There's a good item regarding Carvalho on Seatpitch . It's written by Lee Clarke who clearly knows his stuff.

Sgetty, There are two things in that item that are at odds with me.

First, he said take his price tag out of the equation. Well no you can not do that, when you pay a certain price you expect more from them than a player you have paid a lot less for.

Second, he said that Carvalvo is going to be some player in the future, well for me for a team like Forest when we pay £13m for a player we need him to take no more than a few months before coming good, not maybe next season, or the season after.

Perhaps if the manager had the team more attack minded we would see the best of him.

If you bring in players for the future you need players that can produce now untill the players of the future are able to step up.

Wow you guys are grumpy! People are on about getting Burke back but what has he done?! He was sold for the same price as Carvalho, has done nothing in Germany, cost West Brom £15m did nothing for them and people were still talking about getting him back. Atleast Carvalho has made an impact, he’s assisted 6 goals, scored 3 and constantly moves into space opening up space for the likes of Lolley, Darikwa, cash, Robinson and Grabban.

If you notice we usually have a man over on the wings because Carvalho makes clever runs, he is involved in a lot of attacking moves, he’s not got consistency yet but he’s 21. Also let’s not forget he’s only been here for what? 6 months? 6 months in a new country, new club, new team, new league, he’s never going to shine straight away but he will get better and in a couple of years £13m will be cheap.

Well said floresta.
Good player who's getting stronger by the game.
Bot more quality around him is what's needed.

Floresta, The difference between Forest and the Germany club is they were successful and have money to burn so can easily write off 13m for Burke.

West Brom had the money from the Premier league, so again £15m does not affect their bank balance like £13m does for our club.

Some only talk of Burke coming back because of a rumour, and others because he was one of our academy players that excited us, all be it for a short while,if he came back it would only be as a loan, not £13m.

You mention new country, so, and so forth, so where is the player to produce now while he gets use to all that and to find the consistency needed by gradually giving more game time.

You see teams like Forest can not afford to do that with players that cost £13m.

Floresta, Carvalho stats do read played 26 goals scored 3 and 6 assists and he may get better in the next couple of years but its not good enough for a player with a free roll, to put it into context of a certain Barrie McKay bought for 500k, a similar age, last season who also played 26 matches but scored 7 and had 5 assists and was substituted more times because he wasn't contributing enough, I just think that on occasions AK must see that Carvalho has gone missing and the game is passing him bye and we need something different.

I can think of a good 10 games where he's gone missing when you really need to creative player to take the game, he will get better but needs to improve a lot, I think the 13m was about right for him potential wise but we didn't need potential we need here right now

So the replies I’ve read seem to sound more like a grudge than anything else, to you people there’s nothing anyone can say because you’ve made your mind up. To the people who genuinely are open minded I’d ask for patience. He will come good, he’s already started. Also McKay was a good player, he was another that went missing at times, other games he was unplayable. The problem is he lost confidence and there were rumours about his attitude. There’s a reason he was sold, and it wasn’t his playing ability.

Jc is a neat and tidy little player, nothing more and way over priced the McKay comparison is a valid one but on his day McKay as had been said could be unplayable, can’t ever imagine saying that about Jc mckays day never came often enough and was got rid of , as has also been said we can’t afford to pay 13 million for potential, that’s what our academy is for ,a club like ours spending that kind of money needs to be buying the finished article, the grudge thing is absolute nonsense, everyone on here was hoping when the Portuguese players came in they would have the ‘wolves effect, sadly our 3 aren't in the same class,

The thing is JC works a lot harder for the team closing down opponents and keeping the team shape. The Scottish lads didn’t .
Good professionals keep working for the team even when the flair part of their game is not coming off

Nobody works harder than Osborn yet he gets terrible abuse , plenty of hard workers around for a lot less money
