What struck me most about Englands coaching staff outlook last night was when we'd hit the 45th ranked team with a double hard punch ( the last minute equaliser then the first minute of extra time winner) surely that was the time to attack and put them to the sword like Spain did with Georgia.
It's like a boxer knocked semi conscious and staggering about the ring. Finish them off whilst you've got the chance
But no, its pack defence, low block, 2 lines of 4 ( sometimes no one up top), invite them on.
We got away with it ( couple of half chances) but same old, same old. ????.

It is frustrating Stokey. So much talent which has been shackled. It's like keeping a House Martin cable-tied to a post.

Equalised in the 95th minute. Scored the winner in the 91st minute. It's like going back in time.

Legless, your comment about the House Martin is poetry. Have you ever read Ted Hughes selection called “Crow”.? Very reminiscent of his work. Staggering stuff mate
Clough your time travel thought is equally intriguing….

Legless, he was a Yorkshire farmer who became Poet Laureate, married to the equally brilliant American Poet Sylvia Plath, who, tragically committed suicide when he left her for another woman.
I saw him at my uni St David’s Lampeter in Wales give a reading of his work. Very dour and some of his work is a grim vision of humanity.
He read a poem about an event in his farm where a cow giving birth had problems and he had to basically behead the calf to save the cow. Very bloody and moving. A couple of students, male and female, passed out. Such is the power of words eh.
Your phrase could have come straight out of one of his poems.

Very interesting - thanks Stokey. I never thought that on joining this site I'd be talking with someone about poetry as opposed to football! I will look this farmer/ Laureate up when I get a mo.

Legless, next season I’m looking forward to seeing poetry in motion from the Reds! Unlike Ted Hughes it will be buckets of sunshine mate!
