From what i can gather vrentros is considering his position trentside. A chap from the bundesliga is in the frame to replace. Surely this would be welcomed by most on here. Hughton has made it clear that attacking issues are a top priority. He has looked at this squad and i bet even the ones on loan like mcguanne and realised they will not make the step up. Given hughtons past record you have to trust that he will make positive strides and in the not too distant past his teams have scored plenty of goals.
Our strikers and so called attacking mids are just not good enough, particularly Grabban. He came here injured and has never shaken off these issues. Yeah he scored 20 last term but none when it mattered, some say he could and should have scored thirty, well he didn't and there lies the problem. Worst pen taker and even one he scored this season only went in because he he fell over and fooled the keeper. Hughton has shown faith in his inherited skipper but think Grabban will be gone and younger blood brought in. You could never say grabban did not try to score but he wasted so many chances and when the option to play in a team mate arose he greedily tried the impossible.
I know many on here want rid of hughton calling his football archaic and dinasaur quality. I get that. But given the general rubbish and crocks he inherited then it would be foolish to change now. One full season to rinse out the deadwood and titivate the team with better attacking quality is the best option. Even if we finished outside the play off places next year rest assured the squad will be trimmer, better and we will have a better platform to replace hughton with the younger dynamique manager we crave. I doubt the football will be as bad as this year as it will be freshened up but its crucial we do not twist as we have a man of nowse as our coach.

Team Cohesion, and Team Progression each season is all i ask, anything better is a bonus.

2.) 08 May 2021 21:11:19
Rutland hughton will be gone before next season ends.
Hes working for marinakis and if he can't get us promotion next season, or he's struggling with results?, which he will.
Then they will sack hi.
Id get rid right now as he only has six months left on his contract
Its interesting they haven't offered him a contract extension thank god.

3.) 09 May 2021 15:56:54
Good post.

According to john percy forest have lost appeal regarding Grosiki.

rutland red 7

1.) 29 Oct 2020 12:11:43
Not fussed he didn’t want to join us in the first place, would prefer us to go for Ronan Curtis fromPortsmouth in January a lot better long term prospect.

2.) 29 Oct 2020 14:10:44
Why would he sign if he didn't want to. That is complete nonsense.

I'm glad he hasn't signed as he would be blocking younger players progressing into the first team.

3.) 29 Oct 2020 17:44:48
Ref he could of come here long before but said he was not interested, and then went to West Brom only when he found out that he wasnt in WBA plans did he then consider a deal with us, wether he was haggling for more money or not we won’t find out but I think there are better options out there. Mighten is not quite ready and needs to be loaned out for regular games like Johnson.

25 Oct 2020 12:50:09
Looks like Grabban, after holding talks with the club, is staying at Forest. He is probably carrying an injury hence his dismal form and endeavour. Think he plays injured most days.

rutland red 7

1.) 25 Oct 2020 14:43:13
If you are right about his injury then that shows he should have been dropped a while back.

2.) 25 Oct 2020 16:04:08
I’m hoping with Knockaerts addition Grabbon will come good as will Taylor.

3.) 26 Oct 2020 09:05:33
So Grabban has a hip injury that's why he's been rubbish but how long as he had this injury he has only scored in two games in open play with no assists out of his last 25 games going back to the end of January, In the same period our out of form winger Joe Lolley as scored in four games and assisted in four games, its a stat that shows just how poor Grabban has been for months.

4.) 26 Oct 2020 09:25:44
Sorry Grabban has one assist.

5.) 26 Oct 2020 16:31:01
Shows how short we have been upfront that Grabban started despite his lack of form. And if he has been injured then it is pretty desperate. I hope we can get Grosicki over the line but we may still struggle for goals.

6.) 26 Oct 2020 17:03:50
Why was Walker, then Taylor not given a chance, not so much being short more unwilling to give others a chance to shine.

7.) 29 Oct 2020 10:24:25
Hip injury? Someone with a wooden leg could have scored that sitter the other week! Lol.

Eds, why are we not allowed to discuss anything about taking the knee on here? It should be up for debate, freedom of speech etc. Football is going to get blown apart at the euros and once the EFL resumes the players are in for stark awakening. Every man and his dog is against racism, particularly in football but the political symbolism of the knee is turning the public and fans against the players and managers who endorse this. We have the right to object just like they have the right to make crasse decisions.

rutland red 7

{Ed033's Note - i guess, go to our conspiracy site if you want to discuss this.

1.) 12 Jun 2021 16:12:23
Rutland you should know free speech only works one way in this country, to me taking the knee is offensive to football fans, as it appears to assume we’re all racists,

2.) 12 Jun 2021 16:31:10
Well i live in the north east, everytime i see someone on one knee i think yup, claiming benefits 😏.

