Clough has been linked with a loan move to Bolton, is that a wise move, i can understand Clough wanting it as he is not getting enough games, but it would strengthen another Championship club.

GreyandRedMan

1.) 11 Dec 2017 12:21:31
Clough being kept out of the side by Dowell and won,t improve by not playing ,really needs a run in the side to see how good he is but that won,t happen with Dowell here begining to look like another Patterson situation and could end with someone getting him on the cheap.
CARLO

2.) 11 Dec 2017 12:33:57
This is a tough decision but Clough needs games to loosen the rust and keep him sharp.
Itโ€™s a catch 22 situation unfortunately.
Itโ€™s like robbing Peter to pay Paul.

3.) 11 Dec 2017 14:43:08
I know Dowell is good but its hard to see our own players suffering while we develop someone elses youngster. If there was a chance of buying him fine but I can't see it. You end up with him leaving and our player wanting to leave.loans are ok to bolster positions your short in.

4.) 11 Dec 2017 18:32:29
Could always loan him to Notts that way he gets a game and won't give a team in our league a decent player

5.) 11 Dec 2017 22:40:47
Why not just play Dowell and Clough?

6.) 12 Dec 2017 17:42:10
you have to feel for clough i thought he was a great buy when we got him but to be fair he has not lived up to my expectations but he will have his chance again no way will dowell stay at forest but he's playing well so you can't really drop him,but i would use clough more than MW has this season

7.) 12 Dec 2017 22:35:23
Thing is with Dowell he's very inconsistent, hat trick one game ,totally ineffective the next, last few games he's played he's been poor, but so has osborn.
Against Bolton it was a toss up which one to take off or even both?.
He's got talent no denying, but he's young and runs got and cold.
Osborn has been given the midfield role he craved for,but despite his running around has failed to show why he should play there.
I'd like to see clough come good and to be fair he started the season first choice no 10 but didn't grasp it,My concern is he's lightweight as Osborn McKay Vaughan and Bridcutt are,got to have some presence in midfield for me,players like clough and McKay need a midfielder too do the dirty work for them.
At Bolton he was surrounded by enforcers allowing him to play his game.
We need a hard tackling big presence in midfield to let the attacking midfielders to flourish.

8.) 12 Dec 2017 23:52:43
Clough needs game time to sharpen up. A short term loan with a call back option would be if it club and player.
If he enables Bolton to beat the teams we are trying to climb above in the league then it's a total win win situation.

9.) 13 Dec 2017 16:07:54
So having loans players in means loaning your own expensive players out !
Sounds like a merry go round that benifits two other clubs but unless the one you,ve got is epceptional of no benifit to you and possibly cost you money .
In the championship if you pay out big money I think unless the player you have bought is really poor they should get a good run in your side or the money,s been wasted.
CARLO

10.) 13 Dec 2017 20:27:47
Think your right on that Carlo, not a fan of any loan deals myself, unless in extreme circumstances, where your struggling in an area with injuries.
Like to see clough given a run, first few games he looked the part and scored goals.
It's that same old problem though,he was signed by fawaz and maybe warbo don't rate him, this is a reason to stay with warbo let him sort out who he wants to keep and who he wants to bring in.
I do think we're overloaded with midfielders who mostly have the same build, small and easily bullied out of games.
For me if we can get our money back and say a few million for Osborn, then get a couple of stronger all round midfielders I'd be happy with that.
We seem to have had a pattern over the last five years of having these diminutive midfielders time for a change.

11.) 14 Dec 2017 11:11:03
Quigly,Newton,Barnwell,Lyall,McGovern,Gemmill,Hodge,Reid, McKenna and many more ,not one over5'8 "it,s not height but talent and commitment that matters .
CARLO

12.) 14 Dec 2017 13:55:08
Your talking way different quality from the players we have now.
Not a single midfielder we have now would have got into any of the sides any of those players played in.
I don't question the commitment of our midfield,it's just a fact they can't tackle and other than McKay and Dowell don't score either.

07 Dec 2017 15:40:29
Lewis Walters has been loaned out to Barrow, is it a wheelie good move?

GreyandRedMan

1.) 07 Dec 2017 19:36:12
Yates spent a year there too. Walters just hasn't quite made it into the first team at Forest so it makes sense to give him some exposure in another Division.

2.) 07 Dec 2017 22:43:12
If all works out he'll be playing across the Trent next season then.
Not so far to "wheel his barrow"๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€

3.) 08 Dec 2017 07:48:29
If he goes let's hope he "fetches" a good price!! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‹

4.) 08 Dec 2017 13:39:06
Indeed Rogie, we need to show them they can't push us around!

