Read Graham Nash’s book “Wild Tales” a few months again, pretty incredible stories about David Crosby. Heavy drug user, had a new liver and did a prison term ( in the US which is proper prison) for supplying drugs and carrying a loaded firearm. Immensely talented man, suffered from drug induced paranoia but lived into his 80’s. Talk about sex and drugs and rock n roll, complete hedonist. What a life, what a man, what a legend. Forget healthy living folks, that’s the way to go!
I’m reminded of Dave Allen’s great comment that he’d read that 20% of Road accidents are caused by drunk drivers……. Which meant that 80% are not, therefore his conclusion (said with his inimitable slurry voice) was that sober people should stay off the road and let us drunks drive in safety! ????.

Yea that's a great idea let's celebrate the life of a junkie, drug peddling, gun wielding jail bird loser.
I don't call that talent . Some guy strumming a few basic chords on an acoustic. Just looked up his songs marakesh express which was garbage and 19 others I've never heard of.
If you want to celebrate song writers try Lennon and Mcartney. Or a great musicain try Garry Moore. Masters of there trade. ?.

Remember back in the late 80s seeing the Hollies at the Commodore and they announced a surprise and Graham Nash came on and did a few songs brill night shame Crosby and Still wasn't with him.

The music that appeals to me has always been produced by what I think are real people, who have their flaws like the rest of us.

I sometimes think the so called "flaws" are the basis of their genius!

Maybe that's true of some footballers.

I think when we are witness to something different and special, you know it.

It could be Hendrix or Best, or maybe Robbo, but you know.

By the way.

I've changed the alarm on my phone to the "hokey cokey" it took me 2 f#£%^;g hours to get out of bed this morning.

Happy birthday Robbo!

And happy new year to all of you!

Balloons, mate, my comments on David Crosby were meant to be “tongue in cheek “ hence the juxtapositioning of Dave Allen’s quip. Of course, I wouldn’t recommend his life style to anybody nor drink driving. I’ve been to too many fatal road accidents and delivered too many alcohol related death messages to grieving loved ones for that.

Having said that DC never killed anybody, did his time and paid his taxes. His talent was immense and despite his human failings I love his music.
There is a long line of artists of genius who, as people, are or were dreadful. Look at Caravaggio, Marlowe, Sir Thomas Malory, Wagner, Eric Gill. John Lennon admitted a long history of violence against women and our own Sir Brian Clough could be, on a bad day, be called an alcoholic bully with a penchant for violence ( according to Roy Keane and the pitch invading lad in the QPR game).

However I prefer to remember him as a charismatic football genius and likewise I prefer to remember Sir Thomas Malory as the author of “Morte D’Arthur “ rather than the rapist, kidnapper, thief and prison escaper who died in Newgate Prison. Likewise John Lennon for “Working Class Hero” “Imagine” etc.

As a footnote I’d say the vast majority of people I put behind bars during my Police Career were not intrinsically evil but had made mistakes in life, sometimes quite small mistakes, which led to big consequences. Perhaps it’s the same with rock stars, footballers, artists and all the rest of us flawed humans.

Not sure that drink driving is the funniest subject or one that should be laughed at-ruined too many lives and a bit too close to many hearts to be laughed at for me.

I agree about the most talented people being close to the edge in many ways though-pretty much every subject you can think of, sport, music, acting, arts, sciences etc.

I was actually clapping to your dave allen stokey. That lad was pure genius taken on the Catholic methods etc from Ireland. More rock n roll wrong doings in politics than music. But in music they brag about it. In politics comes the silence.

Bowie, in takes of rock n roll excess, I ve always liked Liam Gallagher s comments after he made his fortune. He told an interviewer that he s bought a big house in the hills above Hollywood with a pool and a top of the range beast of a Maserati. Which was strange, he thought “, because I spend most of my time in the UK and I can’t swim or drive”! ????.