31 May 2021 03:04:46
We talk a lot about good managers and the football style. Well what makes a good manager? Good players, simples. Mourhino and pep for example only managed big clubs with good players, big budgets. I don't care how good a manager may be on paper he is on a day to day without good players. You get lucky managers who inherit a decent team tweak a little and their managerial qualities flourish, leeds, norwich, brentford, wolves have all got so called worldy managers but the players at the clubs were good. Our problem is glaringly obvious. We simply have very little star quality and little in the making. Basically the foundations are weak, very weak. We have brought in players that no other club wants, some have done ok like PK, and christie, but are they the committed dyed in the wool mainstay of a good team? I hear we are interested in Asombalonga. Why?
This is the sort of player we should avoid. Not just for his dimminishing influence due to his injury but listen to warnock. " asombalonga is not the future and can leave "
If boro don't want him their is very good reason, they don't want a fee and they have not even offered him reduced terms. In other words they don't rate or want him at any cost. Tells you something. Hughton could well be a good manager and we need calm careful selection this summer. We might not get enough to challenge top six but it needs to be very selective. The youth needs integration too and not selling. See if these lads can step up. I would rather give them a go than bring in more bargain basement castoffs. With rumours that krovinivic is being touted to return indicates that we are shopping in the market stalls again, PK made an impact in his first few games but increasingly he became out foxed out punched and bundled out of the games and he had little to no end product. let's hope its a rumour and that tge focus behind the scenes is on quality and thst the work on this started months ago!

rutland red 7

1.) 31 May 2021 08:17:47
Boro don't want him because of his wages, he was bought in with parachute money hoping for a quick return, now they can no longer afford his 40k a week.
No doubt he will have to expect less a week as no one in the championship can afford 40k a week, so on a free transfer and on the right wages would be a good signing.

2.) 31 May 2021 08:37:55
When Mourinho was at Porto his team beat Fergusons Man Utd team having spent a fraction of the money that Ferguson had.

I do not want Baracus either.

3.) 31 May 2021 08:47:49
Porto were already a good team. I knew thay isdue would come up. And ferguson was under pressure at utd in his first 4 years. They were crap with dour football. Mark Robins gave him a stay of execution whilst fergie delved into the youth team etc.

4.) 31 May 2021 09:04:38
Ff79 britt is a free agent. So 47 goals in 159 matches not a good return on £15mil and £40k per week. They did not even offer him a deal, that's how highly they rate him. Would he have taken £10-15k per week, as that is all he might be worth to stay at Boro? No one will pay more thsn that for his services. I still maintain he is not the player we should be looking to. a striker when not scoring adds little else we have that in Grabban. Ched evans displayed what championship strikers should offer when not scoring. Lessons should be learned.

5.) 31 May 2021 09:26:47
I would have him, as I think there's 3 good years left in him.15 grand a week, makes sense to me if it happened.

6.) 31 May 2021 09:33:20
When Porto beat Man Utd it was Fergusons 100th game in the Champions league. 🤣🤣🤣.

7.) 31 May 2021 09:45:31
4 years?, now some are lucky to get 4 months.

8.) 31 May 2021 09:52:13
So Rutland are you saying that Porto under Mourinho had already a team of expensive superstars and all he had to do was show up to training to get them to beat Fergusons Utd.?

9.) 31 May 2021 10:08:16
GF no they were good players. That is my point simple.

10.) 31 May 2021 11:01:24
Rutland before managing Porto he managed a club called Leiria and in twenty three matches averaged 1.91 points per game.

11.) 31 May 2021 11:23:48
Britt is definitely worth getting on a free. Far better than what we have.

Sometimes teams let players go because they have plans for players they have and want a certain wage bill. If you don't rate Britt then you must think our players are complete sh1te!

12.) 31 May 2021 11:49:09
He has played for us before, we already have too many on high wages, no way will he drop from £40,000 a week to less than £30,000 a week.

The team needs someone that has pace, that links up play, and scores often enough that when added to other players goals we are going to be feared.

The team also needs a energetic forward with pace that pull players out of position.

I do not think he meets either of those scenarios.

13.) 31 May 2021 13:18:39
We need a "Fox In The Box". he fits the bill.

14.) 31 May 2021 14:58:46
That does suit the managers system Rogie.

15.) 31 May 2021 17:50:39
I actually do think our players are sh#te and don't rate btitt. Each to there own. Worrall let's face it is half decent. But shines because the rest are sh#te.

16.) 31 May 2021 20:13:41
Assombalonga isn't going to be on any wages from June. He will just have to take what is the best deal he can negotiate as he will be out of contract. Yes, Britt has played for us before and was very successful.

