Heard last night. in a pub may I add. That Matt Derbyshire may be coming back to us for next season, he is the only one out of contract that has been asked to turn up for SP first day in the job.

Will be allowed to train with us unless he wants to move elsewhere. source was his wife/GF apparently.

I thought he deserved another year after the end of the season and with another full pre-season under his belt, he could be the 20 goal striker we have been longing for. COYR

Backward step regarding Derbyshire. More hungrier forwards out there. A few good games in 3 seasons is not a good return bearing in mind what he was earning.

{Ed034's Note - the guy looked hungry to me

Got to say he never had a real run in the team apart from pre season and then the back end of last. When he did play he came on as sub and played more in midfield rather than on the last man. Not saying there are not better strikers out there, but he did prove he knows where the back of the net is and looked like he wanted to play for us.

3.) 23 May 2014
Bit harsh on a guy that was not given a chance under Bd, even when he had a decent pre season last year. when given his chance He found the net playing a different kind of football than under BD.

4.) 23 May 2014
When he actually had a few games back to back, I must say I was impressed. He seems the type that will finish more often than not when presented with an opportunity - do not think this would be a backward step at all

5.) 23 May 2014
Two schools of thought really, firstly he was never given a real go and run in the side or secondly he was ere for a couple of seasons and showed nothing at all. personally depending on how SP is going to line up the side if he fits into how were going to play then give him a go!. I was impressed enough at the end of the season to give him another year. showed more appetite than shall we say more senior players at the club.

6.) 23 May 2014
I'd keep him for a year, Cox wouldn't have put away those chances in the last few games

7.) 23 May 2014
The guy was banging goals in and good goals at that. What more do we want? Super silly not letting him in the team after the pre season he had. He always tried and never let his chin drop even after dropping a division to go out on loan. Get him in.

8.) 23 May 2014
Big picture he had 3 years to do a job and turned up for 2 months if you do that at industry you will be sacked. Had his chance

{Ed034's Note - did he really ever have a proper chance?? I'd be happy if we gave him a year contract

9.) 23 May 2014
Deserves to stay, good player and knows how to score.

10.) 23 May 2014
Would rather use the wages to sign Callum Wilson and Assambongla, pay them £15,000 each a week and get them both on a 3 year deal, price around £2 million each plus future add ons.
Cox does not score enough and I don't rate Henderson. May be get Derbyshire in on one year as back up.

{Ed034's Note - Peterborough have already said Assamobalnga would cost silly money, so we have no hope of getting him for £2m

11.) 23 May 2014
Get rid let's move on!

12.) 23 May 2014
Keep Derbyshire over Cox and Henderson any day

13.) 23 May 2014
Derbyshire scored good quality goals in a depleted team, imagine what he'd be like with a full strength midfield supporting him! He always had a good professional attitude and is a smart player. When given a chance and regular games he never let himself down. He is more than worth a 1 year deal.

14.) 23 May 2014
If this rumour is true then full marks to SP for keeping his options open while he sorts his strike force out. If he gets the blend right then Derbyshire will get us 15+ goals a season for sensible wages and no fee.
We are not going to sign Assombalonga as he cost Posh £1.5m and they need to turnover a £5m sale deal a season to survive.

15.) 23 May 2014
Wow that's a lot of comments to a pub rumour, hope its true though

16.) 23 May 2014
Never given a chance properly under bd, but when given a go scored goals and by far and away looked the best centre forward. Definitely worth another year

17.) 23 May 2014
Yeah it was a long conversation in the pub …. some for him & some against very much like on here.

I do think BD broke Cox and with a good pre season under his belt with SP. He could be a valued member of the team next season

Derbyshire just needs a good run in the team, he'll score goals if he get's game's, but he'll move on and come good at an other club I come back and hunt us

19.) 24 May 2014
It all depends who SP is planning on bringing in. If we don't sign a striker then we need to keep him as he's the best we've got. However if we get a couple of quality strikers in, he becomes the same inconsistent fringe player and we already have strikers under contract who can play that role.

20.) 24 May 2014
No guarantee that Wilson or Assombalonga (nor anyone else we're linked with) will get 20 goals a season for us. I think unless Derbyshire goes elsewhere then I think SP will see how he is in Pre-Season before making mind up

21.) 24 May 2014
He is the most natural goal scorer in our squad. Would like him, Cox and a new signing as our top 3 strikers.

22.) 24 May 2014
I think it all depends on money, was he worth the £14k a week he was supposedly on for his whole 3 years, no is the simple answer. would sign him on again but not for the money he was previously on

23.) 24 May 2014
I'm all for keeping Derbyshire. Look how he handled hi chance when it came. Djebbour should've been given a chance earlier too. Attitude in the changing room required intervention by the manager not exclusion from the team (necessarily). The manager needs to manage and I don't think that's been happening at the club for about 4 months.
