Do we actually need this guy?
Money better spent on a 20 goal per season striker.

They should have used this proposed money for Sako and paid a bit more for Austin, although getting Dex off the wage bill would be a bonus.

{Ed034's Note - we had a deal in place to buy Austin and terms had been agreed. it was qpr who dipped in last minute, offered more in wages and he signed.

Agreed Ed! Great player! Do you like my deadly 5 man midfield of Abdoun, Reid, Guedioura, Lansbury, Sako? Problem is, the only way of getting our 20 goal a season striker (?) up front with Mackie would be with 3 at the back which I don't like, oh what a job Billy has! :)

I'm not sure we need this guy, why would we need a fast strong player that drives at defenders and creates loads of chances why he gets to the byline. defenders easy talk this is, just get the 20 goal striker in doesn't matter about service to him.

How do you figure that out ed? Guys pinging it in and no-one to finish?. Mackie or Paterson must have been bought for an out and out striker then.

It's worth noting as well a wide player of this quality will perhaps improve the front line we already have. If we miss out on a prolific striker which are hard to come by, maybe the thinking is give the front line we have the ammo they need and they may just put a few more than usual away.

Maybe BD will go with a good ol' fashioned 4-3-3 Diamond formation with Abdoun and Sako out wide, Adlene in the middle, Derbyshire up front with Patterson and Cox just behind.

Either way, Sako would be a great addition to the squad

Cardiff and hull went up without a 20 goal striker and I believe with sako we could go up with enough goals from midfield and upfront. So there's proof you don't need strikers scoring 20 to go up COYR

This guy is on 25 thousand a week at wolves, those sort of wages can get us an incredible striker, much as I rate him think this area of the team is not our priority,

I think Jamie Paterson looks really exciting. I am all for having strength in depth but surely we would be better off buying a striker? I appreciate what Ed has said about buying a striker too but the £2.5 million suggested fee would be more wisely spent on getting a top class striker in for this league. Rhodes or even Ebanks-Blake could do a good job in this now very exciting team.

I'm totally with Ed on this, Sako is a class act, prem quality and would be a great addition. If it's happening, then great!

One thing we don't know is how much Fawaz paid to put his name on our shirts. This could be, as slightly underhand as it is, the plan. There could be buckets of cash left over from the Adidas deal, the Al-Jazeera deal, the Nottingham Radio deal and the sponsorship for a top class striker.

People need to relax, let things run their course and see where the chips fall on 1 September.

I think we can be safe in the knowledge that goals will come from the team we have, 4 in 2 games already, 4 different scorers too.

In Fawaz and BD we must trust!

Sako is a player that will only get better with time and reidy won't go on forever. You need pace and width nowadays to be a good team and with sako and a decent striker we should be in the right place come May.

Fawaz has been very clever. He is the sponsor of the club. any money made by the sponsor of the club will go well with FFP. he can pump as much money in as he wants through the sponsor to go with FFP guidelines. Happy Days!

Sako is premiership quality you cannot afford to not bid for him if he's interested the guy is immense especially for us. All you saying sign a 20 goal season striker this is not a game where you sign someone and they automatically give you 20 goals a season. Billy is probably waiting until the window to see what his options are

I think its sad that everyone is so pleased about the prospect of "getting Dex off the wage bill" etc. He hepled save us from relegation twice and has always give 100%. The guy deserves more respect from the fans!

Personally I do not think anyone is meaning to be disrespectful to Dexter but in the modern world if you are not performing to your potential then you, outside of football, get warned then sacked.

It would be a crying shame to see Dexter rotting in the reserves as he deserves better and a change of scenary may be the answer.

Agree about sako being a top player and would be a top signing for us. Also agree with the above poster about the negativity towards dex. He can still do a job for us without doubt and has shown nothing but respect and loyalty to the club and bar the bad spell towards the back half of last season he has been a really good player for us. He Deserves his spot in the squad well above a couple of the other strikers we have at the moment who certainly haven't shown the commitment to the club dex has

People that are sad about Blackstock leaving are stuck in the past! this is football a competitive sport and when they start to drop off they have to leave do you agree ED? this is what so many successful teams do and this is what we have to do to move forward but ill always remember what he did for us.

I disagree with fans calling him though. he has done a huge amount for our club and deserves respect from every fan for his effort. yes he has been poor since Christmas, but don't forget what he has given us

Midfield and defence sorted. If you don't let goals in you don't lose the game. But I would have liked to have seen good money spent on a goal scorer. I'm not going to argue with Billy or the owners though as they seem to be assembling a strong squad.

Re Sako. If Forest were to get their man, I think you would get the same feeling when he receives the ball that you got when Collymore received the ball. edge of the seats stuff. I'm not saying he would score as many goals as Collymore, but the sheer adrenalin rush you would get when he goes at players would be the same. Hope this deal happens. would be the biggest and best deal since "Stan the Man"

We will always remember him for what he did but this is football and everyone's got to play there part otherwise what use are they for the club, some of you fans are delusional

The Reds now have what has been missing for the last 4/5 years. Depth in numbers.
A healthy challenge for places which is going to keep players on their toes. We haven't a 20 goal man but goals can come from all positions.
There are going to be at least 8 teams capable of going up, and at some stage players are going to get injured or suspended. This squad could make all the difference.
