We are trying to assemble a potential premier league bound squad. Why did VIlla Derby and Middlesbrough fail. Was it their managers ( it is looking like two will be gone) or was it a weakness in the players ie VIlla a poor right back, Derby poor forwards etc ) why did Fulham Wolves and Cardiff get promoted? My belief is in each case was the manager so we have to trust AK is the right choice for us, and only promotion will do.

Doc m,yes l agree it,s the manager but their are a few obstacles in the way.Like injuries ,suspensions, weather etc.,I know we all want promotion but to even think of it is Taboo,it,s a thing managers want ,yes, but to start thinking of it this early,No! not yet.

With the huge turnaround in players and the large amount reportedly being spent, failure will not be an option
It will be his team,so no excuses for not being top six.
Problem is we all know it's not that easy

Am with you '51. Ff Would you consider a top ten finish to be "failure"? I certainly wouldn't!

Yes top ten would be failure if the reported money we are spending is correct.
You can only lose 39 mill over a three year period, ffp would soon become a problem.
You can't spend large amounts on players just to make the top half as that would mean spending even more ,as obviously the squad wasn't good enough to gain promotion.

From what I've read the deal is 13 million but the payments will be structured over the duration of the contract so I'm assuming a 5 year contract less than 3 million a year which with a bit of perspective is more than affordable

It isn’t about position for me. If you spend the sort of money rumoured that we will then in the championship Karanka should have players at his disposal to challenge. If we finish 12th but 4 points off play offs and we’re in promotion race right up until last few games then I would be happy, it would be a big step forward but if we finished 8th but had never been higher than that and never looked like breaking into play off places or promotion race it would be disappointing, personally I won’t think about what my expectations of this team are until the end of the transfer window but I expect us to improve on last season and that is what the manager and owner have said. The more we spend, the higher I (and I expect everyone) will expect us to finish!

If it's to be true what's being said about 50 million which I doubt it very much but if the owner is investing big money in the team this season as the 15 million for the Portuguese guys plus whoever else I would say anything but play offs would equal a crap season with a lot of clubs not being able to spend this season and we can we after make the most of the advantages and I'm guessing marankis is thinking the same to 6 finish must this season with investment simples.

Red mash your spot on. 15 million on a 5 year deal would be 3 million per year towards FFP spending.

Perks players might be paid over five years the transfer fee won't be.
What's this? Rent a player for 3 million a year??
Can't see anyway that's happening, every club would do it as a loophole.