He would, without a shadow of doubt, do better than the players we have if he is fit and firing and comes back.

I think they will try to sign Britt or Wyke (or a similar proven goal scorer with experience) and another younger player for strikers. If they don't then I'll be surprised.

17.) 31 May 2021 20:37:37
I feel you are being naive RedCyclist.

You come across as only a couple of clubs will be interested in him and he will feel cornered and accept less than half of his current wages for fear of not getting a team otherwise.

There will be several clubs interested in him, he and his agent will work one against the other until he is too expensive for the likes of Forest.

18.) 31 May 2021 21:33:27
Britt is no fox in the box. Grabban was. He is lazy too. And warnock could not trust him. He is just another player which ever way you wrap it. Boro do not want him so why should we?
1 in 3.4 games? Not good enough and has the attitude of grabban.

19.) 01 Jun 2021 08:56:32
I'm not being naive. Proven goal-scorers are not cheap. He won't get the wages he was on before. Ones who don't need a fee are cheaper than proven goal-scorers who are free agents. That is obvious.

As for Assombalonga's goal ratio, it is better than every player in our squad apart from Mighten.

Naive is to think we can afford a better, proven goal-scorer, for a fee, who has also scored more often at the level Assombalonga has. Reality check.

If I'm right and we are going for a proven player at this level AND a younger player then we have to go for players similar to Assombalonga or go back to signing risky foreign players or old codgers. Most of us have already decided we have tried the latter and it doesn't work.

Naively: "We could sign a top, world-beating Premier league player on really low wages. " Except that is not possible!

20.) 01 Jun 2021 09:29:07
That is where you are being naive, a free agents agent will say to a club, you are not having to pay a club a fee for my player so i want either a signing on fee as well as his normal wages, or i want his wages to be higher than normal.

Even if you take the c.v. into account and he would drop down to £30,000 from £40,000 plus a signing on fee that is too expensive for Nottingham Forest.

You say Mighten has a better goal ratio, how much will Mightens wages be yet he has a better goal ratio that hurts your argument, we may aswell get a bit younger player and give him time.

21.) 01 Jun 2021 09:59:19
Reading through yesterday's comments, some good valid points made on both sides of the discussion. A fit in form Britt would be an good asset, an injury prone Britt certainly would not, his wages would be better off spent elsewhere. Also, our main problem is creating chances, Britt would of looked as bad as Grabban if he was in last seasons team.

22.) 01 Jun 2021 10:38:46
We can't not sign anyone because they would have looked bad last season. That would be silly.

23.) 01 Jun 2021 10:59:13
RedCyclist their point is it is more important to bring in creative players so the strikers would be getting much better service.

24 May 2021 14:47:04
I wonder if Andy Caroll at 32 would fancy a pay as youbplay contract at Forest. The sort of no nonesense get at them centre forward we need. The way we play getting the ball wide we need the likes of him getting on the end of them, not the man with the upside down head grabnone😂😂😂.

rutland red 7

1.) 24 May 2021 15:04:12
If he agreed to a pay as you play contract he might get a couple of months wages 🤣🤣🤣🤣.

He is sort of player that is out for three months if he has a hang nail.

2.) 24 May 2021 15:50:37
Seriously mate?
Then again, he probably would fit into our pattern of play. he's as slow as a wet weekend!

3.) 24 May 2021 16:06:50
the no 9 at sunderland wyke i think his name is would do a better job. the same build as caroll but younger and fitter.

4.) 24 May 2021 17:00:31
Andy Carrol. would rather have Andi Peters!

5.) 24 May 2021 18:17:36
Well what's the point of wingers when grabnone can't even head a ball. Heres a question and its a serious one. Other than a goal line header at blackburn can anybody claim to have seen Grabban EVER head a ball
When he gets it he generally goes on a sideways run and has no ability to get in the box with the ball. Hence i mention a player like Carol. Someone with ariel power and a good left foot. If not carol then his type.

6.) 24 May 2021 19:26:06
What about Ronnie Carrol?

