It must be a social media thing. Does it attract people who delight in being negative? It is so easy to pick fault. The law of averages means unfortunately the negative posters will be right with their pessimistic predictions at least some of the time. They then delight in telling us, they told us so.
The pessimists would never predict a result like our 4:0 drubbing of QPR. To them this was a mere blip on our inevitable spiral of decline.
They don’t see progress and a manager is only ever one or two defeats away from calls to be replaced.
The national team suffers at the hands of these type of people too. At national level they are in their element, because here their pessimistic predictions are almost certain to come true.
England, unlike Italy and all of the home nations, qualified for the World Cup. They did so with ease. They play the current World Champions, Germany and the best football team on the planet, Brazil and with a scratch side manage two creditable draws, without conceding a goal.
Gareth Southgate is an English manager, something we say we want. He is blooding young talent, who have only played a handful of games in the Premier League and still I am hearing calls for him to be sacked.

The chances of us winning the World Cup are slim. Reason to be optimistic though are there, if you only care to look. We are not a pessimistic nation by nature, at the moment though we do seem to have given the microphones to people who delight in the downbeat. They are a minority, but unfortunately they do make an awful lot of noise.

I can't really comment on the social media aspect of today as this forum is my only outlet in respect of that particular part of moderen life.
I think you are right wisheyeddove in what you say with regard to the negative aspects of some posters who will inevitably be calling for managerial change after a couple of defeats and will come on here saying " I told you so " or " this has been coming " etc etc .

Equally you will have posts from other fans who are perhaps more positive in their outlook saying after a win or really good performance eg Qpr saying " Where are all the moaners now " or " Hows the tippy tappy stuff now " etc etc.

I have made positive and negative comments on here which at the end of the day are my opinions based on what I see and quite frankly if everyone came on and agreed with everyone else it would be pretty boring.

My feelings on the subject of international football are pretty clear ie I have no interest in it at all. I do not aim this at the English national side but at the standard of international football in general.

I remeber quite vividly watching the world cup and was lucky enough to watch in 1966 and I watched it for many tournaments after that but I found that probably over the last 15 or 20 years the football in the tournament got more and more predictable and frankly boring.

From my perspective the prevalence of live football may also play a part in it because again harking back to the past I would watch any live game I could because they were so rarely broadcast live.

Football at any level is all about opinions which should be respected on both sides.

If you got to the end of this waffle then thanks and well done.
