One of my regrets that I never had the opportunity to see ZZ Top live. Always thought they looked and sounded like a fun, entertaining Texas band with great tunes and subtle lyrics …. they were much more subversive behind the MTV glitz

Got them on my list to watch RRH and Ed1. Alan Ritchson at least looks as though he could kill you with his bare hands unlike the diminutive Tom Cruise. Like Daniel Craig’s Bond.
It’s appropriate that the books are by Lee Child as they read like they were written by one. ………..

Ed 1 the ones I’ve read are more like basic plot line sketches like a film script, little description, one dimensional characters etc.
But great marketing and Child is a multi millionaire so good for him!

{Ed001's Note - probably why they work so well for turning into films and TV shows in that case. Good luck to him, if everything was high art, very few people would read it. You need to have different kinds of literature so all can enjoy it. Personally, I read very little fiction, mostly only the Warhammer stuff, which you lot in Nottingham should know very well as it originated there.}

Have to say, as Ed said, its not the most elegant of plot lines, very predictable even. But thats not what makes it entertaining, Alan Ritchson is absolutely brilliant in the role. Love his short, dry sense of humour. Honestly find myself laughing more at this than any modern comedy. 🌳

I agree entirely Ed 1. Any reading is good reading imo. Good luck to Mr Child. Everybody to their own. As a kid I loved the Biggles books ( a gift there for the Chuckle Brothers I know)….😂😂😂

I grew up with Monty Python, the Goodies and Forest! I suffered on nights out as DJs played 'The Funky Gibbon' and even attended an away match where the home fans sang along to it. (Can't remember where).

I always remember Bill Oddie, with his mutton chops and blooming big kitten!

I always preferred his wildlife programmes too, RRH. He was always a bit grumpy, but Kate Humble was very good with him. And, very, very gorgeous.
The Goodies were quite funny, but I always preferred Monty Python tbh.

Just to keep things in perspective, today is the 110th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme. On this date, in one day, the British Army suffered over 57, 000 casualties, of which 19, 250 were killed.

It remains the largest loss of life suffered in one day.
The battle dragged on for another 8 months with around a million casualties on both sides for little or no gain
RIP.

Yes and no Cyclist. Certainly to the stupidity of the Senior Command Officers at General Staff Level on all sides. They'd started to learn the lessons by the last year of the War by which time it was too late for millions. So, use of tanks, aircraft, mobile storm troopers, creeping barrages, no massed frontal attacks etc
The Junior Officers below the General Staff level, say Lieutenants, Captains, platoon and section commanders were disproportionately targeted and killed in huge numbers.

They led from the front and were ( until later in the war) dressed and armed differently and killed by snipers and small arms fire.
The flower of the British Officer class were lost, particularly in Battles like the Somme a mainly British attack and a particular symbol of pointless tragedy

The officers tactics/orders have nothing to do with the memory of the fallen. Its the fallen we remember, brave souls who stood for our country and ideals. The same country that many here are happy to slag off. Clearly easy to forget its our parents, grandparents and great grandparents who stood and fought so bravely to defend those ideals. 🌳

Rubbish Skegs. Our country has many faults but it's still one of life's golden winning lottery numbers to be born here.
If you are dissatisfied, like I said, you should either get your arse off your recliner and do something ( even in a small way) to improve things as per Lego's efforts with his veterans or bugger off abroad somewhere.

Yeah, it's a 7 part series, not as good as the film, but definitely worth a watch. Yahya Abdul-Mateen plays the part of Creasy well. He's also the spitting image of Spurs' Kevin Danso, build, beard, the lot. 🌳

That 'The Smashing Machine' is well worth a watch. Johnson is superb in it. 🌳

Its entertaining, not the best but very watchable. i'm waiting for 'Bloodaxe', from the creators of 'Vikings' which by the way, is the greatest TV show that has ever been made imo. 'Vikings Valhalla' isn't bad either. 🌳
