It was not rocket science as to who was going to be released, a new manger was not needed to work it out. Most of the fans would have given out the same names - Wilson has been very poor and a high earner, Tesche another high earner and not worth his high wages. As for Chris Burke, his best days were at his previous clubs, we got him too late in his career. People are saying that Fryatt and Blackstock should have been released, how can we, they are under contract, if Fryatt is put up for sale no one is going to be an injured player who is not even in training. neither of them will get anywhere near the wages we are paying them elswhere.

Buy them out of their contract if poss then at least opens the door for other players to come in.

The longer players like BLACKSTOCK stay here the more we stagnate and don't progress. Agree terms and terminate his contract. Another one over the 30 mark too now.

This 'retained list' has been around for yonks but it's only in recent years that it has become common knowledge and popular talk among fans. As usual most fans have no idea what they're talking about and it's no surprise fans end up dismayed as to why we're keeping players that are under contract.

Why would Blackstock or Fryatt accept a termination when they may not get a contract elsewhere? Maybe only if we paid them off in full. But why would we pay them off in full and get nothing in return when we can keep them at the club? We're paying for them anyway! We might even get them fit and in form for a future sale, even if only on a free. Or they might even chip in with a goal or two later in the season. You're doing yourself a financial mis-chief by just writing-off contracts and bringing in new players. We do that enough with Managers already! And buying them out of contracts doesn't create any more space in the squad, we're not under embargo anymore, we can bring in as many as we like.

The best we can hope for with Fryatt is that he gets fit and contributes. And the best we can hope for with Blackstock is that someone takes him on loan for the year and they pay some of his wages.

When Nigel Clough was the manager of Sheffield United he tried to get Blackstock on loan but he did not want to drop down to Division One. He lives in Nottingham, originates from Nottingham and has family here, he will sit out his last year of his contract.

The retained list has been around for donkeys years The NEP used to publish at the end of each season in the sixties.

Yes, as I said it's been around for yonks but only in recent years is it posted on the internet for every half-witted fan to comment on with zero understanding of it. A lot of the comments on the NEP and Bird Site are particularly shocking. Some fans just need to stick to buying pints and shouting on matchday.

I guess I'm out of step again but I would have kept Tesche who has turned into a solid player for us in midfield and would not have had Paterson or Veldjwik back. Mistake to let Jack Kelly go from the Under 21's as well. Looks like FAH has made the decisions, hope he got advice from all the coaches still in residence.

Bsered

Many have said Patterson is not good enough yet he got better and better as the season wore on at Huddersfield.

The lad just needs the right manager and system to be a good Championship player.