5.) 09 Dec 2017 11:59:18
Myself I,ve aways found a one wheel barrow harder to push but easier tip up where as the two or four wheeler is much easier to push but hard to tip the cargo out!
CARLO

03 Dec 2017 20:30:33
It would be wrong to say it is ok for the lads to keep giving the opposition a goal in the early stages, let alone anytime during a game, off course it is not.

We gave Ipswich the lead three times, although that is not good enough we did get back in the game twice which is a sign that they have the bottle, and believe in the manager.

There is no getting away from, the lads very often are stuck in their own half pondering who to pass to and wasting valuable time when with a bit of gumption could be getting the ball forward and putting pressure on the opposition.

What we need to understand though is that no system is turned into a well oiled machine overnight, i can not say for sure but i would suggest Wimbledon did not get their system sorted in one season.

I would say there was less pressure on them to do well and went under the radar until they honed their system to the point they took the leagues by storm.

Warburton's plan seems to be bringing in young players then have the odd experienced player along side of them and trying to play a slick passing game.

Warburton's plan has two problems, the first is young players lack consistency, the second is that nowadays slick passing is a fading art unless you are in the very top leagues in the world.

What is a positive of wanting to play slick passing, once it has been honed is, when we get in the Premiership we will be more likely to stay there.

Warburton's way is something until it is fine tuned will be like pulling teeth by a bit of string on a door, it will take time and hurt like hell. We have however waited many years will two or three make any difference.

GreyandRedMan

1.) 03 Dec 2017 21:09:55
if anyone has forgotten we beat most of this team 3-0 to stay up last season. since then there additions have hardly been awe inspiring. In the meantime we've changed our team pretty much wholesale albeit in defence , and barely 20 games later we lose like that today concedind 4 poxy goals against by now you've probably guessed what i consider very ordinary oppostion.

Leeds are the only team to comphrensively take us apart and they didn't score 4 ffs, MW only makes like for like changes seldom makes tactical changes. i was unfortunate enough to be at Reading for instance and it was clear after 10 mins what was required.Did he change to avoid the blindingly obvious.

No his w subs were completely like for like just throwing on fresh legs hoping something would happen Hmmm, to say the jury is still out is an understatement.Dont necessarily want him gone but someone definitely needs to have a word in his ear!!

2.) 03 Dec 2017 21:11:26
Well said red man

3.) 03 Dec 2017 21:43:47
Systems??? Football is a simple game complicated by idiots. Their is a goal at each end of the pitch. You defend one and attack the other. Cloughie would wet himself with talk of this nonsense

4.) 03 Dec 2017 22:02:09
What idiots like pep, mouriniho, and every other manager in any major league in the world?
You have to have as system of play.
Well seeing as there is a goal at each end we could just play 5 defenders and five attackers, job done.
Blimey it is simple,I've been watching idiots manage for years๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”

5.) 03 Dec 2017 22:16:05
When we beat Ipswich at home 3-0 we played a back 3 with wing backs and overlapping wingers, overloading the wide positions. We aren't playing that format at the moment with a definite back 4 so . .
I am certain we will get better as a team with MW at the helm, we have to show more patience

6.) 03 Dec 2017 23:20:27
Nice one chuggs.

Was that a plan B?
Surely not?
No plan A according to some

7.) 03 Dec 2017 23:31:17
Systems??? So a system is a rigid way of doing things and you stick to the system. Ah that's where we are going wrong. Not sticking to the system. Footbal is a fluid ever changing ebb and flow. You can have a formation thst you set out with that you can change due to circumstances but a system does not allow for change. Fact. Systems are things that people get bogged down in fact. We need personelle who are good at their job, can adapt to an evolving situation and be able to embrace change. Do you think that warnock gets his players bogged down with systems? No his players get stuck in wind up the opposition, makecthem make mistakes and they fight to the end. Thatscwhy clough and velios are out won't stick to the system. Think about it.

8.) 04 Dec 2017 07:21:02
Why do people keep bringing top premiership managers in to it?
They play their "systems" and if it does not work they spend 50 million on a new player to fit into that system until it works
We are Forest not man u or city
We can't keep buying and buying, if the system does not work we need to change the system to suit what we have and that is where we are failing
No plan B

9.) 04 Dec 2017 18:42:26
Warbos problem is he persists to use the same tippy tappy passing even when he can blatantly see that itโ€™s not working,as soon as he sees itโ€™s not working he should change it rather than stick with it but he is either too stubborn or a poor manger.

10.) 04 Dec 2017 20:52:39

11.) 04 Dec 2017 21:18:09

15.) 05 Dec 2017 18:22:07
Or in the case of the Fawaz Acolytes " Only the Lonely"?

12 Nov 2017 15:14:07
Paul Taylor we will go for a goalkeeper, central defender, central midfielder, and there could be a Premiership loan signing. He said seemed to know who it was but did not say who.