22 May 2021 10:55:39
Strange that some on here think the likes of samba, cafu, yates, mighten, lolley, Grabban, Taylor will form part of the nucleous of the team for next season. None of these players are going to take this team to the next level. We had a poor season for one good reason, players not good enough. I would include worrall in that too. Both he and yates have the desire and passion but for me yates no end product and worrall gets done in the air too easy and can't carry the ball out.
Whether mckenna and worral would perform better with steady keeper, who knows. But Samba is just another liability for me and gives the defence heart attacks.
Sadly we might have to retain the services of said players as its going to take time to reduce the squad size and identify quality players to rejuvinate the club.
When watching the likes of preston, wycombe and luton just for example, the players, largely unknowns, look stronger, leaner, quicker and very much more organised. Why can't we find this sort of player. No disrespect to riberio, taylor, Grabban, cafu etc but they offer little and are easily brushed off the ball go to ground and are utter crap in the air. How much influence hughton has in this department God knows. But I think hughton deserves the chance to bring in some better players to prove a point. Maybe CH is a spent force and maybe we need a coach who is a bit more upbeat. However the consistant is no manager could get this shower playing expansive football or scoring more goals. Maybe the manager is not good enough but most certainly, through years of bargain basement purchases, the players aren't either.

rutland red 7

1.) 22 May 2021 11:52:46
Mighten is a young player so is still learning, i have read often enough be it football players from top clubs, including Liverpool, and managers that say he is a special player, that tells me he needs to play more often so he can learn quicker, and off course better coaching.

The club tends to bring in players that are more interested in picking up a pay cheque than improving the team which is bad recruitment.

A manager with Hughton's experience should get the players to do the basics right he has however after almost a whole season in charge was unable to improve the players in the basics, why.?

Part of a managers job is to motivate players, Hughton has failed to do that, why.?

Hughton's record had me believing he would get the losses into draws, and draws into wins as the season wore on, that did not happen, why.?

If a manager had not got Hughton's record you would not be saying he deserves another chance when his win ratio is among the poorest of the managers we have had since Clough left.

2.) 22 May 2021 12:34:09
It all stems back to the shower of she*p brought in money mate. But apart from garner he just added to it. didn't he say himself at one point the style of football has to change. I'm still anxiously waiting to see who stays and goes. This should give us an idea of the budget he will have. But as iv'e said for a long time now, whos actually doing the coaching, set pieces etc were pathetic last season. The back 4 and keeper. How many school boy errors were there. Weve all just got to be patient as we know he's going to be there full stop. Pointless shouting for his head 3 games in. Just ends up in the dressing room.

21 May 2021 12:55:02
With dreamteam asking the question about naming a striker from the lower leagues it begs the question of the value of an academy.
With Wes retiring from Leicester it reminded me of where he came from. The parks in Nottingham I understand. What a player he turned out to be, reaching the summit of English football. Do academies develop the right type of players, particularly ours. My mind always thinks PUSHY PARENTS and priviledged boys when i hear tye word academy. Would these boys be better off developing their characters and desire to play football in Sunday streets leagues and then on to village and town football. Players like Vardy came through that era.
Good young players will get scouted and recognised if the clubs have good community laison officers and a network of spies. Yes we have raised money through the academy but those that have have not gone on to great things, have largely disappeared. Cash could be the exception but its early days yet. I feel that at academy level they play meaningless football and would rather see them acheiving something before being pampered in a sterile environment.

1.) 21 May 2021 13:25:49
Another thing to mention rutters, i say this on the reason he gave up. Is the amount of OTT bullying that goes on with the academys. there's a difference between pushing to reach your best mate. i think raw talent nearly always succeeds.

2.) 21 May 2021 13:13:07
Like it rutters, my youngest played for Newcastle youth as i mentioned a while ago. But gave up. they recently called him back to do some youth coaching. Which he does on a weekend. Now heres the strange thing, guess who pays him. Chelsea 🤔 i was asking him the other day how they got on. He was saying there's always one that stands out head and shoulders from the rest. Looking back on the greats. George best etc as you say naturally talented. Then you look at passback for us. Who teaches him so negative football. Btw my son does mostly goalkeeping coaching.

Perko lol sometimes he did quite well just poncing around looking a little tidy. But when you wear gloves when there's a nip in the air and your meant to be gritty midfielder, you have to be special. Average with NO end product, we need much much better players.

Interesting points particularly about Arter. Christie has grown really well and would like him perm. Worrall mckenna should be a great pairing if mckenna can stay fit. Samba not good enough sorry, too much of a prat. Lolley has issues that i doubt he can overcome. Grabban? Just can't see us starting a new season with his type, offers zero in the air and goes too wide and too deep. We have all seen enough of poor personal performances, and very little collective cohesion. If Hughton stays, which is not nailed on yet, i year contract, then the playing staff has not got the nucleous to take the club forward. Their has to be changes. Not what we want but what we need. This team has been hard to watch and for me that's not down to hughton.

No bowie, the double standards and hypocrisy is sickening. Some of these players expect us to respect whilst they behave like hooligans. Breaking c.v. protocol for a selfish party or other jaunts, putting lives at risk. I don't think so. I rather think of COUNTRY in terms of brave soldiers not this bunch of over hyped millionaires with twisted ideas of equality and respect.
