Understand Fawaz is renaming the Main Stand and calling it the Peter Taylor stand. This is via a tweet.

It needs a paying sponsor name not more nostalgia?
Can't pay the bills with that.

Long overdue imo!! Coyr

He should rename the East Stand as the Brian Clough & Peter Taylor Stand in honour of their equal standing in our glory years.

Renaming a clapped out wreck of a stand is an insult to Peter Taylor's memory!

Disgraceful idea

Cannock and if he pulls the plug it will have a nice new block of flats on it.nobody wanted to buy us when doughty put us up for sale and nobody will want to buy us now/can afford to buy us.

Nice gesture, for sure, and long overdue. The timing of the announcement is a bit random though - unless you're the kind of outrageous cynic who would make a spurious connection with the Dave Mackay statue unveiled at Derby yesterday. I mean what kind of a person would honour the dead for the purposes of petty one-upmanship? And as for announcing feel-good news connected to a glorious, distant past when there's no news on the incoming players who will contribute to our glorious future: get real.

Keeno

I am deadly serious. Those 2 stars on our shirts were mainly down to PT finding the players and keeping a certain ego in check. He never got the credit he deserved and having a relic named after him with the East Stand looking down over his name is an insult to his memory.

I appreciate the gesture but not what is proposed. Fawaz should reflect on Peter Taylor's contribution by renaming the East Stand in joint names in honour of the best managerial partnership in football.

When the main stand finally goes it will become a sponsor opportunity and where will Peter Taylor's memory be then?

Again so called fans who just knock club and owner. We should appreciate the gesture we are a club with no a lot of money so lve in the real world. I think it is a great gesture and if we can eventually build a new stand it could keep the name.
Wake up and realise our current situation and be realistic

It won't be commercially viable for him to rename the Clough stand again. This is a business decision as well as a nice gesture. This is aimed at being positive PR and an increase in ticket sales.

I for one, think this is a very good idea, though maybe renaming the bridgeford stand would have been more of a fitting tribute in stadium geography and geometry.

I agree that aesthetically the main stand is not that easy on the eye but that's mainly down to planning permission.

It makes me despair when I see people looking for the opportunity to carp at the owner. He has put his money into the club to a massive degree. On top of that he clearly cares for the club and the fans and although by his own admission he has made mistakes (and some big ones), his passion for football and the club is obvious. I find it incredible that he shows his respect for the clubs history by doing what many have demanded for years and named a stand after Peter Taylor and people then criticise him for it. Talk about can't win if you do, can't win if you don't!!. Uptheforest, to call for it to be knocked down and a new one built whilst we are under FFP embargo is plain insanity. However I would bet that when the opportunity to build that stand does come in better times, he will ensure Peter Taylor's name will be on that stand. To those who continue to carp, get real!

{Ed001's Note - spending on a stadium does not come under FFP, so it would have no effect on an embargo or the chances of coming out of it.}

Surely the bottom line of ffp is all about limiting the loss of a club. Spending a large amount on a new stand at the moment would surely push the losses of the club up above £15m for the year mark??? I may be wrong but I can't see how it wouldn't affect it.

{Ed001's Note - you are wrong, the spending on infrastructure is not involved in FFP. There are a number of things that are excluded, which is why Man City have managed to spend such huge sums on their training ground.}

Just a smokescreen for when all these supposed new players go missing.

Ed- whether its linked directly to ffp or the embargo doesn't really matter. Fawaz would need to get the money from somewhere,we don't appear to be able to get an external sponsor for the club so it would look like its something else to be funded by fawaz (probably in the form of a loan. Nobody else is jumping up offering investment or sponsorship, its something else that fawaz is expected to do and fund-I know that goes with the territory but there's not many on here who would give the guy any credit for that!! (or be willing to pay a bit extra to help fund it)

{Ed001's Note - I agree with what you are saying, I was just explaining to the poster that said it would affect FFP, that it is not relevant.}

Andrew/ Jurrasic,

I do not carp at our owners contribution and furthermore what has our financial situation got to do with doing the right thing with regards to the man who made Brian Clough's reputation?

I am not knocking Fawaz for wanting to honour Peter Taylor which is long overdue but he should reflect on the true value of his contribution to the most successful period of our history and give him EQUAL credit.

Naming a clapped out old stand (that should have been flattened after it caught fire )in PT's memory is not doing the guy justice?

You clearly cannot distinguish between the "Fawaz Out Brigade" and a long standing fan making constructive criticism to a flawed idea albeit with good intentions!

I am confident that Fawaz will get our club right in the end provided he consults more widely on important issues that affect the fans.

20.) 03 Sep 2015
03 Sep 2015 12:45:14
What's the point in building a new stand when we can't fill our ground anyway?if fawaz tweeted that the main stand was going to be demolished fans would moan about that.
Not sure if I'm right here but havnt the council said we can't rebuild and make that stand bigger because of the ground it's already built on can't take it.mind you that will probably be fawaz's fault as well.

Must admit I'm still surprised after all these years that we don't have a statue of Clough and Taylor at the ground (similair to the one at the sheep pen - bit peeved they did it before us) with them holding the European Cup.