GreyandRedMan

1.) 19 Nov 2017 19:32:32
On top of that we need an experienced striker. Maybe we should sign Vellios?

11 Nov 2017 15:15:03
Anthony Scully is supposed to be on trial but is contracted to West Ham so he would only be a loan player? Can that happen outside a transfer window.

GreyandRedMan

1.) 11 Nov 2017 22:35:27
If he's on trial I would think he's surplus to requirements at West ham,so has been released to find a new club, would think if he impressed west ham would cancel his contract and he's a free agent?or they've already cancelled it?

2.) 12 Nov 2017 00:06:29
Does this mean we are lining up his partner in crime Erwin Mulder from Swansea as our new goalie?

I hear McParland has X Files on both!

As no, or very few clubs take the FA, or League Cup seriously would anyone be upset if Warburton put out our best academy players along with Murphy, Mancienne, and Ward to guide them against Arsenal.

GreyandRedMan

1.) 13 Dec 2017 16:56:39
Millwall got to a final taking the FA Cup seriously. A winning mentality breeds success in all competitions and teams that try and pick and chose when to turn up often fail on all fronts!

2.) 14 Dec 2017 09:23:03
With our season being so up and down, the last thing we need is a pasting!!!

3.) 14 Dec 2017 09:54:26
Rogie Red

It does not matter how strong the team is we could get a pasting.

10 Dec 2017 19:59:37
I know there is a long way to go till the end of the season but i have looked at the table and it makes interesting reading.

7 of the teams that have beat us so far this season points wise are:

Birmingham. 16 pts

Barnsley. 20 pts

Reading. 26 pts

Sheffield W 27 pts

Fulham. 29 pts

Ipswich. 32 pts

Leeds. 33 pts

Nottingham Forest are on 30 pts, so of the 7 teams listed that have beat us only 2 teams are above us and not by many points.

That makes most of the teams that have beaten us are no better off than we are.

Did they just raise their game against us, or are we a better team than some think.

Like i say still a long way to go, but it puts it in a way that we are not all that bad, and if we are, what does that say about the above 7 teams. ?

GreyandRedMan

1.) 10 Dec 2017 20:18:30
Bizarrely the least points the team has the more disappointed I am with the performance. Make from that, what you will.๐Ÿ˜€

2.) 10 Dec 2017 21:48:26
Hmmm. Not sure what your getting at GreyandRedMan. You Can't just pick the teams and stats you want, you have to look at the whole picture.
Include Villa,Wolves,Derby and Cardiff then 6 teams who beat us are above us and 5 are below us so MOST of the teams to have beaten us are better off than us.

3.) 10 Dec 2017 22:36:53
Red Fred

We just see differently, eleve teams have beaten us in the Championship, yet only four are more tham 3 points above us, one is only 2 points above us,and one only 3 points above us hardly running away from us those two are they.

The rest are behind on points, so are really as bad as some like to suggest.?

4.) 11 Dec 2017 14:46:03
The lower teams put more into defending and we can't break them down. Higher teams attack and leave space for forest to play.

5.) 11 Dec 2017 18:00:01
So basically we need another 22 points to be better off than last season?

6.) 11 Dec 2017 18:02:17
It just means we're inconsistent, and so are many other clubs in the division.

09 Dec 2017 18:36:32
Sunderland went to Wolves and got a draw, that shows just how hard the Championship is.

GreyandRedMan

1.) 09 Dec 2017 19:03:18
And with 10 men,i wasn't there today but can anyone tell me if it was worth bringing Mills in ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

2.) 09 Dec 2017 20:19:24
Oj71

I may be bias as I'm not fan of Mills but for me, in our box Mills was useless, but near the halfway line he got a few headers in, as a whole was largely not worth a place.

3.) 10 Dec 2017 09:23:53
Too many anti-Mills people around. It was partly Mills' grit, aggression and refusal to let Bolton/Parkinson keep getting away with their spoilhoofball, that kept us fighting till the end. He might not be the quickest, but he can suss out the cheats right away and face them up. And by the way so did Bridcutt who never gave in to their childish antics either.

4.) 10 Dec 2017 11:10:26
Bsered

I know it is a different position but Sheringham did not have a lot of pace but his ability to read the game and pass the ball well made him a fine player.

Mills in my opinion has no positional sense, sometimes waits too long before passing the ball, and when he makes a mistake, or gets caught out of position, instead of getting on with it he shakes his fists, and gets on his knees to slam the pitch.

Yesterday he messed up one time and he was so busy shaking his fists as Bolton went down one of the wings instead of getting in position.

He also very often hoofs the ball up the pith straight to the opposition.

09 Dec 2017 17:54:03
A hard fought win, except in our own half we struggled to put three passes together.

The officials were dreadful, Mills getting booked for being fouled, and Bolton's 6 foot plus were a bunch of girls the way they kept going down, but the officials fell for it.

