Next two games will define our season, two defeats and we could start to slide, hopefully this won’t happen!
Just a little thought, should we swap our fullbacks over?
CARLO.

Every team goes through a losing patch or loss of points. I can't see us getting anything at Newcastle, regardless of last seasons result and even if we do lose the next two, the season levels out during the run in so we'll be fine. Top 4? still anyones guess but to be fair if we finished 6th, as disappointing as that would be, at the ned of the day. that's called progress and we would have taken it last August in a heart beat.

Good post Targa. I've always predicted we would finish tip half of the table with European spot a bonus. This would lay a good foundation for a real push next season ( although I think Spurs and Man Utd will strengthen massively before then). It shows how far we’ve come that we are looking upwards rather than downwards. Remember, we are competing with teams such as Arsenal and Liverpool with perhaps 4 times our budget plus Man City and Chelsea with probably 10 times our budget.
Onwards and upwards uuuuuuuu reddddddsssss!

Completely agree with Targa and Stokey, Europe would be a massive bonus, would be interesting to know exactly what Nunos remit was for this season, i'm guessing avoid a relegation battle which we have already. Onwards and upwards COYR!

Just to keep things in perspective comrades, this season many on here were half expecting another relegation battle. We could be down with the Foxes instead we are up with the Gunners and the Chelsea’s! Whatever happens we will never forget the win at Anfield, beating Man U at Old Trafford, the 7 nil v Brighton, the late fight back against Villa and more. So let’s just carry on enjoying the ride and appreciate what a time this is to be a Red! ??????.

Absolutely stokey, whatever happens between now and the end of the season is irrelevant. A top ten finish would be fantastic considering the last two seasons. People tell me it's just like the Clough era all over again, a chance for European football. I don't think it's anything like then Clough and Taylor wouldn't have known too much about the European opposition back then. Today a click of a button and anyone can find out what so in so from athletico had for breakfast. Let's see what happens in the next few months.

As usual I agree with you Stokey and I'm certainly appreciating it as a fan! I feel so proud at what we have achieved as a club so far this season - in a more measured, self-confident, yet less confrontational way than the last couple of seasons.
I do wonder though what Big M expects from us in terms of finishing place this season - in comparison to Nuno and the players' aspirations/ abilities.
I have a gut feeling that a gap will appear between the two
aspirations as the season comes to an end.
To use a fairground analogy though - I'm loving the fact that Forest are at last riding the roller-coaster, as opposed to the merry go round.

I'm not being funny but if we don't make any sort of European football next season I will be pissed off. surely we've not got this far to finish outside a European place and I think the big man will be thinking the same. this will be our best chance of making European football for years mid table at the start of the season I would of been over the moon with. but to be 3rd in premier league with 13 games to go and end up out of any sort of European football will be gutting that's just how I would feel. i'm not speaking for anyone else.

It is a real possibility Skeggs, if we can manage Wood properly until the end of the season.

In financial terms European football world be beneficial, Mr M knows that and will be pushing Nuno to deliver. That's all well and good but as it was posted yesterday your looking at the thick end of 400mil for the right players. Now that's not a problem for the cheating **** in Manchester but this is forest were talking about, and the premier League would love to nail us with FFP and send us packing back to where they think we belong. Poison chalice comes to mind. it would be an adventure though.

We've got 3 very difficult games coming up in the League. Newcastle, Arsenal and City which, if we lose them, we could see ourselves down in 7th. I don't think we'll get Champions League football but we might get the Conference. Which is still a massive improvement on what we would've settled for at the beginning of the season.

Yes, I should have added the words “many on here ( except Hinge and Bracket in Skeggy”……. doesn’t it get a bit boring being right all the time lads …. ?????? ( except when you’re wrong of course …. ????)

Seriously, pre season I thought solid mid table with anything else a bonus. To be in the Champions League places with two thirds of the season exceeds my wildest hopes.
I don't know if anyone on here remembers but, at the end of last season, with safety assured, Nuno kept making inscrutable references in TV interviews with the words “ if I’m still here next season “.
We will never know what goes on behind closed doors in the corridors of power at the CG but I think Nuno laid down his conditions to Mr M. to stay on. These included a small but quality squad, his the final word on transfers, all business done early ( so, crucially, he could have a proper pre season with the bulk of his squad in place so he could drill into them his methodology and tactics) and the deadwood gone.
Equally crucially, Mr M agreed and this, to me, was the decisive point in our current journey.
Ok, it’s all speculation and maybe I’m adding 2 and 2 and making 5 but it certainly fits. Successful owners have to trust the people they hire and keep their itchy quick fix fingers away from the trigger imo.
