If we are going for an experienced keeper then John Ruddy is a free agent and is one of the best available out there. Good age at 30 and popular at Norwich. Needs to work on his catching as it is not as good as his punching!

I agree Red, I think Ruddy would be a great signing although whenever I bring this up with people the first thing they ask is why is he being released by Norwich?

I also think Guillermo ochoa (Mexico gk) was just release by Malaga. I know that might be a bit ambitious but a great Gk who is without a club. More likely to sign for another European club.

Don't see why we are looking at another keeper. smith came in and did nothing wrong last season and the only way he will get experience is by playing. untill he makes a few clangers he should be our number one. he was thrown in at the deep end and played very well he should be given his chnace. can't see a half decent keeper coming and being second fiddle to smith tho so the only way to attract a decent keeper is to offer 1st team football and that would be harsh on smith.

Well said UTF.

I'd love to be confident enough to stick with with Smith but I think the squad still needs an experienced custodian because I just don't rate Henderson.

Smith got away with a clanger against Derby when he dropped a cross and conceded a goal that was wrongly ruled out for a foul. He's not the most commanding goalkeeper, maybe that will come with time and experience.

SSWE. They all make a mess of things at times, Joe Hart for instance. Being more commanding, as you said will come with time and experience.

A bright future
Then why not let Jordan go out on loan and get that experience elsewhere. I was a goalkeeper. Jordan did really well coming from third choice keeper last season.
He made some great saves but also made some big errors too. If he is good enough let him prove it on loan. Then come back to us the finished article.
It is a harsh reality the Championship is not the place for any player to be learning their trade, especially a goalkeeper.
i love it that Forest fans want to give Jordan a chance, but they wanted the same for Tyler Walker and it has taken him over a year to recover.

The risk is though, if Smith goes through a sticky patch or gets injured then it's a long season with Henderson as the only other senior alternative. I'm really not keen on what I've seen of Henderson!

And the only reason I mentioned his error v Derby was because someone claimed he 'did nothing wrong' last season. Well he did plenty wrong, the Derby error being a stand-out moment. But it's easier to overlook mistakes when they're young kids from your own academy - I think it's called Ben Osborn Syndrome.

Joe Hart should not be playing for England, never turns up for the big games and can't handle the pressure, liability at that level.

Wishy. That is a very good post, and you point out things that are common sense, it must just be my wanting the club to use our young players that makes me think it would be harsh on Smith, even though what you said makes sense.
_____________________________________SSWE. Henderson was shaky when he first got into the team to say the least, but was beginning to come good until the injury, so barring an injury to Smith i think it would be good competition between the pair of them, but i understand where you are coming from.

42. I could not agree with you more, even at his loan club Torino someone said they were surprised at how many mistakes he makes, and he has so much more experience than Smith.
We have to trust MW's decisions and give him time to shape the club in the right way.

If we've got to sign a keeper and pay a transfer fee. Why don't we go for Westwood from sheff Wednesday.
He's been very good when I've seen him.
Put a cheeky bid in. 2/ 3m.

Smith kept us in a lot of games with some superb saves, Warburton rates him and is in charge and he has earnt the right to start the season.
Get behind the lad instead of picking
fault before a ball is kicked in the new season.

Henderson has only just returned to full training and will need to go out on loan to get some game time. Therefore we need an experienced fully fit keeper to challenge Smith.

Ruddy would be perfect.

No one is picking fault, FF79, just stated what we have observed. Thankfully, I think MW agrees, hence why we are looking to sign a goalkeeper.