So often in different parts of the pitch Walker was unmarked, yet we passed it sideways or backwards instead of to Wslker an advanced position.

The Bolton fans got on my nerves banging on the plastic above me, i could not believe how often we started to run forward then stopped to see eho to pass to when it was easier to keep running at them.

We at the end of the day though won which is the important thing.

GreyandRedMan

1.) 09 Dec 2017 18:21:42
Did not go today but it seems that once again our playing by numbers football does not allow for releasing a ball wide right when the player whether it be Brereton, Osborn, Walker et al are standing in space?

Modern tactics ignore the best chance of breaking down a defence is the run to the bye line, played back to runners breaking from midfield. Given we only have 1 up front you would think that this would be in the playbook instead of playing tippy tappy down the middle?

2.) 09 Dec 2017 18:32:37
No tippy tappy today, more long balls than I've seen all season.
You have to remember that we had a centre half playing right back and our right back playing left back, warbo had no options on that one,the rest are injured as per usual.

More of a scrap and we won it.

3.) 09 Dec 2017 18:54:13
Thanks FF79 at least we mixed it up for a change? Onward and upward!
Bit quiet on the Formoaner front?

4.) 10 Dec 2017 00:54:33
Music to my ears, when we had to go toe to toe with Bolton, we did. Probably not the prettiest game to watch but as MW had the good grace to admit, just as important a victory and 3 points. We won't win them all, we won't play fantasy football every week but we will be proud if our players put a shift in. Onwards and upwards you reds.๐Ÿ‘

08 Dec 2017 09:46:27
Warburton has said he wanted another defender to come in the Summer but his wage demands were too high for the club.

The January transfer window is going to be interesting as to who, if anybody we can get rid of, and who comes in.

Fingers crossed the club get the players it needs.

GreyandRedMan

1.) 08 Dec 2017 13:29:10
I imagine the brief for January will be the same as before. Younger players, or senior pros that will fit in with our wage structure. I guess a lot will also depend on who we can move on. I suspect Hobbs, Mills, Ward and Vellios are the obvious people.

2.) 08 Dec 2017 14:46:11
It will be interesting to see who is put up for a move out of the club.
Hobbs springs to mind but I can't see him going without the remaing 6 months of his substantial contract being paid up.
( I am in the play him camp but clearly that won't be happening ).

I thought that offering Cohen another year as a player was a mistake but his loyalty demands a position within the club structure so I can see him being sorted.

Vellios is clearly unhappy and may go but again I would imagine it to be wage related because if he goes to Greece he will not be getting anywhere near the wages he is on here.

Ward is another candidate and I think Henderson too .

Caryol is a worry becauise I can see him going which is a shame but doesn't seem to start a game.

Controversially I think Clough may get dragged into it as once again he doesn't seem to fit into the managers plans,

Mills and Fox may also be included too.

I am not saying these should stay or go but more trying to read Mr Warburtons thoughts. He has stated he wants to sign 3 or 4 players but on the other hand has also said the CURRENT squad of 26 available first team players is too large for his personal style so the maths would indicate a bit of a culling for want of a better phrase

3.) 08 Dec 2017 15:53:17
Creepy 1

I agree about Hobbs, he would not get the wages anywhere else that he gets at Forest.

Who does go depends on what Warburton has said to each player, and just how much each player wants to play regular football.

I would keep Ward, and Clough, i think Clough will get more game time once Dowell goes back to Everton, or moved to a lower Premiership club.

Caryol is a tough one, he would make a good impact player and to start against some teams for a different threat, but his injury record is makes it a difficult decision.

Mills, and Fox need to go, and as for Velios i would like to see him stay but Warburton clearly not rate him, so he needs to go aswell.

4.) 09 Dec 2017 11:31:21
I think we must keep a player like Clough. He has class anout him. He will develop into a quality player. Creative which is what we need.

Although you have a point, what i think you are missing is that if he was as good as you want him to be he would not have hung around Forest.

When Antonio was with us Eric allowed him to do what he did best by covering his defensive duties.

Eric works hard is pretty good at defending and gets forward aswell, forget about him having been player of the year, he is our best defender.

Yes you are right we need a seasoned defender, and he needs to be vocal, both in urging on those around him, and giving them what for when needed.

I suppose the difference between you and i is you think about what is and i think what might be.

Off course if we were really struggling i would find it harder to be hopeful.

New players will not give us consistency, but could improve the team.

Consistency comes with playing together and therefore knowing what others are likely to do and where they will be.

You can look at it two ways.

We could always shock them as we did against Sheffield United, and as we did Holloway when we beat Qpr.

If we get beat then look at where they are in the league, so it is not so bad.
