Why was Ronaldo not booked for playing the ball one way and running the otherside to make contact knowing he could not get the ball?

It’s not VAR that’s the problem it’s the staff employed to watch it / use it
Some are totally bottling decisions that need making
And refs not using it when they should ( too much pressure to only use it sparingly )

Other sports use video footage to review contentious decisions quite successfully so why is football struggling to make it work? Am hoping it's just down to teething problems. Very. Amateur. Refereeing.

VAR is a joke the way its operating but at least justice was done with the result although Ronaldo should have had 2 yellow cards for conning a penalty and kicking the player?

Normal circumstances and the ref got it right initially only to be told different .

They certainly need to tweet and train better with VAR. It’s a joke that FIFA decided to give it a first serious trail at a World Cup! Surely they should have used it in a few more leagues, youth competitions and domestic cups to sort rules and tweak what it is used for and how but biggest issue is that refs are using it stupidly. VAR could be good but refs need to be smarter with it and stronger too. Refs like the the one in Iran v Portugal tonight who are useless and weak just look even worse than they did before given time it will weed out weak refs maybe.

Ultimately VAR with regard to penalties depends on the decision of the ref and the VAR team. It's that choice they make which can be wrong, and not just for footballing reasons - politics comes into it too unfortunately.
