{Ed001's Note - and England are still recovering from that.}

Got to admit edd that we are on the right track now,I thought southgate would be a joke and have said so,how wrong I was,hes been bold and not picked who the press want and the tiffs,hes is own man and has gone for youth and a system to play.
Let's hope he's left alone to get on with his project and it's the first time since 1970 I've felt confident in England doing well.
Biggest thing for me now is to make the FA cup the prestigious event it always was,time to get the sponsors sorted and make clubs put 100% effort into it.

{Ed001's Note - I am not convinced by Southgate but he is finally a manager being given a chance to manage and that is a huge improvement.

I agree on the FA Cup. Stop messing about on timings etc, just make it matter once more.}

Revie was there a few years , but for me the biggest influence came from the likes of Billy Bremner and co . The players ran the show and Revie just hung on tight and went with the flow . He certainly had something, but it didn't work in the England job . I remember in the past he wasn't best liked nor were Leeds , may have been some admiration in there somewhere. Some of the England lads never knocked him or even praised him , suppose after Ramsey it's an hard act to follow.

Nothing like telling it how it is!

Fancy some Leeds baiting with me in the home stand at Elland Road next season?

They are a very sensitive and insecure bunch so it should be fun!
